Ranking dropping for certain keyword
-
Hi There,
Just wondering what has happened to my rankings as I cant seem to understand it.
In the past week we've dropped from page 1 to page 10 for a certain keyword. The URL is also different that google displays - instead of displaying the individual page it now just links to the main domain.
All the other keywords have remained consistent and some have improved. The page is still in the Google Index if I manually search for it.
There hasn't been any dramatic change to the page except I've created a few links to it.
Have we been penalized by Google and is there anything I can do?
-
Ok so the domain is www.ensorbuilding.com
The keyword is "rubbercover".
The URL which used to rank until around a week ago is http://www.ensorbuilding.com/section.php/43/2/firestone-epdm-rubbercover-flat-roofing
I submitted to a few directorys, not many maybe 5-6.
On my home page I did have the keyword in the META keywords and the Title tag but have removed them to avoid cannibalization as you mentioned.
-
Could you give the actual keyword and domain name?
-
Is there keyword cannibalization between the home page and the intended page for that keyword? Meaning are you referencing the same keyword in title tags, content, etc? Its possible the home page always was on page 10 for that keyword but you're only noticing it now that the other page has dissapeared from the rankings.
What kind of link building did you do?

Will Ecademy closure affect websites google ranking
Hi, i think i must be the only one that did not know about Ecademy sale, well almost. In the past week I have had a number of people contact me who are angry that they did not receive an email about ecademy business network being sold off. These people are more than angry about their monthly payments leaving their bank acounts and not having access to the new site which is here www.sunzu.com/ Although a lot of people are angry of the handling of this, an important question i would like to ask is, with ecademy no longer being around, does this mean that all the hard work of people writing articles on ecademy and gaining link juice, will all this link juice vanish look forward to hearing your thoughts

Date specific keywords, what to do for following year?!?
Hi, Lets say I have a page with the keyword 'film releases 2012', I rank the term and it picks up some back links and social signals. The year ends and search begins for 'film releases 2013'. Do I: 1. Create a new page targeting 'film releases 2013' and redirect the old page to the new one. 2. Just have one page with the url .co.uk/film-releases/ and when the year ends for 2012 just change the 2012 to 2013 (title, h1 tags etc). I'm 99% sure number 2 is the best option but the only negative is the url does not contain the year. I could just have the 1 page with the date in the url and when it enters the new year change the url to contain the new date but that would break any backlinks, so I could redirect anyone trying to get to the old url to the new one which should pass the PR across. But im guessing I would lose some PR in the process so maybe not having the date in the url would not effect SEO to much so rolling with number 2 is best bet. Cheers

Competitor ranking through SPAM
We have a competitor called SwitchWise who has done a whole heap of social bookmarking and article marketing, using a deceptive link with anchor text reading "i select electricity" which has got them ranking #2 in Australia for the term iselect (a big comparison company here in Aus). The articles are low value, the link is deceptive and it is generally bad for the consumer. I could copy their tactics for my client, but I'm concerned about the links eventually being devalued and the company placed in the sin bin. What is the best course of action as I really don't want to let them get away with this, either we need to be up there, or alternative we need to dislodge them. p.s I know this is not a great keyword, but it's more about stakeholder management in terms of what my client sees and how they interpret what we are doing relative to their competitors.

Ranking Inner Pages or the Main Page?
Hello Guys, I am relatively new to the SEO world. So I am just wondering what would be more helpful. Getting the homepage ranked for a list of targeted keywords or creating a separate page for each keyword and then getting those pages ranked? Look forward to hear back, Thanks! Naimath

Can changing our links page make our rankings drop through the floor?
Hi all, When I first started at my current job, most of the link building (aside from submitting to free directories left, right and centre) was replying to every spammy reciprocal email and adding them to our links page! Now we're all a bit wiser about such matters (thanks SEOMoz!), I want to get our links page turned into something actually useful. My plan was to get it neatly categorised, with recommendations, cut out unrelated links that would be useless to visitors and call it something like "Our Friends" I thought this might be useful for future link building efforts, but in its current state, it's a complete mess. However, I am worried about cutting out a lot of links if they have been reciprocal ones. Are the sort of sites that would be sending typical spammy link exchange emails for window installation in NY likely to notice our UK education site taking away their link six months later and take away ours? If they do, will losing links from these sites harm us? Perhaps more importantly, is my plan a terrible idea in the first place? Look forward to hearing from y'all!
