Transfer webshop to other domain. Will there be a huge visit/sales drop?
-
A client of main has a specific domain for their webshop, separately from the brand the domain. The brand domain has much more authority (according to SEOMoz), so the conclusion in an other topic was that it would be better to move the entire webshop to the same domain as the branddomain.
Like moving www.webshopdomain.com to www.branddomain.com/webshop
Of course all categories and important pages will have a 301 to give through the build up authority.
Does anybody have experience with this? I believe in the end this will be much better because all authority will be build up at the same domain.
But I am afraid of a drop in the beginning. If there will be a sales drop, I really must give my client notice of this...I hope somebody has done this before..

Thanks Reload Media and Deb Dulal Dey.
The job is done (for a while now) and the results are even better than hoped for.
In the beginning, there was a little (very little) drop, but within two weeks they climed up.Now we have doubled the organic visitors!
So, it turned out great

_Honestly speaking you are going to take huge risk here. I hope the www.webshopdomain.com is faring well in the SERP and since you are going to move the entire domain in the directory structure, it will still lose some link juice and PR value. And yes of course, some of the rankings of your website is going to suffer. And may take some time to recover the ranking. So, it is up to you. _

Hi Gerjan,
You're doing the right thing. There is a risk of losing some rankings with any site migration. Your job as an SEO is to reduce these and let the client know there is some short term risk.
301's are the main thing but if you follow this check list you'll be ok...

Hope it goes well.
Thanks

Redirection of 100 domain to Main domain affects SEO?
Hi guys, An email software vendor managed by a different area of my company redirected 100 domains used for unsolicited email campaigns to my main domain. These domains are very likely to get blacklisted at some point. My SEO tool now is showing me all those domains as "linking" to my main site as do-follow links. The vendor states that this will not affect my main domain/website in any way. I'm highly concerned. I would appreciate your professional opinion about this. Thanks!!

Can’t put a finger on, what is causing 12 year domain, SEO optimized and decent link profile to rank lower than other less superior domains.
Can’t put a finger on, what is causing 12 year domain, SEO optimized and decent link profile to rank lower than other less superior domains. I have dissected the site and link, content, etc profile using ahrefs tools, still no luck, and unfortunately they do not have a community to ask anyone opinion. Hoping someone on Moz will be able to provide me with a secondary opinion or something I obviously missing here. Looking for any constructive feedback/professional opinion with fresh look on what maybe the cause of our down rankings and what may be a cause of it. Any feedback is very much appreciated. 90% Traffic Drop...
Hey Moz Community Our team has been racking our collective brains about a 90% drop in traffic a niche client of ours has seen. The traffic drop occurred September 20th. The site averages 300-400 unique visits a month (very targeted & niche) & dropped to 30-40 uvm. The domain is on an exact match but other then that I can't see anything that would be deserving of such a significant drop in traffic. Our campaign had been performing very well & we were seeing steady gains in traffic & ranking over the long term until September 20th. I'm curious if the exact match update would have such a big impact months after it was released (July/July if I remember correctly). I also didn't think it could be such a big issue because that domain has been used by us for a couple years. Is the Exact Domain Match such a big deal? eJGe3Vw

Keyword-Rich Domains - Redirect?
Hi, Mozzers- I have a client that has a bunch of pretty nice keyword-rich domain names. Their traffic and rankings are good. They provide legal services in the Chicago area. I have lots of good content that I could use to start a blog using a domain like keyword,keyword-blog.com. Good idea? Currently I have a resources area on their website but feel like this area could be getting a little bloated and some news-related stuff isn't really appropriate. 2 Questions: Should I use one of the decent domains for a blog and build up the rankings, traffic, and link to the main site? Or is this lots of work for little payout? Both sites would be hosted in the cloud. Some of the domain names are related to their name, others are keyword or geo-targeted. Would it be wise to setup 301 redirects going to their website? Pros/cons? If you need additional info, please PM me for details. Thank you, friends! LHC
