I work on a uk decorating website with five of our own bloggers all of which reside on the home page of the website on their own separete blogging urls as sub domains - is this a good idea or would google not like this from an seo point of view?

Should blogs that are part of an overall content site be on separate sites and link in or is it ok to promote them as content on the home page of the site and take users off to their own url to view the site. Is this good practise for seo?

When questions like this pop up I feel its best to reference Rand's intro to SEO slideshare (http://www.slideshare.net/randfish/introduction-to-seo-5003433) specifically slides 40-47 which cover site structure.
Separate sub-domains are often viewed as separate sites so you are now building separate value identities instead of one. If it's important to you to give them all a separate blog rather than a central one with multiple authors, then you can still achieve this by simply giving them separate sub-directories.
Sub-domains will not pass value the same way, and will be focused on different content and not associated with the main site.
Back when we had popular sub-domain hosting services like Lycos this is what seperated sitea.lycos.com from siteb.lycos.com and the same sort of thing would happen to your blogs.
If you want them to self promote and the SEO value and content association of the mainsite to flow down to them (and theirs to flow back up) structure it as www.yoursite.com/blog/author1 for each author and you'll be good to go!

Featured Snippet - URL change?
Hi all - we have a blog post that has ranked as a featured snippet. We are doing some cleanup on our back-end opening up a few other blog post categories which would change the URL address by one word. I'm wondering if anyone knows how this would effect the ranking of the featured snippet if we were to change this address even if we did a redirect?

2 blogs and authorship
Hi all, I run a blog from my WP site, and also a seperate one on blogger.com which has authorship linked to it. I'm noticing that if I put up a WP blog (from my site) on my G+, this will pop up on listings presented the same as the authorship (image shown). My question is, although I make sure that I do not duplicate content between the two blogs, will this kind of mixing up of things (incorporating G+) actually be counter-productive? Thanks in advance.... tom

Driving Website Traffic
How much does organic traffic make up of your overall traffic? I have typically been driving my traffic through social channels and trying to get a feeling for how much of my traffic I should expect through SEO over time. For my blog www.shoottokyo.com I promote it through Google+, Facebook, and Tweeter. I also 'distribute' it through Feedburner, Google Currents, Feedly and a Newsletter. There isn't one way to promote but rather target actions through multiple channels. Google+: 1,500,000+ have me in circles Facebook: 3,000+ friends, fans and followers Twitter: 2,700+ followers Feedburner: 2,300+ subscribers Google Currents: 36,000+ subscribers Feedly: 1,000+ subscribers My newsletter: 2,900 subscribers Each of these are good sources of traffic. Are there others you would recommend considering? How much guest posting do you typically do?

Benefits put my blog inside website or outside the website
Hi everyone, I wonder if you can provide some information regarding inside or outside blogs benefits. One of us thinks that the blog should be within our website URL. And the other one thinks that it should be a separate url. I believe an outside blog will provide SEO benefits but we hope that you will provide us your thoughts on this issue? Thanks for all of your help. Antonio

Blogs: Hosted vs. Off-Site
What is the latest opinion on whether to have a blog hosting on your primary domain or on an outside domain (either Wordpress or just another URL). In the past we have done the former and it's been a great source of fresh content and organic traffic. Wonder if there is good argument now for not having it on the domain. With this new site we're working on it logistically would be more challenging given their tech resources, plus they already have thousands of pages.
