How does Title keyword order, number and puctuation factor into rankings?

Hi,
I am new at SEO and really trying to dive right in and do some thorough keyword research before I put my efforts into on-page optimization. In my research I have found a bunch of keywords that have low competition and decent search volume for my niche. I was thinking that I could be quite clever to combine a few of these phrases together in order to target them all. I realize that the first few positions for title tag placement hold extra value so I do not want to overdo it with my word choices and therefore not rank for my keywords.
For example "pink girls room" has the highest (but not a ton) searches out of the keywords that I have found. "pink room decor" is also a decent and relevant keyword. So if my title is "Pink girls room decor" at the beginning of my title will I hurt myself instead of thinking that I am clever enough to get both keywords with one shot.
Also, if I add more keywords in a natural way after this important beginning phrase, will it help me get more long tail search terms or will it just dilute my original keywords?
Finally, how do search engines view punctuation? I have noticed that when I search for terms myself that Google appears to ignore punctuation.. Does that mean if I am strategic I can get more keyword terms in my title and still sound human by taking advantage of this?

Today I read something different.
My understanding is that Google will also rank for the words in the title themselves not necessarily in the order placed, whereas Bing and Yahoo have a stronger emphasis on exact order keyword match. So today I changed up my Title in hopes of getting in a few more key words too. Hopefully I don't fall from my lofty perch for my main key word that is in my URL.
PS...I did have one word twice in my title ...I hope I don't get penalized for that.

"Pink girls room decor" does not cover you for "pink room decor" because the words need to be all together and not separated by another keyword.
"Pink girls room decor" covers you for "Pink girls room" and "girls room decor"
Yes additional alternative keyword phrases will help not hurt as long as you don't keyword stuff, "bedroom" and "room" are different keywords so think of alternative words that are also searched
Punctuation is ignored but still should be used for proper grammar

Good morning! I have a quick question about international keyword research. So, I created a keyword list full of terms that we want to analyze in Latin America. My question is around search results. For example, if the keyword I am analyzing in English is "apples" and I choose the region as Mexico, should I submit the keyword to be analyzed as "apples" or the Spanish translation "manzanas"? I am confused as to whether the results account for the translation of someone searching "manzanas" in Mexico to the English term "apples" and how that whole process works. Two major pages ranking for the same keyword phrase
Hola all, So I'm having an issue where I have two important pages (homepage and page that lists products) that seemingly take turns ranking for an important keyword phrase. One day the homepage is in the top 20, one day the other, one day neither. And it's gone on like this for a couple of months. Both are optimized for keyword phrases that contain a shorter keyword phrase. So for example, let's say the homepage is optimized for: "Get paid to take polls" and the other page is optimized for "Earn cash for paid polls and more." Both contain: "paid polls." Is there cannibalization happening here? Should I completely remove "paid polls" from one keyword phrase? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Roman

Ranking Factors
Hi, Question from a newbie. Several years ago, my company invented The Mosquito device which emits high frequency sound to disperse groups of troublesome kids. I guess you could say it went viral. The result was that we have always ranked at position 1 or 2 on Google and never really put any work in to it. It was automatic. My question is, that over the years we have brought out other products which were not as significant etc. and have put a bit of effort in to rankings in the UK and done OK, however, no we are about to launch something that is going to generate a lot of interest in the security market, but not as much as mosquito. We have therefore been putting some serious thought in to the name of this product and this is where i am stuck, i have only been learning SEO for a matter of months, just enough to know that i don't know enough, so here is my plea for guidance. Our company is called Compound Security Systems www.compoundsecurity.co.uk and we make GSM and GPRS communicating security systems that are battery powered and wireless, for use in empty properties, construction sites, farms, etc. Our new product is one of the above but with a visual verification (camera / video) system in it specifically for EXTERNAL use (there are 1 or 2 for internal use). The only name we can come up with that is not already in use is 'CompoundVision". Now, going back to Mosquito, we ranked 1 or 2 even though there are millions of pages of content relating to Mosquitos. We have a similar situation with CompoundVision. Compound is part of our company name, the camera systems will also be used to secure compounds, but 'compound vision' is how insects eyes work and there is a huge amount of content out there. I have run a keyword analysis in Moz.com Keyword analysis tool (see below) but i really do not understand how to draw a conclusion due to the mitigating factors above. How do you optimize for compound keywords
What is the best way to handle keywords like "switchplate covers"? The key word may be seen as either a 2 or 3 word phrase, depending how you handle the compound term: "switch plate" or "switchplate" In google KW it shows different results for switch plate vs switchplate as well as using cover vs covers. I've tried using all the variations in my descriptions, titles and H2s but I think this is diluting them all. Can anyone show me best practice guidelenes or examples of good solutions to these kinds of compound key words? Thanks Handcrafter

Hi, Is using keywords in different orders considered keyword cannibalization? for example, if I my client has a catering business based in mississauga, Ontario, should I create separate 2nd tier pages on the following keywords? 1. mississauga catering 2. catering mississauga 3. catering in mississauga Is that keyword cannibalization?
