Does anybody still use prweb.com or prnewswire.com?
I'm thinking of signing up but just want someone else's views on the sites?

I am in the same boat. After a lot of research I have come to the conclusion that if you are just looking for back links it may not be the best option. If you have something that is newsworthy and want back links as bonus then use PRWEB. You can pull some good coupons from here:

It depends on what you want out of it ? Do you have a new product / service and want to create buzz for it ? Then if you go with the right right press release package .. you might catch some journalists attention who might approach you for a story .
Pro Tips : Target Local Outlets , make sure the press release goes out at a time when people usually reads the news.
If you are after backlinks .. most outlets might no follow the links , have a text version of the press release out AND the press release is usually posted in its own section .. go through some of the older post and see what kind of Page Authority ( not Doamin Authority ) those pages have . Not much I would bet.
.. I follow a simple rule when it comes to link .. the harder to get the link the more valuable it usually is .
Pro Tip : The easiest quality backlink you can usually get is a well written blog post on blogs that accept guest posts. ( try to find something in your niche try searching for
- “guest post” + keyword
- "guest author" + keyword
- "write for us" + keyword
- etc

Hi Scott, you should ask yourself why you want to use the services? Is it to publicise a newsworthy story and increase brand awareness or to simply build backlinks to your site for SEO gain? If it's the latter I wouldn't recommend them!
It is fine using these services, and in my opinion, worth the cost but PR marketing should be done with PR in mind, not SEO. Only submit a release when you truly have something interesting to report, it's about encouraging coverage of your news/brand, and that goal wouldn't be achieved with cr@p content!

Manual penalty & long tail
Hi guys, one of our websites has received a partial manual penalty from Google, visible in our webmaster tools panel. That website was SEO-ed poorly via external agency, using very old-fashioned, spammy solutions. We have X keywords that are filtered (drops in rankings such as 2 -> 48), and X keywords that our website still ranks well for (stays top 3, etc). Question: after we remove all the traces of SEO implemented by previous SEO manager (so we remove some bad stuff from the web, and disavow the rest of bad stuff through webmaster tools), we expect drops in positions for keywords that were previously filtered (because not many links, if any, remains). How will that process affect our previously not-filtered main and long tail phrases? We wonder if there's a point in removing that manual penalty. Our website still receives solid portion of organic traffic, because Google didn't penalized all of our phrases supported by bad SEO. Any tips or suggestions as to what path should we take from here? Mind you, this is an e-commerce website. We fear that removing the penalty will result in removing most of the existing organic traffic, and our sales will suffer tremendously.

Are site profile links from sites like Quantcast still a Google friendly quick win?
I heard one of the speakers from Link Love suggest getting an easy high PR link from Quantcast.by creating a site profile page. What is everyone's opinion on the value of this type of link when blended with other types of link building activity. Low, Moderate? What is the best way to find these types of link profile opportunities? Any one have a good list?

Link Building & Juice
I have a corporate client which has multiple franchises, therefore microsites (www.example.com/cityname) within their corporate website(www.example.com). I am trying to build some links for these microsites that are lot weaker than the corporate web page in terms of PA. We worked hard putting most of these locations into local directories such as Google places and yahoo local, but the ones on yahoo local are all pointing to www.example.com even when you search a specific city when it suppose to be www.example.com/cityname. So first thought is to edit all of the yahoo locals to the microsite webpages for every locations but then I thought that wasn't a good idea since I will split the juice passed to the corporate website www.example.com. The corporate website is really important and wouldn't want to weaken its PA. Can someone tell me what are my options in order to not hurt the corporate website and to improve ranking for these weak microsites? should I still edit those yahoo listings to the microsite website or not? if not what how will I be able to build more links? Traditional link requests still the right way?
Is the traditional way of link building wherein we send requests for two way or three way links still important? I feel posting articles, blog commenting, blog posting, forum commenting etc are better means to build links... but since I am still new to this industry I may be wrong. Please suggest.

Nofollow links & content syndication
When syndicating content, I have heard/read that even if the piece you syndicate has a link back to your site (original post), the engines should be able to tell your post is the original because of the link that is pointing back. Is this the case when the links are "nofollow"? I think not, but I just would like to get someone else point of view. I think that if they don't want to follow the links, they should at least add noindex meta robots tags to the post so it doesn't create duplicate content... Any thoughts? Thanks!
