SERP Drop overnight for one of our domains - could it be the title changes?
-
Hi
Scratching our heads here over SERP drop for some of our product pages, Although they are all uniquely titled with the product name, we have recently added 4 words at the end of our title, like a slogan which are repeated on every one of our product pages.
However, we've also seen a drop, but not as far, on related category pages, these have unique titles.
When we talk about "unique title" being important for SEO, does that mean 0 reptition between page titles? I see many companies use their site name in the title (even here see | SEOMOZ Q&A - would four words at the end of a title do this?
Or am i barking up the wrong tree entirely? Ive seen so much movement over the past few weeks its hard to correlate anything we do with the result, so even after advise I think i'll wait a week
-
My conclusion would be to look elsewhere and as you said, sit back and watch them closely. Maybe some linked sites got hit hard and lost their weight in Google over the last week with this latest algorithm change and it indirectly effected your product pages.

Hi
No the slogan isnt for ranking factors its to try to improve the CTR, so staiting how strong pricing is (as it actually is as this site is a comparison model)
-
I'm seeing a lot of movement on my client's ecommerce site as well. Mainly I've seen my homepage drop from rankings that it never really was purposed for and product pages are staying strong if I optimized and have supporting content for that keyword. There are a few exceptions but not many.
I have been adding the name of the company (3 words) after the product name on some products and it doesn't seem to be effecting my rankings at all. It's something I do if my product title is really short. I feel if a user sees a two word title in the SERPs they won't take you seriously.
What is the slogan's purpose? Are you using it as a ranking factor or to help the end user?

The Consequences & Best Practices In Changing Domains
Working with a long established/organic successful site that, for brand reasons I disagree with, is verging on changing its domain name. Other than 301ing individual pages to their new domain name equivalent, getting canonicals updated, updating SSL certificates, new Google Search Console with old settings, maintaining the old robots.txtetc what else is worth paying attention to? Assuming I do all of that, how bad a hit to organic over what period of time might this result in? 6 months ago we migrated to https and that was hardly felt, but this is really a brand new domain name altogether. Thanks!

Weird Google SERPs after New Domain Transfer 301
Hi, I have some very weird results in the SERPS - We did not do a complete 301 of the entire domain, but rather individual pages. We did the transfer back on 10th of June, and I was checking to see if there were any results on old domain of pages that were transferred to new domain via 301. There were, but... Now I have the following occurring in the search results: Title of Page (Links to old domain!! )

Many changes carried out - Caused a rankings dip one week on?
Hi all! Last week various changes were carried out on a website which has large traffic daily.

The changes included; Re-structure of product meta titles ~500 Re-structure of product meta description ~500 Canonical link included on the majority of pages ~600 Meta details have only been changed mildly Title has gone from
Name | Product Code | Category | Company Name
To
Name | Category | Collection | Company Name
IF the title is shorter than 62 characters, the price gets added in.
Name | Category | Collection | Price | Company Name Descriptions have been cut shortIF description is over 156 characters the word on the limit is cut off and replaced with ... Canonical LinksReasoning for adding a canonical link for each product was to point Google in the right direction. Upper and Lower case within the URL are reachable .aspx / .html at the end of each page Canonical link added in the meta directing to a lower case version of the URL. Rankings have been reduced across various keywords, however a few have had a positive impact. Would you say this is a dip before a mild rise, or something I've done is harming the rankings and needs to be reversed? I'd appreciate any advice given. Many Thanks0 -
Sub Domain
Hi everybody, My competition has started to use the sub-domains vastly. He has created one sub domain for every single city and keyword. Is it something that I should be worried of? Is it a good idea I start doing the same thing? Thanks for your help.

SEO is changing - how has your day to day changed?
I'm sure we all read on our alternatives to Google Reader that SEO is changing - "here's what we must do to be relevant in 2014". I find these articles boring and uninformative. I suspect I'm not alone. The reason I'm not their biggest fan is because I feel like I've invested 10 minutes into an article that I have no actual guidance from. Therefore, I thought I'd ask the real SEO's, you guys, what has actually changed for you? Are you now not creating content with the aim of getting links? If you run a commercial website, what are you doing different to rank your product pages - directly or indirectly? Please share with the group. I'm sure many like me are still brainstorming and creating content they think will grab people's attention and gain them links, whilst also pushing their Facebook, Twitter, Youtube profiles, etc etc. What has changed about this?

Why the sudden link drop?
A the end of November I am showing that our total links were 118k. Current links are 22k. We changed sites early November so that was about three weeks before. What would cause the drop of about 100k links? Or where should I start investigating?

Transfer webshop to other domain. Will there be a huge visit/sales drop?
A client of main has a specific domain for their webshop, separately from the brand the domain. The brand domain has much more authority (according to SEOMoz), so the conclusion in an other topic was that it would be better to move the entire webshop to the same domain as the branddomain. Like moving www.webshopdomain.com to www.branddomain.com/webshop Of course all categories and important pages will have a 301 to give through the build up authority. Does anybody have experience with this? I believe in the end this will be much better because all authority will be build up at the same domain.

But I am afraid of a drop in the beginning. If there will be a sales drop, I really must give my client notice of this... I hope somebody has done this before..0 -
Are sites that leave out www from domain at a disadvantage to domains with www in url
I know this has been discussed but was wondering what would be the best approach from an SEO perspective. I quite like the idea of setting up websites with domains without www but always worry that setting up domains without www has a disadvantage because user are use to referring to sites with the www included. Thus one of my fears are that users would link back using www version which will mean even if you do a 301 redirect that some of the link juice would be lost. I know some famous sites have used this convention such as http://searchenginewatch.com/ so think it would be possible but still concerned that for new sites it would be better to rather stick to conventions. What are your opinions about this?
