Removing links from blogpost inactive blogs
-
Hi there, I am having alot of difficulty in removing links to my domain name from .blogspot.com blogs which are inactive and i cannot contact the user.
Not so great previous seo works were done and i now need to clean it up, however no idea how to get rid of these blogspot ones.
As Google own it, do they have a contact form for it, where i can complain and get pages removed?
Any help MUCH appreciated guys and gals.

No problem, I feel for your predicament.
Let me know if you need any help with anything.
Thanks,
David

Yeah it's all going to our homepage, and i cannot move domains
17 bogspot dodgy blogs i need to get us removed from and 40 other sites who have nicely got no contact or whois info.
Brnading is the key i totally agree, thankyou for your advice, it is appreciated.

Yeh you want at least 50% of your keywords to be branded, so I can see why you are having problems. The two prong attack should help you though, if you can get 20-30 links removed and build the same amount, the balance will be moving back in your favour.
The page that is ranking on page 3, is that the one with all the exact match anchor text pointing at it?
If there are no great links in there, it might be worth cutting your losses and sending a 404 for that page, and launching the same page from fresh.
If the dodgy links are at your home page, then it looks like you're stuck pushing for these removals (unless you're ready to up and move domains).
I'm always about pushing for new links rather than trying to tidy up old ones, but in this scenario I can see your hand is being forced.
Cheers

Hi David, yeah im doing lots of branded links but the situation is this:
Anchor text one = 110 linking domains
Anchor text two = 57 linking domains
Anchor text one is what we want = were on page 3, its a very very competitive keyword
Anchor text two is brand.
I believe the reason is theres just far too many linking domains going to anchor text one.

Fair enough, if there's loads then you might have your options narrowed down.
Are they pointing at the home page or individual url's? If there are any url's that have tons of the dodgy links pointing at them, it might be worth killing them with a 404. Google went on record last week saying that any links pointing at a 404 will be discounted, so would be a good option for something like this.
Even if you go down the route of removing the links, I'd still recommend working to build up a stock of decent branded links at the same time.
If you want any help with the project, let me know.
Thanks
David

Thankyou very much, yes they have to go if i can get rid, way too many links done for the same anchor text.

Hi Paul,
For the effort you would have to go through to get these links removed, you would be much better spending the time building new links that will boost your site whilst counteracting any links you think are damaging you.
Unless the number is in the thousands, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Go out and acquire some fresh, branded, links that will balance out your profile.
That said, if you are determined to have them removed, it will be a long hard slog with no guarantee that Google would play ball. There are a few ways to contact them, they would probably suggest using their product forums. However, if you want a quicker repsonse find some Googlers on G+ and fire them a message. A good chunk of their bonus is based on the success of G+, so they are all desperate to make it work. If you find the right Googler from the products team you might be able to get some answers.
Cheers
David

What is the difference between external followed links and internal followed links.
I have almost 3,000 external links followed and only a tiny amount of internal followed links. My website is doing really badly on google at the mo. I am also an SEO beginner and learning new stuff every day, but am not sure exactly what the difference is! Thanks!

OSE shows links on sites but can't find links
Hi mozzers, I'm cleaning up our backlink profile and looking up anchortexts in OSE. I downloaded and selected one anchortext. However when I go to the sites OSE found, I can't find the links. I look in the source code and onpage keywords. Is it because of my lack of skills that I can't find the links 🙂 or isn't OSE working properly.

Getting a link from a blog on every page querying what OSE is suggesting
Hi Guys My client has been offered a link from someone within their industry on their blog. The blog has 20 categories and multiple (hundreds if not more pages within each category). The owner of the website has said that would be happy to give my client a link on each of their pages (including their homepage). They have done this for another couple of people who they like before, so I typed these domains into OSE and noticed that for each page it shows a link and also the page authority. Domain Authority of this blog giving the link is 71 Home Page PA - 76 About us PA - 60 it goes on.........the least PA being shown is 52 so lets for arguements sake say the other 18 or say categories are PA of 52 too. My question is surely the OSE is not accurate to imply that my client could be passed page authority from 18 categories at 52 each + home page of 76 + about me page of 60? Hopefully you understand the point I'm trying to make

Groups of Links?
If I have lets say 5 sites and I am able to negotiate a link on a highly ranking site for all five of them together would there be potential for penalty for linking them together on other sites as well?

Would you advise removing a "links" page?
I'm doing a site audit for someone and they have a links page full of reciprocal links for other similar businesses across the country. My gut instinct is to remove this page. How would you approach this if this was your client?

Removal of "bad" incoming links
I have had my site registered for a long time (since January 1995) and in that time we have built a good number of incoming links. We have a vendor database that we expose as a service to our visitors, which numbers around 5,500. These sites vary dramatically from low-end, Mom-and-Pop type web sites (some ugly in the extreme :)) to nationwide, established vendors. Back in the day, we had the basic tactic to request a link to our site if the vendor wanted to be listed in our vendor database. We stopped that practice years ago but still have many sites linking to us. The quality of some of these sites is very poor. I want to come up with a strategy for dealing with these. To that end, some questions: How "costly", from an SEO perspective, is a poor quality site that links to our site? What metric(s) should be used to assess the quality of sites linking to us? If possible, for the aforementioned metric is there a "bar" we might try to hit? For example, would it be useful to request removal of links where <metric>is less than x? What is x?</metric> Given that we have thousands to assess, is there any report I can create to identify these sites? Is it generally preferred to have vendors link simply to our home page or is it more effectice to have them link to particular pages on our site (each vendor can generally be associated with a "topic" on our site). In short, I am willing to go through this process if there is real value in it. Thanks. Mark
