How can I boost page rank rather quickly
-
I have had a site for 10+ years and recently decided to really put a lot of effort into boosting its page rank. In the last 2 months, I have
1. participated in forums
2. gotten a number of reasonably high ranking websites in my industry to link to my page i.e. creating 100's of external, do-follow back-links
3. created some external websites which are subject matter specific to my industry that are pointing back to my website. At this point, these sites do not have much in the way of page authority
So far, my sites Alexa ranking has increased considerably from a rank of ~20M to ~1.7M worldwide. How do I go about increasing my page rank / mozRank equally as quickly?
Having done a campaign of the competition, I noticed that most of their links are internal i.e. 750k+ which is nothing more than noise because they are not offering anymore information/products that we're offering. Moreover, we have duplicated all of their external links and then some. Finally, they have created a number of 'feeder' sites that all point back to them each with a page rank of 4. This is were they are obtaining the bulk of their 20k+ external links.
What do you suggest that I do that I have not done already?

1. participated in forums careful!
2. gotten a number of reasonably high ranking websites in my industry to link to my page i.e. creating 100's of external, do-follow back-links excellent keep doing this!
3. created some external websites which are subject matter specific to my industry that are pointing back to my website. At this point, these sites do not have much in the way of page authority don't do this! It is site spamming
What do you suggest that I do that I have not done already?
remove any links that are on your site that are pointing to other sites if you don't need them, they are leaking the PR of your site.

Thanks for the response, Keri.
I'm focusing on the page rank because the competition does not offer anything differently that what we offer. They do not have original, unique content anymore than what's hosted on our site. In fact, we offer certain services and tutorials that are beyond their expertise. I know that creating original content is imperative, but that's not how they obtained a page rank of 6.
The other reason I focus on page rank has to do with key word searches. These guys come up all the time which translates into a financial windfall for them. Somehow, they have gotten the search engines to focus on some key words that our customers and their customers use to get the services we respectively offer. Without that visibility, we will struggle.
Any advice that you can shed some light on as to 'what to do now' would be appreciated.

To be honest, I would focus on my users and conversions. Not one word has been said about traffic, if people are doing what you want them to, if you have unique content on your site, if you're offering anything of value to your users, etc.
Why the focus on Page Rank as a metric?

# of links and how it impacts ranking
Hi everyone I was running a competitor analysis in Moz Pro of my site and 3 competitors that are ranked above me. One of the things I noticed is that my # of total links is very high compared to 2 of my competitors(please see attachment). Other seo tools are telling me the same. This is mainly due to a few affiliate sites that have us in their footer. I was wondering if this could impact our ranking if some of these sites have very low domain authority and have thousands of backlinks to our site? I am looking into starting the disavowing process. Competitor Ranks Top Keywords Without Backlinks
One of my competitors is ranking very well for many different competitive keywords (1k+ searches per month). I'm trying to figure out how in the world he is ranking so well. I've signed up for MozPro and looked at his back-links. He has 1 branded site-wide back-link from a decent blog. He also has 1 contextual back-link from a decent blog. Other than these 2 back-links, the rest are garbage links unlikely to even count for anything (he has maybe 12 of these low quality back-links). My website on the other hand has more than 15 back-links from different (high quality) websites and does not rank anywhere near this competitor. This leads me to believe that either MozPro back-link reporting is inadequate or there is foul-play on the part of my competitor. As far as on-page SEO is considered, his website is far inferior. Therefore, I highly doubt this would play a role. What are some reasonable approaches I can take to better understand the cause of this discrepancy. Clearly the back-link reporting has not revealed any answers.

Why would a newly created site, have ranked ahead of our site for keyword that we are optimized for?
This newly created site has a DA of 1 and PA of 1, no backlinks, no optimized urls, the keyword they ranked better than us on was listed a total of 6 times on the homepage. Our PA is 29 and DA is 18 for the page that ranks for this keyword. They really copied a few elements of our site but made sure to change a few things, but also list at the bottom of their site 5 keywords that are crucial to our niche industry but they're all linking to the same page. Any ideas? It's an SEO guy running the site, we've watched them toy with adwords trying to be number 1, but not liking the price, so they are here and there with it. Mainly I don't see why they'd rank better for this keyword, we our site have prolly 500% more content that's both of quality and relevance to our customers, in the form of Pdfs, infographics, help sections, and video. Very baffled here, any advice would rock!

How can I find out the exact match visitors for a competitor's website?
Hi, I'm trying to find a way of finding out the estimated number of exact match visitors that a competitor's website has got. I know that SEO agencies can find this out, and there must be a way of doing this for myself. Thanks

Another how the *%#^ is this site ranking question
I saw a question posted by someone a while back asking how a certain (in their opinion crappy) site was ranking in the top then. It happened that there were some good reasons for that site ranking. Well.... I have stumbled on a site that seems to be ranking for (almost) no reason at all: relatively low DA/PA very few inbound links (none seem to be that special) thin content The only thing I can think of, is that the site has the keyword in the domain name. But looking at the search results, there are other domains with exact match keyword in URL and somewhat stronger metrics that don't rank.

How on earth can http://www.plimun.com/ be at #6 for "web design", with only 15 total linking root domains, and no mention of the term in link text?! See: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons?site=www.plimun.com This is one of the biggest anomalies I've ever seen.
