Do people associate ads with crap content?

One of our client gets links from his content but he has ads everywhere. We were thinking he would get more links if he took down the ads. I think when people see a bunch of ads on a site they associate it with crap spammy content . What do you guys think?
More specific adsense link and banner units.

Too much ads on a page can affect a visitor's experience with your content. The presence of too many adverts may lead them to think that the content was meant solely to sell a product or a service instead of providing helpful information.
I do agree that judging if a content has too much ad is relative. Perhaps you can do a survey and see if people feel that the website is too loaded with ads. I think "Are there excessive adverts on this page?" is one of the questions included in some of the efforts to replicate Google's Panda questionnaire. They were trying to see if high ad ratio was one of the signals being used to determine if a site's content is crappy.
Many of the websites that have been hit by the first Panda update were loaded with adverts so proper attention to the amount of ads on your page may get more links.

I think it depends on the site, design, content, etc. If you are careful with your ad placement and your users can EASILY find the difference between your content and your ads, I think you'll be ok.
Good isn't anti-ads like some articles you read would lead you to believe. In fact, Google even has material showing a user where they suggest placing ads on a page. Be sure to check out that link, especially sense you were asking about adsense.
I also know some bloggers that have ads set to display a set time after a post goes live, for instance 2 weeks after, that way your regular readers aren't having to look at ads, mainly organic traffic. However, if ads are done correctly (used sparingly, they take a back seat to content, etc) they can actually blend in nicely on a page.
Again, think like a user. If you were visiting a site what would you want to see? You probably wouldn't mind a few ads, placed in areas where you would expect to find ads, ads that are well done (if I use adsnese I ONLY use the graphic / media rich ads), and ones that are contextual to the site you are reading. (I've actually found adsense to pretty good at showing ads that are contextual on the page.)

Lots of visitors dislike ads, especially if you are popping them up, playing distracting animation or slapping their face hard with huge ads.
Google says that visitors should not have to "look" for your content. So you ads better not be pushing it down or hogging the top space on the page where content is expected.
However, people who spend a lot of money creating content and a lot of money on bandwidth have to recover those costs, pay the rent, pay the staff and make a profit. So, ads will be present on even the highest quality of websites.
The visitors who really hate ads are probably blocking them with browser add-ons. However, I think that most people are smart enough to know that ads pay the bills and will tolerate them as long as they are not offensive in content, placement or action.
I run ads on my sites and they earn links just fine. On my site I link out to about ten articles per day and I will sometimes not link to a site if they are slapping face, popping up, animating or serving raunchy ads.

Ha! love the question. I certainly associate lots of ads with crap content!
What's lots though? AdSense almost always triggers my, 'this is probably crap' filter and I can't remember the last time I ever linked to a site that used it.

If it blends in, and content is awesome, other webmasters won't care. Because it looks and feels legit.
If you feel like it is too much, there is a good chance there is. They should focus on higher CTR positions rather than massing ads everywhere. That is one thing some begginers don't understand, the reader/user will easily avoid those ads, webmasters need to emphasize on the positions that is more highly profitable and populate it with great earning ads.

For my content websites I only show ads to users coming from search engines and direct traffic.
You really don't want to show ads to social media and Wikipedia referrals. Wikipedia has strict guidelines and will definitely remove external links with too many ads. Those coming from social networks (Stumbleupon, a big one) are less likely to read your content if it's laden with advertisements.
Yes, too many ads is strongly correlated with poor content. So don't overdo it even for your direct/Google traffic users.

Duplicate content on yearly product models.
TL;DR - Is creating a page that has 80% of duplicated content from the past year's product model where 20% is about the new model changes going to be detrimental to duplicate content issues. Is there a better way to update minor yearly model changes and not have duplicated content? Full Question - We create landing pages for yearly products. Some years the models change drastically and other years there are only a few minor changes. The years where the product features change significantly is not an issue, it's when there isn't much of a change to the product description & I want to still rank on the new year searches. Since I don't want duplicate content by just adding the last year's model content to a new page and just changing the year (2013 to 2014) because there isn't much change with the model, I thought perhaps we could write a small paragraph describing the changes & then including the last year's description of the product. Since 80% of the content on the page will be duplicated from the last year's model, how detrimental do you think this would be for a duplicate content issue? The reason I'm leaving the old model up is to maintain the authority that page has and to still rank on the old model which is still sold. Does anyone else have any other better idea other than re-writing the same information over again in a different way with the few minor changes to the product added in.

Duplicate content within sections of a page but not full page duplicate content
Hi, I am working on a website redesign and the client offers several services and within those services some elements of the services crossover with one another. For example, they offer a service called Modelling and when you click onto that page several elements that build up that service are featured, so in this case 'mentoring'. Now mentoring is common to other services therefore will feature on other service pages. The page will feature a mixture of unique content to that service and small sections of duplicate content and I'm not sure how to treat this. One thing we have come up with is take the user through to a unique page to host all the content however some features do not warrant a page being created for this. Another idea is to have the feature pop up with inline content. Any thoughts/experience on this would be much appreciated.

Duplicate content reported on WMT for 301 redirected content
We had to 301 redirect a large number of URL's. Not Google WMT is telling me that we are having tons of duplicate page titles. When I looked into the specific URL's I realized that Google is listing an old URL's and the 301 redirected new URL as the source of the duplicate content. I confirmed the 301 redirect by using a server header tool to check the correct implementation of the 301 redirect from the old to the new URL. Question: Why is Google Webmaster Tool reporting duplicated content for these pages?

How to manage duplicate content?
I have a real estate site that contains a large amount of duplicate content. The site contains listings that appear both on my clients website and on my competitors websites(who have better domain authority). It is critical that the content is there because buyers need to be able to find these listings to make enquiries. The result is that I have a large number pages that contain duplicate content in some way, shape or form. My search results pages are really the most important ones because these are the ones targeting my keywords. I can differentiate these to some degree but the actual listings themselves are duplicate. What strategies exist to ensure that I'm not suffereing as a result of this content? Should I : Make the duplicate content noindex. Yes my results pages will have some degree of duplicate content but each result only displays a 200 character summary of the advert text so not sure if that counts. Would reducing the amount of visible duplicate content improve my rankings as a whole? Link back to the clients site to indicate that they are the original source Any suggestions?

Nuanced duplicate content problem.
Hi guys, I am working on a recently rebuilt website, which has some duplicate content issues that are more nuanced than usual. I have a plan of action (which I will describe further), so please let me know if it's a valid plan or if I am missing something. Situation: The client is targeting two types of users: business leads (Type A) and potential employees (Type B), so for each of their 22 locations, they have 2 pages - one speaking to Type A and another to Type B. Type A location page contains a description of the location. In terms of importance, Type A location pages are secondary because to the Type A user, locations are not of primary importance. Type B location page contains the same description of the location plus additional lifestyle description. These pages carry more importance, since they are attempting to attract applicants to work in specific places. So I am planning to rank these pages eventually for a combination of Location Name + Keyword. Plan: New content is not an option at this point, so I am planning to set up canonical tags on both location Types and make Type B, the canonical URL, since it carries more importance and more SEO potential. The main nuance is that while Type A and Type B location pages contain some of the same content (about 75%-80%), they are not exactly the same. That is why I am not 100% sure that I should canonicalize them, but still most of the wording on the page is identical, so... Any professional opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
