Ideal product page conversion/retention rate for eCommerce sites

Hi SEOmoz-ers,
I was wondering if anyone has data regarding product page abandonment rate (% of potential customers that leave the site after seeing product pages) for websites like Overstock, REI or Zappos?
As you may know the above mentioned sites do an exceptional job with product pages. It would be helpful to know what some of the leaders in this space are achieving in terms of conversion rate.
What is your personal opinion about this?

For one, I find it highly unlikely that any of these big players would ever publicly release anything related to that information. So I doubt there is much along the lines of conversion rates for sites you mentioned.
However, big sites like those, especially overstock, aren't worth looking at anyway. They sell products that range from less than $10 to over $1,000. Conversion rate is heavily influenced by price. A site that only sells pool tables will be lucky to get conversion rates above 1%. A site that sells T-shirts for $3 is likely to get north of 10% conversion rate.
So even if we knew a sitewide average conversion rate, it wouldn't tell us much as some product pages could be much higher and some could be much lower.

Do the clickable images on pages are bad that they will increase bounce rate and distract users?
Hi Moz community, I'm trying to get some helpful answers on this. We are planning to employ clickable images on our website pages which opens in new tab if users click on them. This is to make sure that they can see the large screenshots of our product. I wonder will this increase the bounce rate and drop the rankings. Please share your experience and guidance on this. Any possibility to track goal completions/conversions at a sub-page (non-landing page) level in Google Analytics?
We’re promoting our sub-page it's http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/london on our homepage under the slideshow so I need to see how many people went to the homepage, then went to this page, and then converted (enquired or booked.) What I can’t see is how many people did that. I know how to look up how many people landed on that page and then converted, but I need to know how many people navigated there and then converted. Is that possible? I can only see Goal Completions if I look at that page as a landing page, but that only presents a very slim view of the total visits when compared to those pages generally. Any way to check the entire behavior or activities happening through this page i.e. /flights/london?

Customer journey / customer drop off
Hi All, I would like to understand how visitors navigate through my site and find out where the main drop out areas are (i.e. what pages / sections of the site do users leave on). I will then be segmenting by mobile, tablet, new visitor, returning etc. to see how the various subsets of users behave. To do this I generally do the following: Identify main sections of the (ecomm) site: homepage, category pages, product pages, cart, checkout 1, checkout 2, checkout x, payment confirmation. For each section above I either use a segment to isolate that section of the site, either by regex or a simple page selector and apply to the Audience >> Overview report and record the resulting session count. OR I filter the Behaviour >> Site Content >> All Pages report to isolate the various site sections and record unique pageviews. I then plot these figures horizontally under a heading for each section of the site representing a flow between the pages of the site with a calculation showing the difference between each section of the site which represents user drop off. Hope that makes sense. What I am interested to know is, do you have any better suggestions to the process laid about above. Do you see any issues with this process?

Google Plus account - Should I use Brand or Product Type
Hi Let's assume that our company's name is "Smith Computers" and we specialize in Ultrabooks (for those who don't know - super light and slim computers - a niche within computers for the matter). Under which name would you open the Plus account - Smith Computers Ultrabooks Smith Ultrabooks Smith Ultrabooks Computers The example is not 100% but the question remains - No one knows Smith Computers and even if we turn up in search results for computers, the customers are not looking for our type products.

However, it is our brand name! Ultrabooks - I assume it will help us gain followers faster but will be hard to brand. The followers will be people who like the product and not the company but might be good people to sell to in the future. I'd say that option 3 is half branding and option 4 is 75% branding 🙂
Both will also have good chances to pop up in search results. The company at hand is a family owned business. We do not plan to rule the industry but rather taking it to the next level. We do not count on having thousands of people searching Google for "Smith Computers" like Best Buy etc. Please consider that at the end we want to use it both for promoting our brand (slowly) but also (and maybe mainly) SEO (by getting more people that click +1 onsite). We currently have lots of Facebook followers but naturally they only Like and not +1 Please help...0 -
Setting Up Ecommerce Tracking for Google Analytics?
Hello SEOmoz members, this is my first forum post, so i hope that it goes well. my question for today is, How can i set up set up Ecommerce Tracking for Google Analytics, if my website Does NOT use a Shopping Cart tool? I am currently SEO'ing a couple of Translation Service websites, and the Ordering System is a little different from the regular Shopping Cart tool that you would normally find on a Product website. so far i have added the analytics code to all the pages so i can track my SEO efforts, but is there no way to track the sales from each visitor if the website only provides Quotes? the website has a Quote form setup into 3 steps, and at the end of step 3, a general price is generated for the visitor and a CSR is supposed to contact them to completete the order. we can normally see the total orders and clients in our own system, but does anyone have any way to combine SEO with this information, like how google analytics Ecommerce can? if anyone could provide any helpful information, i would be very Greatful. thank you!

How to improve my conversions
Hey all, As always thanks in advance to any help given. So I think we haven't done a bad job, but I know there is always more that can be done with conversions. We have a website which provides guestlist to clubs in London, we are competitive on our keywords and ppc and get the clicks through with very very relevant adverts and meta descriptions.... The questions is 'How do I improve our conversion rate on page?' Duplicating Product Titles in the Page-Content
I have been debating this with a few others within my office and we would like an outside opinion on this issue. This screenshot is of a new product grid I have been designing. I have decided to try something new for SEO that I have seen elsewhere. (see attached image) The page-content below the last products on the page, now have a small paragraph that contains all the products "titles" that are visible on the page. The intention is to capitalize on multiple search terms by using modifiers to replace special character sets within the title. For example: 46" 3 Seat Perforated Square Picnic Table = 46 Inch 3 Seat Perforated Square Picnic Table Not only does this give a secondary search term that could convert but increases the number if instances of "Table" within the page.
