Question On Product Review Video Production
-
We are looking to make reviews of many of the products we have on site (staff reviews). The only problem I am having is our products are not stored at our office (nor can they be as they weigh hundreds of pounds and are super expensive to ship).
So what would be a good solution to show in the video? Should we just do a slide share of still shots of the products with a voice overlay or try something more of a hybrid that uses a whiteboard?
The products themselves cater to gardeners and the DIY crowd so it doesn't need to be super involved.

Hi Erick,
This sounds like an interesting conundrum - but I'm sure you'll be able to find ways of making it work.
Echoing some of the previous two comments, I agree that it would be ideal if you can unite the staff and the product in some way - be that sending staff to a warehouse/studio somewhere or just doing "test" videos going forward when you try out a new product.
However, if this is not logistically possible, you have a couple of options:
- Chroma Key the staff onto a studio image of the product
This is essentially like doing a weather video for your product - getting a nice image of the Product in the warehouse against a white background, recording the staff member against a greenscreen and then removing the green in post production in order to lay them over the product image. There are tons of tutorials online to help with this - but it will require some level of production skill to get it set-up right and look believable.
- Mix footage/image slide-shows of the product with footage of staff reviews
Here you could instead just intersperse quality images of the product with VO and footage of the staff member talking http://library.creativecow.net/articles/kramer_andrew/slideshows.php this is a great little tutorial which explains how you can get a slideshow looking nice an professional with Aftereffects - but you can do similar with Motion and other editing programs. I would ensure you always have some visual appearance of the staff members in this video type - otherwise it may appear like you have just hired an actor to do VO and you won't be displaying the personality and product knowledge that is required to make a decent product video. You'll also need to ensure the images you use are unique and in a similar style, using any stock product photography to build out the video will look unprofessional and make it appear like you are pure affiliates without any product expertise.
While both these options will allow you to mask and get around the physical distance between product and the staff experts, but only if you retain some level of production style and quality between the two bits of footage. This means with either suggestion, you will need a photographer/cameraman to get to the warehouse somehow. If this isn't possible - then I think you are in a bit of a tricky situation. You could just do talking head videos with a short introductory sting featuring a standard product image - but this would ultimately result in a sub-par product video. This doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't create anything, especially if you are creating the videos mostly for the opportunity to get rich snippets, but you should be aware that bad product videos can lower conversion rates as much as good videos can increase them.
Hope that's useful.
Cheers,
Phil.

I was working on a website on cell phone reviews several months ago and had the chance to view a number of mobile phone review videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites. The most effective videos involved showing how the product works such as the display, the camera, or the software. Some would also directly compare a phone with a rival to show its advantages. Unbiased reviews, would also touch upon the weaknesses of a particular device.
The advantage of a video review over a written one is the fact that it can visually display how a product functions. It also shows that you are truthfully reviewing a product since one can be clearly seen handling the device on video.
Now, I'm not sure how this would work with your product seeing as you've mentioned that they weigh hundreds of pounds and doesn't need to be super involved. But if you could somehow take advantage of the video to show how your product works then I think it would be more effective than just a still shots with a voice overlay or using a whiteboard.

This seems like largely a matter of opinion and creative direction, so I'd take most answers here with a grain of salt (mine included).
That said, I tend to be a little nerdy, and often detail-oriented... barring actual clips of the product in use, I like diagrams or schematics showing specifically how something works. Bonus points if you can expand on the how, and why your product's method of operation is superior. Still slides would work as well. Someone explaining the product in detail with a whiteboard style setup would definitely bring a human touch to it that some viewers may prefer.
Presumably the people you work with are also interested in the product, or similar fields. I would do a survey of them to see what appeals to them the most, and try to target the video at your audience. This an interesting and open-ended sort of question, so I'd like to hear what more people have to say on it...

Question regarding on tracking
Hi guys, We are tshirts printing company.
Conversion Rate Optimization | | WayneRooney
We have of course a website and we have around 18k monthly visitors.
We get around 75 daily quotes.
We are not E commerce so we dot sale on the website. We can get all the information from Google analytic regarding to how many quotes we got and from where they came from but we can't know how many quotes was converted. I heard that i can add ref code on the url and then i will see that code in our quotes system and i will know from where that quote arrived.
Another thing that i know i can do is that the system will remember that first url that the visitor enters the site so like that i can know exactly from each url we got the quote and i know that the professional name for this is SESSION. So after all this, the obvious questions here is, Is everything that im saying here is make sense ?
Can i add SESSION to WordPress site ? And how easy is that/or the cost for that ?
For all of you the expert out there, is this the right way to track everything if you are not eCommerce ? Any help are welcome !!0 -
Same review across multiple pages
Hello, I would like to add reviews on some pages of my website, so it could eventually show up in the google search results with some nice stars. The problem is that the same review will be shown on multiple pages: Example: Reviews about France Reviews about French Riviera Reviews about Monaco (The review is about Monaco but as it's a town on the French riviera and in France i would like to use it to calculate an "Aggregate Rating" for the parent destinations...) Do you think that the use of the same review (with microdata) across multiple pages could be interpreted as a spammy way to get stars in the SERP and eventualy result in lower positions ? Or should I just use the Aggregate Rating without the reviews ? Many thanks for your answers, BR from France Evgueni

