Multiple Google+ Local (Google Place) under one email address
-
As a automotive dealership group, we have 15+ business listings set up under one Google+ local account. Google+ Local (Google Places) offers the ability to upload a data file for 10+ listings, so we've kept all listings under one login for efficiency.
Is there any specific local SEO benefit or any general benefit at all to having each business listing set up under their own separate email address?

Hi Again Autoczar,
Yes, so ideally, you'd have domain-based email accounts for the different businesses if one is Lexus San Francisco and the other is Toyota San Francisco, if you're dealing with separate websites and separate NAP for the different businesses. If all of your businesses were Autoczar Lexus across 15 different cities, it would be most correct to have a single account to rule them all, but it sounds like there is a genuine difference in the dealerships.
I would definitely wait for the merge before doing anything, because I think there is likely to be some fallout from that and you'll want to see where you stand once it goes through. Then, you might consider transferring ownership to separate accounts for the Lexus dealerships vs. the Toyota ones, but as I've said, this will not be 'fun' to do.

Thanks for your helpful & quick response.
The 15+ business listings are individual dealership locations (ie Lexus of City Name & Toyota of City Name) are all currently grouped within one login so I (the dealership group's SEO guru) can manage all the information/implement best-practices from one single login.
We are debating setting up different @dealerdomain.com accounts if there is a SEO benefit. I am wondering how the Google+ & Google+ Local merging will happen regarding dashboard admin, so I'll wait to do anything until after that happens.
You confirmed what I was looking for, "There is no SEO benefit, at least not that I've ever heard of, of going with one account vs. multiple accounts in this scenario...."
And you are correct, separating out the Google+ Local from the multi-account setup is a big job if we decide to go the domain-based email address direction. We are currently weighing the pros & cons related to, "Google apparently trusts the domain-based email address to be more authoritative."
Any further insights appreciated.

Hi Autoczar,
I want to be certain that I'm correctly understanding your business model. Are you saying that you are currently controlling 15 different auto dealerships with distinct NAP (name, address, phone number) and distinct websites from a single email address? Or, are you talking about a franchise (different address and phone number, but all businesses are called 'Joe's Auto Showroom' and owned by you)?
If the first, then having each business claimed from a separate account would be preferable for the reason that Google has stated that there is a trust signal in having a domain name email address on the account. So, it's better to claim and control Joe's Auto Showroom with the email address joe@joesautoshowroom than it would be to claim it with bill@billscaremporium.com. Google apparently trusts the domain-based email address to be more authoritative.
If the second, and you are managing a franchise, then keeping all the eggs is one basket is the smarter choice in many cases, most particularly for ease of management. In this way, you, the owner, have control over how all data is managed. In some instances, however, franchises make each franchise partner responsible for his own web presence, including claiming and management of a Google+ Local page. Problems can arise in this situation when partners don't understand best practices, of course, but that all really depends on what each partner has been taught about Local SEO. There is no SEO benefit, at least not that I've ever heard of, of going with one account vs. multiple accounts in this scenario, but there is definitely a consideration of ease of management.
Now, all this having been said, if your accounts are currently set up one way, and you are going to change that in whatever direction, be prepared for a big job on your hands and possible wonky outcomes. Google is almost comically ham-fisted when it comes to business owners updating data - even a simple thing like a change of phone number can cause months or years of problems for the business owner, so my advice is to think this over very carefully and proceed with caution. Good luck!
Miriam

Homepage disappeared from Google
Hello, Since 2 weeks, our website is losing positions in Google. After years on the first page, we dropped for our main keyword to the 3rd page. Seems that all the positions we lost, were ranking with the homepage. Now, we are on the 3rd page but with a less important page. How is it possible that only the homepage disappeared? Is there any explanation for that? I hope there is an explanation, so we can fix the trouble. Kind regards, Tine

