Domains and sub domains - newbie
-
Hi
Recently set up my SEOM MOZ account so any help would be great!
On the competitive domain analysis page the sub domain metrics appear as good (if not better) then the domain. The Moz rank and trust are better on the sub domain.
I know the website copy is appearing on both non-www and also www (which I assume is being referred to as the subdomain) on the competitor domain analysis page).
Should I now 301 the WWW site to the non-www.... which will then concentrate the SEO and SEOMoz then will only have the root domain metrics appearing?
Many thanks for your help in advance!

I would second that. You also want to consider any other possible variations including things like /index.php or /index.html which might also resolve to your homepage. All of these should be redirected to a single version to avoid duplicate content issues.

Hi and welcome!
Yes, definitely redirect one to the other (either www to non-www or the other way around) using .htaccess. Otherwise you run the risk of duplicate content.

Duplicate Content for Default Document Domains
I've noticed recently that within the Moz Crawl Report I keep seeing duplicate content for one of our pages that pulls from a default document. The pages are product pages, one ending in releases/ and the other ending in releases/index and are both identical pages. Normally in these situations I would prefer to make sure that every link is being sent to the releases/ page, however according to Moz, the releases/index page is actually ranking better and has a higher internal link count. Can someone advise me on the best way to deal with this situation? Hopefully I've explained myself well enough! Thanks Sam

Why do the competitive link analysis numbers not match the domain analysis?
There is only one area that our competitor out ranks us and that is in the total links on the root domain. But when i go to competitive link analysis we have more links then they do. Any ideas?

What is more important, page authority or linking root domains?
I have 2 pages in my report that are identical: www.ferringway.com (more page authority......21 vs. 1) www.ferringway.com/index.php (more linking root domains...... 40 vs. 21) Which one should I delete or should I do something like a 301 redirect? Your help is greatly appreciated! Sheryl

Where has my Domain Authority gone?
Currently my Domain Authority is at 36, I believe earlier this week it was at 39 and a few months ago it was 41 but I have no way of checking the Domain Authority history. Why would my website's Domain Authority go down like this? I was hit pretty hard (well not so hard compared to other sites, but It feels pretty hard) by Panda 2.0 and I have been making many changes. However, I am 301 redirecting the few removed pages. All paginated pages (page 2,3 etc of each category) I have changed to "noindex, follow" meta tags. For all "thin content' pages I am also using "noindex, follow". And all possible duplicated content I am also using "noindex, follow". So the link juice should still be flowing. So where is my domain authority going? Thanks!

Page Authority vs Domain Authority
I'm hoping this is a quick and simple question. Sometimes when using the open site explorer or the keyword difficulty tool i find that some pages have a higher "page authority" than the "domain authority." That seemed odd to me, is there a correlation between the two? You would think by default as you grow your page authority the domain authority increases as well? So i guess my question would be, what happens on a page to give it a higher page authority than domain authority?
