Google Places Question......
-
Hi Guys.
I am working with a photographer they do not have a studio they shoot on location.
However I noticed many photographers within their industry have their home address listed in their google places, and they too shoot on location.
My client doesn't want their home address listed so I wondered what options there would be?
Do you think renting mail forwarding address would suffice?

In my opinion, what you are describing is the same business model as a plumber or carpet cleaner who operates out of his home. He serves all clients remotely - none come to his home office. So, if the client lists the home address and phone number and then chooses the hide address function, that is signalling to Google that all work is handled remotely, but that in-person contact does take place, in compliance with the guidelines.
-
Huh, I didn't even know that was an option, but I see it there on the quality guidelines now. Definitely what the photographer should do, list their home address, then hide it. Good answer, I learned something.

I agree with Jeremy. If they don't want to list their home address, and don't have an address they can serve people at, like an office, then hide it. Google seems to be calling more often recently to see if businesses can serve people at the location listed.
Luckily, there no longer seems to be a ranking penalty for hiding your address. http://blumenthals.com/blog/2010/11/03/google-places-search-hiding-address-no-longer-buries-listing/

Hmmmm kinda sucks......
I just performed a search for wedding photographers in London and lots of google places adverts came up (many of them residential addresses) now none of those photographers can shoot a wedding at their home (studio or not)
So that doesn't make ANY sense whatsoever....oh well I guess its a no no then.

Well, you aren't supposed to have a business address that customers can't visit, so no...plus those photographers with home addresses shouldn't have their home address listed unless they actually operate their business from there (studio in their home). From the Google Places Quality guidelines:
Do not create a listing or place your pin marker at a location where the business does not physically exist. P.O. Boxes are not considered accurate physical locations. If you operate from a location but receive mail at a mail box there, please list your physical address in Address Line 1, and put your mail box or suite number in Address Line 2.

I used to do on-location photography and listed my home address for a while. Google called me to verify it and asked some questions regarding if people could actually visit it. I gave answers like 'I occasionally do photography there'. He acted annoyed but let it go.

Not all images indexed in Google
Hi all, Recently, got an unusual issue with images in Google index. We have more than 1,500 images in our sitemap, but according to Search Console only 273 of those are indexed. If I check Google image search directly, I find more images in index, but still not all of them. For example this post has 28 images and only 17 are indexed in Google image. This is happening to other posts as well. Checked all possible reasons (missing alt, image as background, file size, fetch and render in Search Console), but none of these are relevant in our case. So, everything looks fine, but not all images are in index. Any ideas on this issue? Your feedback is much appreciated, thanks

.htaccess Question
Hi,I have a website www.contractor-accounts.co.uk that has an .htaccess file that strips .php and forces a closing brace /. The site is now over 6 months old and still has a very low ranking with MOZ also rating the site as DA/PA = 1 which seems to indicate some sort of issue with the website. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why this site is ranking poorly as much of the onpage SEO has been completed to a level of 90%+ for specific keyterms so I'm probably either looking at routing of the framework of so other technical SEO issues possibly? One more redirect question
If there are two URLs like below: example.com/toys/batman-toys
Technical SEO | | IceIcebaby
example.com/birthday/batman-toys Both have the exact same everything, except URL key. The first example ranks for all KWs and search terms in the SEs. Does having the second page hurt my ranking potential for the first page? Should I redirect the 2nd page to the first or just leave it? As always, thanks for your help.0 -

Redirect questions
Hi! A client of mine have created a new site with a new URL structure which they launched the other day. They have done a 301 redirect on all pages on the old site to the start page on the new site. E.g:
Technical SEO | | lojdqvist
www.olddomain.com/subfolder1/index.html -> www.newdomain.com
www.olddomain.com/subfolder2/index.html -> www.newdomain.com I'm thinking of fixing this now so the redirect instead looks someting like this:
www.olddomain.com/subfolder1/index.html -> www.newdomain.com/newsubfolder1/index.html
www.olddomain.com/subfolder1/index.html -> www.newdomain.com/newsubfolder1/index.html Two questions: 1. Is it worth doing the latter kind of redirect in all cases (after all, it involves quite a lot more work compared to the first solution)? or do you recommend the first solution for all redirect projects?
2. Now that they have already done the first solution, is it at all worth amending this to the latter or is everything spoiled now that they have already gone ahead with the first solution? Many thanks in advance!0 -
