How can I resolve a duplicate page issue?
-
I have (an attached) report that shows duplicate content for a blog page and I'm not sure how to resolve the issue.
The blog/website is hosted on wordpress.org, maybe it's something to do with having to add categories or tags - can anyone help please?

Hi Mark,
Nope none of the above - and what you see is exactly the report I get from SEO Moz. And like you I can't identify where the duplicate content is.
Short of deleting the blog page (and consequently the multiple URL's) I'm not sure what else to do?

I am having my own problems with Wordpress tags, categories, authors and archiving generating duplicate content errors. Google is likely seeing the same page through the multiple lenses of tags, categories, authors and archives and seeing the same content.
I've been spending a great deal of time reducing tags and categories, which reduced duplicate content but also brought up a lot of new 404 errors to deal with. I have also been adding unique descriptions and titles for all my tags and categories conforming to Google title and description requirements.
I'm not done by far but I am closer to the finish line.

On your attachment I didnt see where there was duplicate content....
There are several ways you can fix it, depending on what the issue is.
The most common issue we see is the title and/or meta tag description. Alot of times with wordpress and some of the seo plug ins, these are auto filled in and it could be filled in with exactly the same information.
Another thing we see is it is the same content. We see people that manage a blog and will double post the same article by accident. make sure it isnt that.
Another thing is it could be someone that posted the blog in multiple blogs or someone "scraped" the blog and published it somewhere else and it is being picked up by google as duplicate content.
Hope this helps. If so, let us know...
Mark

I know there has been a lot of discussion lately about FAQs pages and I'm wondering when and if they are still warranted useful and what if they have positive or negative effects on page rankings. Regards, John Brown

Duplicate Forum Content
HI everyone, great to be here, absolutely loving everything, please go easy on me I'm quite a noob when it comes to seo, but hopefully my question isn't too basic. After running the initial checks on my websites, I found there are 7,646 duplicate pages? Some are easy fixes but the majority are not, being forum pages, the edit, quote and new post links are coming up as duplicates of the main post? Does anyone know how to fix this? Best Lee

Google Slower to Trust New Pages than One Year Ago?
It seems to me that Google is slower to trust (and rank) new pages today than in the past. I used to be able to put up a new page and it would go right to the top of a competitive SERP. For about the past year when I launch a new page it starts deep in the SERPs, sits there for a few weeks, then starts slowly moving up. These pages still eventually rank on the first page of Google - often at #1 or #2 after wikipedia or another strong site - but it can take a few months to get there, several months in a competitive SERP. These are not "hot news" topics where freshness is an important factor. Instead they are product pages or general information articles. Anybody else seeing this? [ Just stabbing in the dark here... I am wondering if Google is relying more on visitor behavior these days and the delay is while they collect data?... Just stabbing in the dark.]

Content Curation & Duplicate Content
Hi, I have a client that wants to do content curation but it has been my understanding that adding external content that is already live on another website to your website, you get penalized for duplicate content. I have read that you can create an excerpt and then Google won't penalizes you for duplicate content. Can anyone shed more light on this topic. Thanks

Is putting introduction to new stories on the front page a good idea
Hi, i am trying to find out if i should be putting all the introduction to new stories on the front page of my magazine www.in2town.co.uk. I am not sure if to just put certain stories on the home page or if it would be better for seo reasons to put everything on the front page for the search engines to pick it up quickly. so for example, all health stories, all news stories and all lifestyle stories that have their own section, should i make sure that they all appear on the home page as an introduction. Or should i have them kept in their own section please do let me know

Resolving duplicate text issues with a duplicate image?
We are a listing site for programs overseas. Many of our listings are inherently the same content, because in many cases the same exact information applies. We have resolved duplicate content issues to some extent by making some of the content in these listings unique. However, for the rest of the content which is going to be the same for about 100 pages, we were wondering if its better to have an image in place instead of duplicate text content (this would basically be an image of the text in question). We know this is a problem, because this is inherently duplicate content as well (only its a duplicate image instead of duplicate text). However, what's the best solution to this problem, and is a duplicate image just asking for trouble, or might this actually be a good idea?
