How effective are online press releases for SEO purposes?
-
As part of a SEO program for a small business, how effective are optimized, online press releases?
-
A service like pr web is very good for well written and targeted releases. It's ability to target specific journalists and niches can mean you get decent secondary coverage on niche sites e.g the last pr I wrote got covered by a local news site. Links on many pr sites themselves are worth next to nothing as google must have them on their panda/penguin radar.

Doug- Its kind of like getting dressed up for a big party. Someone could ask you how important is it to wear a nice shirt? The answer is it is important; but so is fixing your hair; your shoes; brushing your teeth etc...Optimized online press releases are an effective part of your overall strategy if you have interesting stuff to release.
If you do online releases, to optimize make sure that you do several important things:
- Anchor text links (3 are recommended). Make sure they link back to your product or solution page, to your blog post which will mention the release and of course your home page.
- Make sure you have images. Pictures and videos can DRAMATICALLY INCREASE your CTR. In the images make sure you have alt-tags....
- Make sure your title of the release is keyword optimized. And make sure you have your money keywords in your descrioption tag (meta tag).
- URL string-make sure your keyword is in there. All of the online PR companies do something different, so make sure you include it.
Good luck. Hope this helps.

I'd say they can still be fairly effective for SEO. However, in a post-Panda environment you'll need to be pretty careful on the distribution. Quite a few press release distribution services got Pandalized rather badly.

Does a "Read More" button to open up the full content affect SEO?
As we've been refining our metrics for gauging whether or not a blog is effective -- if people are engaging with it -- one of the strategies we've seen (e.g. NYT, WaPo, Yahoo!) is "Read More." I've read a few articles with some who advocate using it and others who discourage it. Does anyone have any history adding "Read More" to their content and the effect it had?

Is this good Blog SEO Exposure Practice?
When I create a new blog post for my site www.piolettilaw.com/blog in an effort to make sure it is seen by the most people the quickest I do the following: (1) link it to my google+ account https://plus.google.com/b/115145499443620475217/+PiolettiPiolettiAttorneysatLawEureka/posts (2) I then link it in virtually the same way on facebook (3) I ping it my blog directory piolettilaw.com/blog using ping-o-matic Is that a pretty good gameplan to follow when making new blog posts? Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions would be very welcomed. Thanks in advance, Joe

I work on a uk decorating website with five of our own bloggers all of which reside on the home page of the website on their own separete blogging urls as sub domains - is this a good idea or would google not like this from an seo point of view?
Should blogs that are part of an overall content site be on separate sites and link in or is it ok to promote them as content on the home page of the site and take users off to their own url to view the site. Is this good practise for seo?

Online Publisher networks (Splash Press) Question
Hi, If you can get into a network as a writer it's great because you can expose your brand on high auth websites without the hassle of having to build a relationship with each site - once your in, your into all the websites on the network. So question is, isn't this going to be bad for SEO, I assume all the websites are on the same server and I have seen some where they interlink in the network. Apart from that though they look really great, good fresh content, high DA/PA, lots of social activity etc. A couple I have come across are: Splash Press & Alloy Digital (If you know of any more please post them up).

Is my SEO guy bad news?
Hi All... I have had an SEO guy doing some work for us (link building etc) over the past few months. In the last week or two, I have been receiving emails from a few website owners complaining that our SEO guy has been spamming their sites (either through blog comments or forums posts etc). Now, to clarify, it's not spam as in "come and buy our awesome product" - it is spam as in he makes (for example) blog post comments that are relevant to the topic, that sometimes don't make perfect sense (due to his english skills). So, they do seem perhaps, extra spammy... (it is all hand written... not an automated scripts) My questions Im not out to do the wrong thing, so, is this approach bad news? Apart from annoying people, are there are other downsides? If I were to pre-write him comments/posts that actually made perfect sense, would that be a better approach? I don't want to annoy people, and I don't want to do the wrong thing, and I don't want our rankings to be effected, so... what is the consensus?

Potential effects of PLR articles
I'm sitting on several hundred PLR articles that, with a bit of editing, would fit well into on of my sites. This site otherwise produces new unique content every week, including videos, news and articles. These PLR articles are very popular, copyscape shows at least 30 other sites are using some or all of the pieces, but the articles themselves are the sort of information pieces that don't really get old or change over time. Never having gone for the direct use of PLR articles (have spun quite a few unique pieces in my time though), I'm wondering if there could be a negative effect to using them? We're not in Google News or anything so don't have to worry about that, just wondering if it would diminish the effect of my unique pieces at all?
