How do I get Google to rank the right page?
-
My site ranks #1 for Arabic Interpreting on Google UK. This great, but it's ranking my home page rather than the my specific Arabic Interpreting page.
The home page shouldn't really rank for this term as it has very little connection with this exact term. This means that while the site ranks great, the conversion is pretty much zero.
How can I get Google to rank the page I've optimised for this term? I know the ranking will no doubt slip but may the conversions will be better.
Can you help please?

Thanks for the great answers. My problem is that my home page http://www.global-lingo.com/ has no reference to Arabic Interpreting at all. My Arabic Interpreting page http://www.global-lingo.com/interpreting-services/arabic-language-interpreted according to SEOMoz's own tools is nearly perfectly optimised for the term I want to rank for. Unless I'm missing something really obvious.
I guess my best option is to build back links to the page in the vague hope that Google changes it's mind. As you can see from my site I'm trying to rank with targeted pages for a whole host of Translation and interpreting terms. Some work really well and other not so. Any advice would be appreciated.

Richard,
There is some good advice here and I would add a suggestion. Look at your meta description for each page. If you were searching for Arabic interpreting and both were there as the only choices, which would you choose?
If, more people click through to your site based on a good meta description, i believe you will see an increase in ranking for that page. Remember, if the meta description sends them there, they need to find similar on the page or they will bounce.
Also, I looked at US search and then UK and find that Arabic interpreting is searched less than interpretation which is less than interpreters. Also, it seems that translation, translating, etc are used more than interpret. You may know this already and have a plan for ranking on those as well, but something you might try is to use "... for Arabic interpreting/translating here in the ...." in your meta desc.
Be interesting to see affect.
Best,

Hey Richard
I get this page on Google UK for that term:
http://arabtrans.com/interpretation.html
Guessing that is not you so a link may help but the quick and dirty answer is.
1. Make your Arabic Interpreting Page more relevant for that term (internal anchors + on page)
2. Make your homepage less relevant for that term
Then, yep, do a bit of guest posting, quality blog commenting or some such and build some relevance for that page.
That said, I am seeing different results to you so have you tried this query in an incognito search window or some such as you may be seeing personalised results.
Let me know how you get on and will try to feed back more.

Are you able to change any of the current links with pertinent keywords to the inner page? That's a good first step. The real solution would be link building to the inner page for relevant keywords. Adding a couple more links from the homepage to the inner page would also help if done correctly.
As a quick fix, you can do two things. The most logical would be to show a flyout advertisement-like block that links to the inner page from the homepage. This will make sure anyone looking for Arabic interpreting will at least be able to get converted in the mean time. The alternative would be to get referrer data and automatically redirect, assuming referrer data is available (it may not be, in the majority of cases).

You would have to target backlinks more towards your specific page. While doing that, I would focus on your home page to help increase conversions. Maybe put a quick form on there, or a easy way to get to your specific page.

We changed our domain, I used the move tool in Google Search Console and I am having our site redirected and go daddy, and now I spoke with someone who suggest we do a 301 redirect for all pages on our site and I’m not sure that’s the correct move.
We just changed our domain name after 15 years. when I bought the new domain name I called Go Daddy and they instructed me to contact my google G sweet admin account and change all of our emails over which I did and then I went into Shopify who is my host and changed my primary domain there and then I went back to Go Daddy and had my old website forwarded to my new site. since then there has been nothing but problems with Google. my product feed from my merchant center account has been suspended three or four times now, I tried to rename and move all of my Google accounts from my old domain to my new one, but I am not an SEO person... after making the changes I have started google chats with analytics department with the merchant center with Google as they all keep saying that it looks fine but I’m not convinced because the product feed keeps getting disapproved. So I posted an ad for help and the Guy I spoke with suggested I do a 301 redirect for every single page on my old site, But I’m concerned that might confuse things further? I’ve already started the move in Google Search console And in Shopify I added the old domain back into the domains section and am having it redirectEd that way too... I guess I’m just looking to know which way I should proceed, any and all advice is warmly welcome thank you in advance Maureen

App Store Optimization - Google Play Console A/B Testing: Should I Optimize for Active Devices or Users
Can't seem to find any ASO type of communities to ask this question to and since the Moz community has been so helpful, I thought I'd try this out. I've been doing A/B Testing for featured graphics on the Google Play Store. There are segments of active devices and users and I've been keeping track daily for ~1.5 months. The data that I have written down displays that active devices shows a positive, however users show a negative. Google Play Console choose to display the scaled installs for active devices. When we do A/B Tests on Google Play Console, should we choose the winner based on the active devices or users?

Any possibility to track goal completions/conversions at a sub-page (non-landing page) level in Google Analytics?
We’re promoting our sub-page it's http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/london on our homepage under the slideshow so I need to see how many people went to the homepage, then went to this page, and then converted (enquired or booked.) What I can’t see is how many people did that. I know how to look up how many people landed on that page and then converted, but I need to know how many people navigated there and then converted. Is that possible? I can only see Goal Completions if I look at that page as a landing page, but that only presents a very slim view of the total visits when compared to those pages generally. Any way to check the entire behavior or activities happening through this page i.e. /flights/london?

Google Adwords Offered to Redesign My Website & A/B Test... Thoughts?
I received a call from the Google Adwords team today offering to redesign major pages of my website & A/B test their design against mine. The rep said that this is not a standard service they offer and that we had been "selected". Despite it's overt marketing overtones, I would hate to pass by the opportunity to apply Google's conversion insight to my site. Has anyone experienced this before? Good experience? Bad experience?

Optimising /product/ pages for our 15,000 product ecommerce store.
Hi guys! We're constantly working on evolving our /product/ pages on the site, however some times it's pretty easy to get lost in your own mess. Especially when the sites consists of 15,000+ products. So it's pretty painful to handcraft every single page. So I thought I'd jump in here to see if anyone had any suggestions for stuff we're missing, and or should improve? These are product pages: http://www.warcom.com.au/products/9954_draytek-vigor-120-single-port-adsl-122-modem http://www.warcom.com.au/products/49884_warcom-deluxe-double-lcd-monitor-stand---free-shipping There is a few issues we're aware of already.. Negatives: To many links in the left menus. To many links in the footer. Positives: We recently included rich snippets.. We're always testing out colors and styles. We're always testing meta data. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does the word next to domain gives more relevancy to the page of it's URL?
Whether putting a (category or brand) word next to domain is better than on the end of an URL? (i.e. domain.com/sony/tvs or domain.com/tv/sony) Which one would get higher result on SERP "tv" or "sony" in both cases? Or maybe they both serves the same?
