yep. you're right. I think i was very tired at the point that i read it(I do a lot researching and reading on seo).
In theory the Google Penguin Update should look at that site and say "that's not right, what does vacation rental, and computers have to do with hotels?"
One reason that Google hasn't done anything about it is because it probably has not re-crawled the page, or it by-passed with enough content before the links at the bottom of the page.

Modbargains I don't think this answers my question at all. I simply pointed to footer links on this site, to show that one of my competitors is buying links. I asked if people thought that this type of behavior is exactly what Penguin is designed to remove.

Any successes getting SEO/link vendors clean up Penguin-related problems they helped create?
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone's been able to get link vendors help clean up Penguin-related problems that they helped create? I have a client who was sold years and years of AWFUL link building work from a major and prominent SEO vendor, that we are now battling to de-toxify. There are no legal grounds for us as the ToS was watertight and the client is ultimately responsible (if naive), but has anyone been successful in getting vendors to cooperate with cleanups on ethical grounds? What's the best way to play that with a major vendor, I'm assuming they wouldn't want to be outed. Cheers all, Matt

Penguin issue or wrong linkbuilding strategy?
Quite a few month ago before Google implemented Penguin algorithm I had a great situation. After 24th of April my ranking and traffic dropped instantly. Here a a screenshot from my GA: http://imageshack.us/a/img15/4717/screenshot20121013at120.png I have reviewed my linkbuilding strategy and on-page optimisation however some keywords which dropped out of page 5 don't want to come back even close to page 1. I would appreciate a professional advise on how my strategy, on-page optimisation can be improved. Does anyone have any effective strategies about how to backlink for a new website. I'm just really cautious of this new penguin update and don't want to submit to too many directories or do anything that will get penalised, seen as the website is new.

How to Check if a Sites Backlink Profile is Penguin Friendly?
Post penguin I am of course very wary about which sites I proactively solicit links from. Here is the scenario. Let's say for example I found a blog relevant to my business sector, had good domain authority/moz rank and noticed that they accepted guest posts. Sounds great? Well on the surface it sounds like it would be worth reaching out to the blog owner - but what if that blog had been involved in some really shady link building practices in the past and the reality is that I could end up damaging my own site by association. Can anyone share any useful resources such as articles or tools that will help to understand how to qualify if a sites backlink profile is shady and should be avoided as a link prospect?

Links from local.com after Penguin
I have been doing some research on where some competing links are getting their links from and I see that a decent number seem to be getting some juice from local.com. My question is- have the panda & penguin updates rendered these useless- or even worse can links from directories like this now harm my SEO?
