Magic UVs - PPC landing pages delivering organic traffic by magic...
-
I have checked and double checked this.
GA is showing over the last couple of weeks mysite.com/ppc/landingpage1 as a landing page for organic traffic, where it shouldn't.
Main facts:
- The entire /ppc/ folder is blocked from the googlebot, and doesn't appear on any internal site maps. As far as I can tell, these pages have never been cached for the main index.
- I cannot recreate any of the organic searches myself (i.e. typing in keywords that triggered the traffic, even the almost unique long-tail ones). We just don't appear in the organic listings with these pages.
- The analytics and adwords accounts are linked. We are not paying for this mystery traffic through our PPC - these keywords are not appearing in our AdWords account (though other keywords / traffic are).
- The traffic is real - we have received phone calls from these pages, tracked to the visits recorded as organic
These pages should only receive PPC traffic. They are receiving organic traffic also, but I can't recreate it. Can anyone suggest what's going on? I'm concerned about duplicate content issues and also skewing the analysis of the PPC campaign.
Thanks

I must admit, this one has me stumped. It sounds like there's some sort of tracking issue going on, but who knows.
Did you ever get this figured out?

I realize you're probably not going to like this response, but, I would recommend not having separate landing pages for PPC. Here's a few reasons why:
1. You don't need it. You can analyze how organic traffic with the exact same keywords performs against PPC traffic on the same page.
2. You're now testing/optimizing 2 sites instead of 1.
3. It causes wary users to trust you less when they realize they're landing on different pages of your site when in each case, they've come from Google.
4. There's evidence that having your organic result and your PPC result go to the same page actually increases conversions, although it is hotly debated.
5. You're going to deal with a lot of duplicate content issues.
Edit: to answer your actual question, are you blocking organic traffic from those PPC pages via robots.txt? Robots.txt only blocks crawling of the content on the page, not the URL itself, so if your PPC page has a keyword rich URL, organic users are still going to find it.

A couple of thoughts:
Is this organic traffic definitely from Google, not from another search engine that you may may not have blocked?
Alternatively, could there be a problem with the tracking parameters getting stripped out of the URLs?

Does Search Console data include GMB traffic? Branded CTR is 37.8%- Good or Bad?
Hey all, Per Search Console our branded keyword CTR is 37.8%. But when that keyword is searched our GMB listing shows up on top of the #1 result. For the same 90 day period GMB shows another 35% visits to our GMB (based on the number of impressions and visits to our GMB page) listing when the same keyword is searched. My question is this. Does Search console data include clicks that came from our GMB listing or not? My thinking is like this: If GMB traffic is not calculated in search console then it means that 72.8% of people looking for our brand will end up on our site on way or another 9organic #1 result plus GMB listing visits) We are also doing PPC for this very keyword that has gets almost 20% of the remaining traffic. So after adding all up we are loosing about 8% of our branded traffic to people who are doing adwords. When you search our brand you normally see 2, 3 competitor's adwords ads. Does anyone know how this works exactly? And if you don't mind sharing your branded keyword CTR's, so I can compare to ours please. I would love to compare to a site that actually has a GMB listing ranking for the same keyword Thanks in advance, Davit

Do modal pop-ups impact the Google Analytics of the host page?
We have an instance of a page where visitors can click a button to start an interactive quiz. The quiz pops up in a modal window that references another domain (the interactive content provider). Will the person completing the quiz in the modal pop-up still be counted as an active visitor on the original host page during the time they are completing the quiz?

Referral Traffic from Google
Hello, I have a question about my company's new website. I've worked in SEO and studied Google Analytics results for a few years now but have never really come across something like this. I started in this position in January of this year and when I started breaking down the traffic sources in Google Analytics, I noticed most of the traffic was coming from Google.com as a referral source. I had never seen Google.com as a referral source before so I looked into options for what it could be. It was not a paid ad and our organic traffic was coming through in Analytics, Before I could get any further, our new website was launched (we switched CRM's to WordPress) and the referral traffic from google went from 2,966 in January of 2015 to 22 in February 2015. for more comparison, in February of 2014, the referral traffic from Google was 2,496. I expected a drop when we switched CRM's but we correctly re-directed all pages and created a new sitemap and our organic traffic is up since the switch (not enough to cover drop in referral). I thought at first this had to do with our Google sellers account being de-activated when we made the switch, but I quickly fixed this over a month ago and no change. I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen Google.com come through as a referral source in Google Analytics and if they we're able to figure out what it actually was. This would be a great help! Thank you, Alex

Huge Traffic Drop without any change on website
Hello there, I've experienced a huge website traffic drop and I can't find a reason. I redesigned and updated the SEO strategy in early December and the traffic was increasing, that's why I have no idea why that is happening. I have a video on home page and the views/day dropped a lot as well, but not as much as website visits! Any inputs? Best regards, NIB6rwF.png

Where to find "Keywords that Sent Organic Search Visits" in Google Analytics?
Hi everyone, Tried searching for this answer but couldn't find it. In the new analytics, I can see that there is a graph that shows the number of unique keywords that brought traffic to our site sorted by weeks. I can't seem to find this data in Google Analytics. I can only find the number of visits but not sorted by how many keywords, instead it is just # of visits from all of the keywords. Thanks in advance. SZ

Pages crawled
Hi I've created a campaign for my own website and added 3 competitor sites. Under the campaign it says that 53 pages have been crawled but my site has less than 10 pages. Are the other pages from my competitor sites? Thanks James

Any updates regarding 'not provided' organic keyword referrals in Google Analytics?
I know that the encrypted searches done by people logged into their Google accounts is causing the error, is there any workaround or any update from Google as to IF they will give us our keyword data back? I'm currently losing data on about 20% of my daily searches . . .

How Can I Record .zip Traffic in Google Analytics
The company I am with shows traffic coming in to .zip files in Google Analytics. The traffic being recorded stopped a while back, but I know people are still downloading/visiting these .zip ULRs. I'm not sure how they were recording/tracking the .zip URLs (in Analytics) before, but I'd like to track them once again. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks
