301 Re Direct Question for www
-
Can smeone check this code to make sure it is right so thaqt my site uses www always.
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^exercisebiology.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.exercisebiology.com/$1 [R=301,L]
I had the hostgators customer service personnel perform this. But I cannot get it to redirect. But he says it works.
-
Yea That's what I think.
I tried adding the traoling slash with 301 redirecet, but it didn't work.
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.)/$ RewriteRule ^(.)$ http://www.exercisebiology.com/$1/ [L,R=301]This was the code I used. Can you tell me what is wrong please?

Does your site use the "index.php" version of the page with parameters to handle logins? In that case, you can't 301-redirect the page across the board. You'd have to do it selectively (only for the version with no parameters), and that's going to take custom-coding. You'd probably be better off with a canonical tag, in that situation - it would keep Google from indexing the variants (including the login pages, which have no search value).

Thanks!
1. Can you show me how to do a redirect for for http://www.exercisebiology.comto http://www.exercisebiology.com/ I want to add the trailing slash.
2. Also how to redirect from http://www.exercisebiology.com/index.php
to http://www.exercisebiology.com/.
When I tried to redirect the index.php last time, I couldn't login to the forums. Everytime when someone tries to login to my forums, it takes them the to the home page. I did it through the hostgator CP. I am thinking someone could help me here.
Thank you so much!

I see you have canonical tags in place. Considering that, I would suggest you are good. No need to setup any of those redirects. Canonical tags are in essence sort of 301's anyways, so you are all set.

Thank you. Worked like a charm.
Since we are on the topic, do you know how I can put a redirect for these pages: For every article, I have a few of these duplicate titles. I removed the pagination tags so it wont give out any more P's and N's But I am guessing I should do redirect. Should I ? **Here is an example of one article and the URL's with page numbers. **
/index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N12//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1564//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1568//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1572/P12//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1572/P18//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N1572/P6//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N16//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N4/P18//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N4/P6//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N8/P12//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/N8/P6//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P12/N1572//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P12/N8//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P18/N1572//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P18/N4//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P18/N8//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P6/N1572//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P6/N4//index.php/site/articles/does_testosterone_supplement_tribulus_work/P6/N8/

Try this in the .htaccess file. It should work fine for sure.
You don't need to manually add your website name.<code class="htaccess" title="in your .htaccess file">RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]</code>

301 and 200 Status Issues
Hi, Moz has highlighted that we have duplicate page content on our site, displaying the following: http://bmiresearch.com/press 200 status code and http://www.bmiresearch.com/press 200 status code We have setup a 301 redirect rule on http://bmiresearch.com/press to permanently redirect to http://www.bmiresearch.com/press and on Google inspect element network it shows this http://bmiresearch.com/press 301 status code which mean redirect to this URL permanently http://www.bmiresearch.com/press 200 status code Does anyone know why this might be occuring? Is it possible that because Google has index both URL http://www.bmiresearch.com/press and http://bmiresearch.com/press with 200 status code? If so how would we correct this? Thanks

Canonical question
I have at least three duplicate main pages on my website: www.augustbullocklaw.com www.augustbullocklaw.com/index augustbullocklaw.com I want the first one, www.augustbullocklaw.com to be the main page. I put this code on the index page and uploaded it to my site: http://www.augustbullocklaw.com/canonical-version-of-page/" rel="canonical" /> This code now appears on all three pages shown above. Did I do this correctly? I surmise that www.augustbullocklaw.com is pointing to itself. Is that ok? I don't know how to take the cononical code off the page that is the page I want to be the main page. (I don't know how to remove it from www.augustbullocklaw.com, but leave it on www.augustbullocklaw.com/index and augustbullocklaw.com) Thanks

Mod rewrite question
Sorry in advance if this isn't the best place to ask this question. Google Webmaster Tools has recently identified a ton of "Not Found" pages, which are actual pages with some digits appended at the end. For example, suppose an actual page on my blog is: (A) http://www.example.com/blog/2012/09/my-post-title/ This page works just fine. However, GWT has identified the following page as a "not found" page: (B) http://www.example.com/blog/2012/09/my-post-title/9157586677/1846732913010 This appears to be happening to hundreds of posts on my site. In each case, the "9157586677" portion of the URL is identical, but the remaining 13 digits change from page to page. I haven't been able to determine exactly what is causing this to happen - it's probably a social plug-in for Wordpress, or perhaps Disqus, but I'm not sure which one. I'll go through a process of elimination to narrow it down over the coming week. As a quick fix, I'd like to create a ModRewrite rule so that requests for (B) get 301 redirected to (A). Since there are hundreds of posts, I need to do this in a way that works regardless of what's in the "/2012/09/my-post-title/" part of the URL. Unfortunately, mod-rewrite is outside of my area of expertise. Can somebody please suggest how I can handle this? Thanks in advance. PS - As for tracking down the cause, I've looked at the source of the pages in the "Linked From" area of GWT and the Not Found link is nowhere to be found. That is why I assume the bad link is being generated by some javascript that is a part of one of my plug-ins. Update: It seems like Disqus is the source of these phantom links. There's considerable discussion here. I'll continue searching for a long-term solution. Meanwhile, I'd still appreciate help with the mod-rewrite question above. Thanks again.

301 redirecting a mobile site.
Is it possible to selectively 301 redirect mobile/tablet user agents and google robots from the desktop version of a website to a mobile site? Would this preserve the SEO for the desktop website while optimizing the mobile/tablet site for mobile SEO?

Should I change a 301 redirect?
I recently moved all the content from an old site to a new site on a new domain. I lost a significant amount of traffic as a result. There are 301 redirects for every page on the old site. Generally, these point to the same content as was on the relevant page of the old site. However, the 301 redirect for the homepage on the old site points to the homepage on the new site, not to the content from the old site homepage. I'm wondering whether to change the 301 to point at the content from the old site homepage. Any advice would be much appreciated.

301 Redirect "wildcard" question
I have been looking at the SEOmoz redirect guide for some advice but I can't seem to find the answer : http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection I have lots of URLs from a previous version of a site that look like the following: sitename.com/-c-25.html?sort=2d&page=1 sitename.com/-c-25.html?sort=3a&page=1 etc etc. I want to write a redirect so whenever a URL with the terms "-c-25.html" is requested it redirects to a specified page, regardless of what comes after the question mark. These URLs were created by our previous ecommerce software. The 'c' is for category, and each page of the cateogry created a different URL. I want to do these so I can rediect all of these URLs to the appropraite new cateogry page in a single redirect. Thanks for any help.
