More than 100 links
-
Hi Everyone,
I was trawling through You Tube and came across this video from Matt Cuts from Google about the 100 links limit being removed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6g5hoBYlf0&feature=relmfu
I then logged into my SEO account as I remember a previous report we did for a competitor where they had quite a number of pages just over the 100 links, but only barely (They are highlighted in SEOmoz as a warning).
Given that google has removed this number from their guidelines and it's clear that a few over 100 isn't as bad as it used to be, is it not about time this was changed or looked at again?
Maybe even put ones like these under a new title such as recommendation rather that the alarmist Warning one unless it's ridiculously high?
I wonder if the SEOmoz team can also find out a better range figure for it instead of the outdated 100?
Regards
Alan

IMO, if you had 100+ links into deeper pages the only time that i feel it would be appropriate is if you have 100+ main categories. If I were google and noticed that there were 100+ link on the homepage pointing to obvious pages which would be in a main category I would think that was a bit inappropriate. So yes I would go for <100 always unless I had 100+ categories. i.e. ebay, amazon, craiglists, gumtree would get away with this.

Dr. Pete also wrote a post about this at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-many-links-is-too-many that helps explain things.

I think it is more to do with the PR flow of your internal link structure, sure you can have 500 links per page but its going to drop the overall level of PR flow. I feel 100 links per page or below is a good number to run by, but as above if you keep adding more and more links the PR flow internally will be lower. Matt Cutt's even states this in the video, which is an important point and states target the important pages.

Where is the link prospecting tool?
I feel like last year when Moz was still SEOMoz I used a beta tool that would help you build a bunch of queries for link prospecting. You would tell it what your sites about and a few other pieces of information, and it would give you a list of google queries to get you started (ie inurl:directory <industryname> +"add site"</industryname>). However, I'm having a hard time finding this tool, or any reference to it on the web. It's also possible that it wasn't a moz tool but I'm misremembering where I found it. Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

Is seomoz rogerbot only crawling the subdomains by links or as well by id?
I´m new at seomoz and just set up a first campaign. After the first crawling i got quite a few 404 errors due to deleted (spammy) forum threads. I was sure there are no links to these deleted threads so my question is weather the seomoz rogerbot is only crawling my subdomains by links or as well by ids (the forum thread ids are serially numbered from 1 to x). If the rogerbot crawls as well serially numbered ids do i have to be concerned by the 404 error on behalf of the googlebot as well?

Compare link metrics - What time frame is this in?
Hi, I'm comparing three sites and one of them I know is quite popular however a few of the social statistics are puzzling me; they've got a small amount of Facebook likes and times shared on twitter - Which just can't be right if it's all time. What's the time frame of this data? The last three months or? Thanks, Dan

How are our competitors getting these inbound linking domains?
I'm currently managing SEO for my company's website, and I'm getting into link building for the first time. As part of the process, I'm using Open Site Explorer to see who's linking into our competitor sites, to get a better sense of what's available to us in our particular avenue of e-commerce. However, I'm finding that our competitors are getting inbound links from high-authority sites pretty far afield from selling jewelry - census.gov, parallels.com, warnerbros.com, and others. I try clicking through to these links, but each link starts a download of a file. I've seen .f4v, .7z, and .apk files listed as inbound links to our competitor. How is this happening? Again, I'm new to link building, so there may be a simple answer here, and if so I apologize for asking. However, this seems really strange to me, and a difficult situation to confront.

HUGE LINK!PR9 Not showing up
Hi ,My site is ranking very well.Although lacking large numbers of links ,Im only able to grasp the bottom page of First Page, Im in the position #6 through Position #10 with approximately 44 keywords. Its been about a year now so i think im doing well .. ** Here is my problem,** I recently was able to pick up a few very good High ranking backlinks ,They are in the Range of pr8 & 9 they have huge amounts of links pointing to them,One of them is a Dot Edu back link..Niether one of these are showing up..In fact , In the open site explorer i had a couple very high domain rank backlinks showing as my top link. This been there for 7 months They are gone...Now i have these 2 new backlinks both pr8 and pr9 not showing up in the top of the list..They are both cached .I can see them in the cached links .. ** But where the heck is my new links ??? been about 1-2 months ..shoudnt these show up in the top of open site exploreer?? Very aggrevating...Could this be open site explorer reading the site differently month after month??**
