Can I Boost Ranking Linking off Pages internallly?
-
My domain authority is relatively low, but my right now my homepage seems to have the highest rank. If I place a few internal page links on my homepage, would this boost ranking on internal pages? Or would it pull juice away from my homepage?
Using the Seomoz OSE I see alot of my competitors using this type of strategy linking internally. Also would using breadcrumb links benefit me in anyway?
Thanks very much!

"we are clobbering retailers in a very competitive space"
Which is always nice to do!
-
No link building or much in the way of external promotion either to skew things just 100% content.
This is exactly the case for the content that I described. This is an informative site but we are clobbering retailers in a very competitive space.

I have used a similar landing page technique with various content driven SEO jobs. Set up several articles for the long tail and get them doing what they can and then have a more authoritative page that links to the detail page and goes after the big root keywords.
I am currently doing a job in the team building niche and the keywords are all damn competitive yet this approach is slowly building in scale and scope and we are starting to see some results on the bigger terms. No link building or much in the way of external promotion either to skew things just 100% content.
So yeah, I will second that as being fairly solid, if not substantiated and if you handle the long tail versions of your keyword first you are working up towards the bigger and more difficult terms in a structured and manageable way.

I believe that one strategy to ranking well for a root keyword is to have separate and substantive pages for many different subtopics. Then the page for the root keyword summarizes each of these and links to the more substantive page for full information. I have a couple pages like this ranking well for very competitive terms and am surprised at their performance. These are really big pages with a few thousand words, a dozen images, data tables and more. However, I believe that the links hitting deeper substantive content are very helpful. (This is just opinion, based upon observation. Never heard anything from google to support this or a large text with controls.)

Hey, it may help a little bit, but if you have little in the way of link popularity then it is not going to rock your world. This can work better when you have a well linked page / post and then link out from that + as ever, the benefit is partially due to user clickthrough on a well ranked article.
You need some good solid content and to leverage that to get some good links to help take things outwards in scope and upwards in rank.

How does a business have a link back where I can't see the anchor text?
So, I'm running competitor websites through Open Site Explorer and following the link from Moz to where their link is coming from. It has the anchor text 'Christmas Gifts'. When I go to that page there is no mention of this anchor text. No mention of that persons website. No display ad's that could be providing that link. How is this link pointing to their page?

Internal Links - How to Increase them, Categories not being considered as Internal Links
Hi All: As per my understanding, Internal Equity Passing Links is a metric defining PA. Now my website has around 65 internal links while few of my competitors have more than 180 links. I am unable to understand how to increase the internal links passing equity on my website, because I can see, more number of links on my website than my competitors but opensiteexplorer does not show that. I am really confused. Please help out if anyone knows something about this issue. Thanks in advance.

Home Page & Most Important Category Page Cannibalizing Each Other
OK, so here goes. We have an odd situation on our hands. Our website sells a product technically known as "nail polish strips". We are a small player at the moment, but the reviews we've gotten in "side-by-side" comparisons vs. the big boys have been crazy, and literally always in our favor. Now the issue..... The best way to describe our product as mentioned above is they are Nail Polish Strips. Our domain name includes the term "Nail Strips" in it. Of the 200+ bloggers that have done reviews and provided us links, about 80% or so have linked to the home page, most just using our websites name, some have been nice enough to actually use keyword terms like nail polish strips. Moral of the story, for the term nail polish strips, our link profile would indicate to the google machine that our home page is stronger for this term. THE BIG ISSUE HOWEVER...... Our main category on the site that shows products is the page we originally intended to optimize for the term Nail Polish Strips. And our aim was going to be to optimize our home page for something else, like maybe plain old Nail Strips. THE BIGGER ISSUE...... At any given moment, Google is having a hard time figuring it out. Based on our link profile, we should be on page one, but what we're seeing is today, it's our Nail Polish Strips category page that ranks for that term, and tomorrow that listing will be replaced with our home page. Literally, last night the home page was on the top of page two, and today, the category page is on the middle of page two. They keep flip flopping. Sometimes they both appear within the first 3 pages, sometimes only one appears on page two, the other drops out of the top 10 pages. OUR THINKING IS....... Our home page obviously has more strength and if the google machine is even implying they like it for that term, we might as well accommodate that. Keyword spy shows this term has a volume of around 18,000 searches. The term isn't hugely competitive, so we planned to 301-redirect the current category page URL that is competing with the home page, to the home page, and re-create and optimize the category page for something different, like Nail Polish Stickers or something to that effect. THE FINAL ISSUE....... The term stickers in this industry as it relates to our product has been the victim of a negative PR campaign because the big boys (or girls) are trying to say "Nail Stickers" are garbage as opposed to "Nail Polish Strips". The problem is Nail Stickers gets a lot more traffic. So we figured, we'd optimize the category page for Nail Polish Stickers, and explain in the text, that despite what some of our competitors say, just because we're using the word "stickers" to describe them, doesn't mean they are bad, so on and so forth. I ONLY MENTION THIS SO YOU SEE WHY I'M HESITANT TO PULL THE TRIGGER ON OUR ABOVE FIX. I know this is long, and I'm not doing a great job of putting it in to words, but any insight will help. I'm supposed to pull the trigger today or tomorrow on this re-direct and new strategy, but don't want to do so until I get some of my fellow ninja's opinions.

Will a link from a competitor help me to out rank them?
Greetings mozers, One of my competitors and I both rank on the first page for our main keyword. They have 37k+ links, me only like 300 or so. My company actually has a business location though. This other site is just a listing of locations and they build sites for most of my competitors. If I were able to get listed on their site, would that make me a stronger competitior with them? And we would probably only get a brand term link from them but not a main keyword anchor text. Will it be as effective to get the link from them if it's only for my brand name? Thanks, Cy

What should be my link building strategy Should I link other sites to index page of my website (if yes then what should be the anchor text) ? Should I link other websites to individual web pages of my website.

Total Links vs Ext. Followed Links
Hi I'm fairly new to SEO and SEOMOZ. I've created a campaign for my own site and I've added 3 competitor sites. There are 1,385 total links to my site and a massive 49,450 links to one of my competitor's site. However under "Ext. Followed Links", there are 1,045 to my site and only 911 to the same competitor site. Am I correct that it is the "Ext. Followed Links" which are more important from an SEO point of view as the other links have the "no follow" attribute set? Or have I got this wrong? Thanks James
