Affilliate Marketing for local business? UK
-
Hi
Just a quick question for expert UK affiliates.
Would it be worthwhile in setting up a affiliate marketing campaign to get leads for windows, doors and conservatories for my small regional home improvement business?
If so what is the best way to approach this, contact the likes of affiliate window? and would they deal with a small regional firm such as mine, or would they only be interested in national firms such as anglian home or everest home improvements?
Many Thanks

I've no idea what would be a good commission rate in that sector. It's not an area I've worked. However, if competitors are on networks then that might provide some indication.
Tracking sales is very straightforward. You just need to drop a cookie whenever one of your affiliates sends a visitor and check those cookies when enquiries are made. Depending on how complex your systems are and what numbers you are working with reporting can get fiddly though.
There are lots of scripts out there that will do this all for you. We're big on custom building stuff, so I don't really know any of the 3rd party solutions well enough to mention by name. However there are a few and some seem to be quite well respected.
What sites would I target?
The regional focus means that I'd definitely start with local sites. I'd dig out a list of every town and city in my area and see which have local community sites and start finding contact details for them.

Hi Mat
How would you implement your last para - regarding the affiliate tracking without a network? What commission rates etc
And what sites would you target and how?
-
I definitely wouldn't use one of the networks for something with a regional focus. Despite the sales talk they don't do much to actually help you build the programme, mostly just administer it and allow you to use their existing network of affiliates.
The exception to that would be if you can see that there are lots of national sites with regional pages that you think you could be listed on and getting business from if you were part of an affiliate programme.
However it is quite cheap and easy to provide affiliate/referral tracking without a network. If you can contact the sites yourself and offer a commission on leads/sales you might do much better with a local market. Overhead will be lower and you might get better targeted sites and have an excuse to start building relationships with them.

UK Affiliate programmes as an advertiser
Hi, I'm looking into setting up an affiliate programme (as an advertiser). The company offers commercial mortgages for a UK market only. I was wondering if you had any experience with any UK affiliate platforms and had any recommendations? I want to test the water with a platform first as we don't really know whether it will work for us or not. We're looking at it for lead generation. Potentially offering payment on a completed mortgage or a lower payment per lead. I think it may be worthwhile offering both options. I'll have to work out the model, but we can make it work nicely for the publisher, I think. Thanks, Amelia

How to rank in google local listings with multiple entities?
I actually have a portal with multiple listings from different users. Every listing is a physical shop with a different address, but more than the half of them doesn't have a website. I was thinking on creating a local business for them and then add a link to my website in the section where google asks for your web address. Does anyone already made something similar? does google allows links to inner pages and from multiple domains? Do you have any other and better idea on how to show in local results if you're like an affiliate and not the direct owner of the shop? With google local listings crowding the serps it should be interesting to know how to fit in there.

Recommended affiliate programmes (particularly UK-based)?
I'm starting a photography/travel/music blog and thought it might be a good idea to stick the occasional affiliate link in when it's appropriate. Does anyone have any recommendations? The related items would mainly be to DVDs, books and music, and sometimes something more travel specific like flights. Are the programmes from the likes of Amazon and ebay good, or would it be better to sign up to a system that covers many companies? It'll be my own CMS if that makes any difference. Thanks. 🙂

Anyone Have Any Experience With Catch Marketing?
I was recently approached by Catch Marketing about a service they provide that uses a product data feed to create hundreds of pages with "unique" (algorithm generated) content on a subdomain of a website targeting long-tail keywords not already driving traffic to the site. It's an affiliate type setup with a commission-based fee structure. Admittedly not the most elegant solution to driving long-tail keyword traffic but my company is short on resources and long on revenue goals. I'm not really interested in hearing about creating awesome unique content written by a human as the better solution here; although I understand and aspire to those ideals the reality is that I have 60,000 products to market and I'm the only one who writes product content - after I tend to my other responsibilities. Has anyone used or heard of this service? Your feedback appreciated.

What are your biggest focuses for Internet Marketing in 2012? New Year's Goal?
We have seen a lot of shifting and movement in the search engines as of late. So I am curious as to what people are setting their sights on for 2012. And perhaps a top 3 would be appreciated. This is Internet Marketing goals, therefore SEO, Social Media, PPC, all count. Link Building? Schema.org? Facebook optimization? And try to be a little more specific like URL rewrites instead of just On-Site SEO.
