Adding another keyword phrase to home page.
-
I finally reached the #1 ranking for my websites main keyword phrase.
There are two more equally good keyword phrases that have my main two keywords plus one additional page. Can I shoot for both of those or should I limit it to just adding one more keyword phrase for a max of two?
For Example. I rank #1 for Horse Buggies (our domain is the main two keywords)
(Example) The other two equally good phrases with a little more traffic are Horse Large Buggies (I rank #29)and Horse Giant Buggies. (#46)
What is the best way to start ranking for those terms....without saturating or cannabolizing my current terms? We are about to change the URL's on some of our pages...so maybe I could add Large and Giant to the URL.
Any suggestions? I sure would like to capture the other two keyword phrases.
#1 URL additions? ( I think this would just rank me higher for the new pages)
#2 Would getting new links with those two new keyword phrases in the alt text help or is that black hat?
#3 Adding more of those keyword phrases to my home page?
Thank you,
Boo

Yea...but all the three keyword phrases in my case really mean the exact same thing and will attract the exact same audience. They are synonyms.
A better example I should have used is:(probably still not the best)
So if I ranked #1 for Car Dealers and wanted to add the following that had equal traffic.
Car Auto Dealers
Car Vehicle Dealers
Could I add those two terms to the same page?

Hi Boo,
First of all, congrats on getting that number one ranking!
Now, onto your question...
I would suggest creating another page targeted specifically to large and giant horse buggies. I'm sure that you could create a targeted and awesome page for these keywords that would really benefit folks looking for larger buggies.
My guess is that if you try to target these phrases on your homepage that you'll just be doing too much. It won't look great to users, it will be hard to send enough signals to the search engines (that's a lot of keywords to use), and that's a lot of different anchor text to get for one page.
To use a more modern example, if I had a site selling cars, then I would target the keyword "cars" with one page (I haven't actually done the research) and would target the keyword "suv" with another since folks doing those searches are looking for two very different things.
Hope this helps!
Phil

Hi Boo,
Adding the additional phrases into the text and title tags of the page that is currently ranking #1 could help. So long as you do it in a natural way then there shouldn't be a problem. My rule of thumb is that if it sounds stupid when you read it aloud, then you've over done it.
If you add something into the URL you should be aware that you're effectively creating a new page so you need to weigh up the benefits of doing this for a page which already ranks well for a relevant term -horse buggies in this case.
It's fine to build links with the anchor text of the new terms (so long as it's white hat link building of course).
If the market for large and giant horse buggies is large enough to warrant a page that lists exclusively those products then that's personally the avenue I'd go down - create a new page which is tailored to help people looking especially for large and giant horse buggies.
Let me know if that didn't make any sense at all - I got disrupted part way through writing.

Why is page still indexing?
Hi all, I have a few pages that - despite having a robots meta tag and no follow, no index, they are showing up in Google SERPs. In troubleshooting this with my team, it was brought up that another page could be linking to these pages and causing this. Is that plausible? How could I confirm that? Thanks,

Different Header on Home Page vs Sub pages
Hello, I am an SEO/PPC manager for a company that does a medical detox. You can see the site in question here: http://opiates.com. My question is, I've never heard of it specifically being a problem to have a different header on the home page of the site than on the subpages, but I rarely see it either. Most sites, if i'm not mistaken, use a consistent header across most of the site. However, a person i'm working for now said that she has had other SEO's look at the site (above) and they always say that it is a big SEO problem to have a different header on the homepage than on the subpages. Any thoughts on this subject? I've never heard of this before. Thanks, Jesse

How long takes to a page show up in Google results after removing noindex from a page?
Hi folks, A client of mine created a new page and used meta robots noindex to not show the page while they are not ready to launch it. The problem is that somehow Google "crawled" the page and now, after removing the meta robots noindex, the page does not show up in the results. We've tried to crawl it using Fetch as Googlebot, and then submit it using the button that appears. We've included the page in sitemap.xml and also used the old Google submit new page URL https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url Does anyone know how long will it take for Google to show the page AFTER removing meta robots noindex from the page? Any reliable references of the statement? I did not find any Google video/post about this. I know that in some days it will appear but I'd like to have a good reference for the future. Thanks.

Ranking slipped to page 6 from page 1 over the weekend?
My site has been on page one for 2 phrases consistently from May onwards this year. The site has fewer than 100 backlinks and the link profile looks fairly even. On Friday we were on page 1, we even had a position 1, however now we are on page 6. Do you think this is Penguin or some strange Google blip? We have no webmaster tools messages at all. Thanks for any help!

Getting a Home Page to Rank
Hi Mozzers, My question specifically has to do with optimizing a home page for specific keywords, but still keeping the design clean and not cluttered.

How do you guys prefer to go about it? Currently our home page only really gets traffic for branded keywords (though we do have some rankings for real keywords showing in GWT which I can't really explain). I know how to write content for specific long-tail keywords, but we want to keep our homepage very clean, not filled with gobs of text. Right now my main plan is to display content under a "Read More.." button.
What do you pros suggest? Thanks!0 -
How many links home on a page?
We are planning on a mega menu which will have around 300 links and a mega slider which will have around 175 links if our developer has their way. In all I could be looking at over 500 links from the home page. The Mega Menu will flatten the site link structure out but I am worried this slider on the home page which is our 4th most visited page behind our 3 core category pages. What are your thoughts?

Where is the best place for Landing Pages to reside on the Home Page?
On this site http://www.austintenantadvisors.com/ I have my main landing pages listed in the navigation under "Types". The reason why I did this is because I am not sure where to insert those on the home page where it does not look spammy to Google and looks natural for users. Obviously they need to appear somewhere on the home page for Google to be able to continue crawling and indexing them. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

On Page question
HI folks, I have a warning that I have missing meta tag descriptions on two pages. 1) http://bluetea.com.au/wp-login.php 2) http://bluetea.com.au/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword Is this something I should just ignore? Or is there a best practice I should be implementing? Thank you for your time
