Should I optimise our products for Singlular and Plural?

I know this is an age old quesion, however i have read many posts that all have differing views. As a compnay we sell towels and bathrobes. All our products can be searched for in there singluar and plural, each getting in some cases unique traffic, however both would lead to somone looking to buy.
So the question in my case, if i am optimising pages for towels, should I also optimse title tags, meta descriptions and so on for the singluar as well? The luxury with most of our keyword phrases is that they can be incorperated nicely into descriptions in both plural and singluar.

So I am best of finding some phrases that are more targetd and going to pull in traffic with a higher conversion rate than wasting time on terms that as you say are going to near on impossible to rank for. Having said that top spot in the UK only has a DA of 43.
I think i'll focus on the terms that are more targeted rather than spending time optimising for keywords that are going to be tough to rank well for.
We do have a big update to teh site that going to give us functionality and something over the competition that will allow us to go after wholesale orders online which opens a massive door across many markets.

It's all relative. I define "ranking well" as appearing in the top 5 search results for a given keyword. For the most part, if you do not rank on the first page, you may as well not exist. There are exceptions. If you can attract 1% of the search volume for a term with a million searches per month, that is 10k hits which is a significant amount of traffic. You might gain that traffic with your position on page 2 of SERPs.
When I examine the results for "towel" and "towels" in Google.com, I see the Wiki result on the first page of both searches. The results are filled with very well known brands: target, macy's, amazon, home depot, bed bath and beyond, pottery barn, etc. The first result which does not have "towel" in the domain name that also does not have a DA of 8x+ is on the 3rd page. In order for you to reach the first page of SERPs you will frankly need to have a very well designed site, exceptional content, and earn links from quality sources.

OK, so looking at towel/ towels, towel is more aimed at information sources (wikipedia etc) so I am better to optimise for towels. Presumably if I optimise for "buy towels" or "Bathroom Towels" There is still the possibility that i will rank well for towels/ towel I guess?

In order to decide which form of the keyword is best, you need to perform keyword research. There are many factors involved.
Using Google's Keyword Tool you can gain a rough idea of the traffic for each keyword.
Towel = 1,500,000 monthly searches in Google.com US
Towels = 1,220,000
Bathrobe = 368,000
Bathrobes = 246,000
So the initial data indicates the singular versions would be best. But you need to go much further in your research. The next question is where would your optimized page appear in search results? It may be better to appear higher in SERPs for a result with lower traffic then the other way around.
With respect to your title tags, yes it is very important they are included in your optimization efforts. The meta description is not a ranking factor so your goal is to choose whatever text you feel will offer the best click-through-rate.
You should also consider a searcher's intent. A keyword such as "buy towels" is likely to have a much higher conversion rate then simply "towels".

How does product category description affect SEO?
Hi - we are a website that sells tours. We have category pages that list the tours in that category (by city, by length of time, theme, etc). At the top of each category page, before the buttons linking to the tours, there is a category description. It is a pretty long paragraph. We are redesigning the website and think it would look nicer to show 2-3 lines of text and then have a down arrow and 'read' more so people can click and it would expand to show the full category description if they want to read it and it won't take up so much room that way. My question is - will this affect SEA at all? Or because the text is still there, just hidden, it won't do anything? Our site ranks very high in organic searches on google and we do not want to do anything that will hurt SEO. thanks.

Best Practices for Title Tags for Product Listing Page
My industry is commercial real estate in New York City. Our site has 300 real estate listings. The format we have been using for Title Tags are below. This probably disastrous from an SEO perspective. Using number is a total waste space. A few questions:

-Should we set listing not no index if they are not content rich?
-If we do choose to index them, should we avoid titles listing Square Footage and dollar amounts?
-Since local SEO is critical, should the titles always list New York, NY or Manhattan, NY?
-I have red that titles should contain some form of branding. But our company name is Metro Manhattan Office Space. That would take up way too much space. Even "Metro Manhattan" is long. DO we need to use the title tag for branding or can we just focus on a brief description of page content incorporating one important phrase? Mass Referencing Supplier Product Info & SEO
Hi I have a mass referencing project which will mean taking between 1000-2000 SKUs from a supplier, taking all their content & loading it onto our site. I need to make a case for not doing this from an SEO perspective. As these are pages I want to rank. I'm going to push for optimising titles/meta titles before they're loaded in. However if not, I may be forced to load in the products as they are & go back to optimise everything - does anyone see a real issue with this? I know there are so many 'similar' descriptions of products on ecommerce sites & across the web, so how does Google deal with these? The pages won't be identical as the templates are different, but maybe 100-200 words of descriptions could be until we work through them. Although this isn't ideal - what are the implications? The problem for me is, the managers just want the products on the site, without much thought regarding organic traffic/categorisation initially. Thanks!

Ecommerce Site - Duplicate product descriptions & SKU pages
Hi I have a couple of questions regarding the best way to optimise SKU pages on a large ecommerce site. At the moment we have 2 landing pages per product - one is the primary landing page with no SKU, the other includes the SKU in the URL so our sales people & customers can find it when using the search facility on the site. The SKU landing page has a canonical pointing to the primary page as they're duplicates. Is this the best way? Or is it better to have the one page with the SKU in the URL? Also, we have loads of products with the very similar product descriptions, I am working on trying to include a unique paragraph or few sentences on these to improve the content - how dangerous is the duplicate content within your own site? I know its best to have totally unique content, but it won't be possible on a site with thousands of products and a small team. At the moment I am trying to prioritise the products to update. 301 Externally Linked, But Non-Producing Pages, To Productive Pages Needing Links?
I'm working on a site that has some non-productive pages without much of an upside potential, but that are linked-to externally. The site also has some productive pages, light in external links, in a somewhat related topic. What do you think of 301ing the non-productive pages with links to the productive pages without links in order to give them more external link love? Would it make much of a difference? Thanks... Product discontinued
Hi there, We have ranking top 3 for a competitive keyword, however the product linked to that keyword has just been discontinued, normally if we have alternatives to this product I would keep this page live and direct users to those alternatives products. What is best practice here? keeping the page live and telling users that this product has been discontinued and offering a helpline number? or just removing the page all together? (404) Thanks
