An interesting way to deal with comment spam? (just 4 fun)
-
About two weeks back I set up a new website called www.gamsatsamplequestions.co.uk. It's a blog where, once a day, I post a set of verbal comprehension-style questions to help students prepare for the GAMSAT (the graduate entry to medicine exam used by universities in UK, Ireland and Australia.)
Along with rising traffic, I've recently started to receive spam comments. Before going ahead and activating Akismet or some other spam-blocking app I thought I might have a bit of fun with them..
I took my favourite spam comment (one allegedly about SEO) and wrote up some questions to turn it into a sample GAMSAT reading comprehension
It's not the most efficient way of moderating spam comments, and my not-so-subtle bitter rantings are unlikely to deter any future spammers, but I nonetheless had a little bit of fun doing it..
So, my question is, has anybody else experimented with interesting or unique ways of dealing with comment spam?
E.g. created a directory of all the people who spam commented you / donated their email addresses to hordes of email marketers / replied with a kindly worded email expressing concern for their well being..
Has anyone stumbled upon anything more fun/efficient than the akismet-style plugins?

Whilst I like your approach in how you turned the blog comment spam into a relevant piece of content for your target audience, any process in outing comment spammers or any other associated processes will result in a lot of wasted time.
Comment spam is deployed in bulk, hitting millions of domains at once. The comments will largely be made using gmail email addresses so that the blog owner can't easily just ban the email domain from posting due to legitimate users of gmail. The entire process is automated, using scrapers, bots or other 'black-hat' software. The email addresses are widely not even maintained (real) - it is really of no bother to the creators, if the email address is added to mass marketing / email lists as whoever is employing them for mass spamming will own hundreds of thousands of email addresses with new ones being created every day.
There really isn't any effective way of manually combating spam, not one that most can really justify the use of their time dealing with... Unfortunately.

How do I remove 11,000 spam facebook page likes received overnight complete with negative ratings/reviews?
My page has 11,000 spammed page likes. Only 250 are legitimate. These spammers are leaving 1 star ratings. Facebook is limiting the number of likes I can delete. I can report some fake ratings as spam but, again, facebook is limiting what I see. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Update: I found a work around for the negative ratings/reviews. I can change the category of my page to "other community" to remove the rating system from the page https://www.facebook.com/changeratings/posts/445471405558046. That still leaves me with 11,000 illegitimate likes that are stealing away from my 250 legitimate fans from seeing our posts. Should I start over?

Tumblr Spam
I'm being outranked by a site that builds a ton of keyword-stuffed tumblr pages with 15+ links per page pointed back at their site with heavy keyword anchor text. What gives with tumblr SEO and their followed links? Anybody have any experience with this? Can there truly be this much value embedded in the tumblr domain?

I am wondering if there is a way to recapture the manager's position on Facebook Pages.
If this is a duplicate I apologize. Our employee had a client's business page tied to their personal page. This person is now a former employee and closed their personal page. That leaves us without full capacity on this client's Business page. Is there anything I can do? Or is the only way to reclaim manager status to start a new page?

Just how popular are some #Twitter Groups
Good Morning from 14 degrees C wetherby UK 🙂 As i sat on my grassy knoll puffing on a pipe overlooking the English country Land I wondered... just how do you measure the volume of users using hash tag twitter groups.... or put another way imagine you say to a client "Ok one idea is to get this friday meal deal promoted on #FF" The client then says... "So how many twitter users use the #FF" It a blunt but legit question & one I couldnt answer right now. So my question is please... "Is there a tool to measure frequency of use with regards to twitter hash tag groups" Thanks in advance 🙂

Very interesting test on social signals, thoughts?
According to this inforgraphic I found on Unbounce, the most powerful social signal is Google-Plus followers followed by Google-Plus votes. Now these results look amazing, so if this test is correct I need to gather 100 business page followers and a shed load of plus votes and I should see big movement in the SERP's? Thoughts? http://www.tastyplacement.com/wp-content/uploads/testing-social-signals.jpg testing-social-signals.jpg

Tool that recognizes twitter spam accounts
I seem to remember seeing an online app mentioned here that allows you to enter a twitter username, and it reports back metrics on the likelihood of each follower being a real person or not. Does anyone have the link, or did I imagine it?