Pull multiple link data for multiple pages at once?
Hi guys, I was wondering if there is a tool or way to pull link data for a list of URLs/Pages at once to one single file with ahrefs or majestic. I know scrapebox can do this with OSE, but looking for a way to do this with the other backlink databases. Any ideas? Cheers. Can I Use Multiple rel="alternate" Tags on Multiple Domains With the Same Language?
Hoping someone can answer this for me, as I have spent a ton of time researching with no luck... Is there anything misleading/wrong with using multiple rel="alternate" tags on a single webpage to reference multiple alternate versions? We currently use this tag to specify a mobile-equivalent page (mobile site served on an m. domain), but would like to expand so that we can cover another domain for desktop (possibly mobile in the future). In essence: MAIN DOMAIN would get The "Other Domain" would then use Canonical to point back to the main site. To clarify, this implementation idea is for an e-commerce site that maintains the same product line across 2 domains. One is homogeneous with furniture & home decor, which is a sub-set of products on our "main" domain that includes lighting, furniture & home decor. Any feedback or guidance is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Requesting New Custom URL for Google+ Local Business Page
This question is about the new custom URLs for Google+ Local Business pages: Has anyone heard any success stories with requesting a custom URL different than the two reserved ones offered by Google via contacting a Google Rep by phone? And what advantages might there be for a local business to go with a very long custom URL such asgoogle.com/+rosenbergAndDalgrenLLPFortLauderdale as opposed to just google.com/+RdLawyers? Does having the city name in the URL offer any <acronym title="Search Engine Optimization">SEO</acronym> benefit? Thanks!

% of the time you find email addresses - broken link building
Hello, What percentage of the time do you find an exact email address of the person to contact when doing broken link building? And what do you do if you can't find an email address? Always interested in more tools if I need them, my last post here brought out several good tools. Thank you.

How to Block Google Preview?
Hi, Our site is very good for Javascript-On users, however many pages are loaded via AJAX and are inaccessible with JS-off. I'm looking to make this content available with JS-off so Search Engines can access them, however we don't have the Dev time to make them 'pretty' for JS-off users. The idea is to make them accessible with JS-off, but when requested by a user with JS-on the user is forwarded to the 'pretty' AJAX version. The content (text, images, links, videos etc) is exactly the same but it's an enormous amount of effort to make the JS-off version 'pretty' and I can't justify the development time to do this. The problem is that Googlebot will index this page and show a preview of the ugly JS-off page in the preview on their results - which isn't good for the brand. Is there a way or meta code that can be used to stop the preview but still have it cached? My current options are to use the meta noarchive or "Cache-Control" content="no-cache" to ask Google to stop caching the page completely, but wanted to know if there was a better way of doing this? Any ideas guys and girls? Thanks FashionLux

How Does SEO Help Local Businesses
Hello, I recently took a position as a digital marketing manger with a advertising agency. Its my job to grow the digital marketing department. One of the issues I am running into is 90% of our clients are local businesses. When doing keyword research it is very difficult to find keywords with lots of search. For example, if I am optimizing for a Ford dealership in Hackensack,NJ there are not a lot of searches for this term. How can I justify a larger SEO budget when there is just not a lot of search volume for these keywords? This is nothing like Dog Training Videos or something similar. Am I missing something? Where can I pull traffic from for local businesses to justify larger SEO budgets? Thanks, Bill

Custom Attributes in Google Places
Hi Guys I'm looking for some clarity of what I can and can't add to the custom attribute fields in a Google Places listing. From my understanding, you can add additional information about your services, but not what those services are. The issue I'm trying to resolve is that a client of mine offers far more than the 5 services/ category options Places allow. They are a home services company, covering all sorts from plumbing, painting and decorating, through to extensions etc. They have about 25 different services. At the moment I'm restricted to just getting rankings for 5 services (correlated to the categories in Places), when I'd like to rank locally for them all. As Google is showing local results for most search queries related to their services whether those searches are geographically modified or not, I'm in a position where even if I am ranking top 5 organically for the terms, I'm still on bottom of page 1, or top of page 2. Would it be wise to add these additional services to the custom attributes section of the Places listing, or would this set off the potential for a listing suspension? Any ideas how to combat this problem would be very welcome.