Video Keno gambling SEO client !? Do I want em?
I have a guy who wants SEO help. Actually he owns several companies and is willing to put my ad before all the movies in a local theater plus an ad AND a Q&A section about SEO and Internet marketing in a small newspaper he mails to 7k businesses every month in exchange for my help. While I am excited about the exposure and I'm sure it would result in some business I'm not excited about touching anything related to gambling at ALL. Am I right in thinking this or should I treat it like just another client? He has a site where he teaches people how to win at video keno and sells this info packet. Porn and gambling. Everything I have read and heard is geared towards sites like this NOT coming up in search engines. Thoughts? Thanks and have an AWESOME week! Matthew

Review Functionality Plugins for eCommerce. Which are the best and most cost effective?
Hi Mozzers! Let me give you a bit of background for my question. I currently look after two eCommerce sites and naturally I want to get them using reviews for products for customer interaction / content and rich snippets. I am basically looking for a cost effective plugin that can plugin to our CMS system that can give us review functionality and will be compatible with rich snippets. At the moment we use Disqus for the blog commenting system and i've heard this can be used for product reviews. Any ideas would be great. At the moment our client is holding back due to 'lack of funds' so the most cost effective measures would be appreciated. Cheers,

Tips on marketing actual "Products" rather than "SEO Advice"?
First of all I just want to say that I love SEOMoz, it's by far the best no-BS resource for SEO and online marketing information in general on the entire Internet, and well worth the money. HOWEVER, one beef I am starting to have with it recently is... Most of the content being generated is becoming about "how to market to marketers" or "selling SEO" rather than actual advice or focus selling general products or services. By this I mean that all the new trends towards pumping out content based on research, making fancy infographics etc. etc. are all well and good for those who are trying to market their marketing or SEO talents in general but not THAT applicable to traditional online storefronts. I work for a fairly large company that sells tickets for theme parks/attractions/tours etc. and SEOMoz was a huge help initially for a recent site redesign, but now every time I log on to check for fresh content it's seemingly a repeat similar advice on how to get links or traffic for an SEO business. I don't mean this to come off as a whine because as I said SEOMoz is wonderful, but I've conducted endless site searches for (recent) information on traditional online marketing etc. and the ratio just seems to be...off. Anyone else feeling this way?

Google Plus account - Should I use Brand or Product Type
Hi Let's assume that our company's name is "Smith Computers" and we specialize in Ultrabooks (for those who don't know - super light and slim computers - a niche within computers for the matter). Under which name would you open the Plus account - Smith Computers Ultrabooks Smith Ultrabooks Smith Ultrabooks Computers The example is not 100% but the question remains - No one knows Smith Computers and even if we turn up in search results for computers, the customers are not looking for our type products.
Conversion Rate Optimization | | BeytzNet
However, it is our brand name! Ultrabooks - I assume it will help us gain followers faster but will be hard to brand. The followers will be people who like the product and not the company but might be good people to sell to in the future. I'd say that option 3 is half branding and option 4 is 75% branding 🙂
Both will also have good chances to pop up in search results. The company at hand is a family owned business. We do not plan to rule the industry but rather taking it to the next level. We do not count on having thousands of people searching Google for "Smith Computers" like Best Buy etc. Please consider that at the end we want to use it both for promoting our brand (slowly) but also (and maybe mainly) SEO (by getting more people that click +1 onsite). We currently have lots of Facebook followers but naturally they only Like and not +1 Please help...0 -
Why does Google only show the review stars for some listings in the Places results
I have a client who shows up in the Places results for his targeted keyword phrase, but one of his competitors' listing shows 5 gold stars next to the reviews which causes him to stand out visually. I was under the impression that at one time the stars only showed for listings that had official Google reviews, but the other listings in the results also have "Google Reviews" but no stars.

Reviews not shown on google search & seller rating extensions (adwords)
Hello, we have 2 questions, regarding reviews from rating websites. 1. Reviews on google Search We have several reviews for our website www.theprintspace.co.uk from various rating sites (e.g. qype, yelp, remotegoat, etc.). When searching for theprintspace on google, only some reviews and only some rating website are shown, most are not. For qype, for instance, we have 8 reviews, but google only indicates that we have 3. The yelp reviews (and many others) are not shown at all. According to google, it takes a maximum of 2 months for the correct number of reviews to be shown on google, but the reviews have been online for over 2 months now. Is there any way this problem can be solved, so google shows the correct number of reviews? 2. Seller rating extensions on google adwords We would like the reviews to be displayed in our google adwords as a seller rating extension. These will include the merchant star rating for advertisers that are highly rated on Google Product Search. We are setting up a google merchant account to do so. Google says: "Ratings are based on the user reviews collected by Google Product Search, which aggregates reviews from a broad base of sources across the web, including Reseller Ratings, Bizrate, ReviewCentre.com and Viewpoints." Do you know if the following rating website are in google's "base of sources" and will thus be recognised and used in google adwords as rating extensions? Yelp Qype Scoot Remotegoat viewlondon tipped Or does google only source from big e-commerce rating websites? How do we get the ratings into our adwords? Thank you for your help!
