Using my name for personal branding?
-
AndrewSolomon and AndySolomon are both taken as domain names. I use the alias "andymisiu" for all of my social accounts.
I'm thinking of buying AndrewJSolomon as my domain name as James is my middle name. Should I be concerned with using my middle initial in my domain name?
I'm going to include "andymisiu" in the site title for recognition and branding.
What do you think? any advice?

.INFO is not a great SEO extension, according to Rand.
REF...Only Choose Dot-Com Available Domains
If you're not concerned with type-in traffic, branding or name recognition, you don't need to worry about this one. However, if you're at all serious about building a successful website over the long-term, you should be worried about all of these elements, and while directing traffic to a .net or .org (as SEOmoz does) is fine, owning and 301'ing the .com is critical. With the exception of the very tech-savvy, most people who use the web still make the automatic assumption that .com is all that's out there - don't make the mistake of locking out or losing traffic to these folks. But you are not competing with very competitive keywords, while of course you should look at the SEO value but if you're branding yourself I would think YOURNAME.INFO is a very good use of the that extension. I would imagine it wouldn't be too terrible hard to rank well for your own name with a .info unless you happen to be in a group of people who share their name with somebody famous.
-
I would go after it.
None of the domains that I am using were domains that I was the original registrant.

Just as a side,
have you considered purchasing either andrewsolomon.com or andysolomon.com?
Depending on how valuable the domain is to you it might be worth contacting the owners of the domains to see if they might want to sell. More often than not, people are interested in selling their domain and you may be able to get them for a bargain. A simple check on whois will give you the contact details or if they have a site you may be able to find contact details on there.
If you don't ask, you don't get.
-
Will it rank as well as .com or .net? when people Google "who is Andrew Solomon"? will it appear?
as a side note, I know an SEO who purchased www.whois(his name).com
-
Congratulations! andysolomon.info is available!
.INFO is a great extension for personal sites if you ask me.
I own my name .info
-
Yea, I read an article about personal branding that said to use your name when available. Issue is that my name is so common it's not available anywhere.
I'm still early in the branding stages but need to make a decision soon.
-
As a fyi, DrewSolomon.net is available at this moment. If you have the slightest interest you might want to pick it up as many others can read this Q&A.
I also checked and facebook.com/drewsolomon is not taken.
How do you like the name Drew? xD
-
I don't know.
My problem is that I have a mental disorder that makes it very difficult to remember things.
-
Should I consider changing "andymisiu" as my social profile name? or is it ok?
-
I think that it will be hard for some people to remember the middle initial. As a result some will type the domain without the initial and your traffic will go to someone else.
I could remember AJSolomon easily if you like that.
andymisiu is kind of hard to remember and spell
...This isn't advice... just what I think.

Google is mixing a product name with a technical term (both have same name)
Google is mixing a programming term name with a home product and ranking that programming website on top. And there is another 2 search results from the same website (DA - 56, PA - 55, Links - 71K, RD - 4500). Their positions are 1, 2 and 3. But the question/ answer section is showing question/ answer for both of the products, and there is local section, top stories, images, videos, Wikipedia, amazon, ad and an e-commerce site which is showing the home product. There are in total 7 results, and 1 ad. Google also showing description of both of the products on the right. 1,2,3 - Programming website, 4. Amazon, 5. Wikipedia, 6. Wikipedia, 7. E-commerce How difficult it could be to outrank the top result?

Person using expired domain and its links to drive traffic
Hi, I know about people using expired domains to drive juice to their primary site but what about people using AN expired domain as their primary site (totally changing that site into a trashy affiliate-marketing vehicle)? The site I'm looking at is thegunzone.com. It has, according to Semrush, almost 38K links. It used to be a legit 17-year-old firearms hobby site, and this is what it originally looked like: http://web.archive.org/web/20120213184627/http://thegunzone.com:80/ Here is its last page before it closed and the domain purchased by the affiliate marketer: http://web.archive.org/web/20170315084035/http://www.thegunzone.com/ It closed around February of 2017, and some affiliate marketer bought it and all its backlinks. However, all those backlinks, which were previously to various articles, are now directed back to those articles (which don't exist anymore) but the homepage, including Wikipedia links. Here's an example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygonal_rifling At the bottom, in the 7th Reference, there's a link to an article called " "Learning About Shooting . . ." but if you click on the original link, it just goes to thegunzone.com homepage. Again, the site's totally different. And there are just thousands of such backlinks to former articles that don't exist anymore but are redirected to this schlocky site's homepage (and it's passing its juice through too). My question is this: this cannot be kosher with Google backlinking policies, right? Is this prevalent on the internet? Why hasn't thegunzone.com been found out and its rankings penalized yet? And how do I report him? I see tons of other sites using this basic strategy too on search results with various hunting keywords. (Disclosure: I do own a hunting/firearms blog, but I don't do any backlinking at all.) Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Will GA Autotrack affect affiliate sites not using autotrack?
I want to add autotrack.js to affiliate quote forms hosted on my site. However, I do not know how it will affect affiliate websites (not associated with my quote forms, but with the same Google Analytics code, that do not use autotrack. I read that "Autotrack is not an official Google Analytics product and does not qualify for GA Premium". Will it harm my affiliates in any way to have autotrack on their quote form but not on their websites? It will have their GA website tracking number.

How do the engines look at pages populated using content from an affiliate site?
We are building out a section of our site using an affiliate partnership in the travel space. How would you suggest organizing the content so we do not get penalized for duplicate content? Do you suggest not suing the content at all?

Using follow links on client and resellers site
Hi, i have a backup software product that I sell to business. I would like to create a badge that says something like "powered by x backups". This would be an image with a href url pointing back to my company site. I would intend to give the client a discount if they were to place the small logo in the footer section of their website. I would also like to offer this to resellers. For example "Authorised reseller of x backups" badge that could be placed on the resellers website. I would like to do this for two reasons: To promote my company to the visitors of the clients website To build link juice Would this be effective in building quality links? It this type of link building allowed by google? If not, how strict are they? Is there any variation of my intended promotion strategy that would be more effective? Thanks

Best Way for Resellers to Use Outbound Links to Software Demos
I have a software reseller site that wants to have ever-present linking buttons to demos of the software they sell--the demos are on their software vendor sites. My concerns relate to SEO and leaking link juice; but, also to constantly providing visitors with the exit door. What are the best practices for such a situation?

How to use different affiliate link based on geolocalisation in a Seo friendly way ?
Hi All, My website Sportytrader.com http://www.sportytrader.com/ works as an sport betting affiliate website on the french language markets. With sport betting legalisation in Europe, only people from France can play on french sport betting website. The same for Belgium or swiss. We have traffic from everywhere. So we need to geolocalize all our affiliate links to provide the right affiliate link to the right person in function of his location? What is the best way and the more seo friendly way to do that? Thanks a lot, Renaud
