How long does it take Open Site Explorer to register my backlinks?
-
I have been using Open Site Explorer for the following website http://www.doorhandlesltd.co.uk/
I have been link building for serveral months now and added over 100 links including directories such as business.com yet when I run the Open Site Explorer report it says I only have 10 root domain links.......the ones that were there before I started my link building.
Any ideas on why this might be? Or does Open Site Explorer take a certain amount of time to collect this data? If so does anybody know how long this takes?
Thanks

OSE tends to update every 1-2 months. What I do is use linkdiagnosis.com to pull links that are indexed in CSV format, then use OSE to get authority, mozRank and Trust stats. This way you can get all your newly crawled links and get the great OSE insight.
-
Yes but the problem I find with Yahoo is that it only lists 1000. And I'm not sure what order these are in.
-
Mmm... better the Yahoo SiteExplorer way. the Google link command is absolutely not comprehensive of all the links a site owns.
-
Thanks I took a look at the links:domain.com method and I can see a lot of the links that I added.
Basically OSE hasn't updated since I've started. Will be interesting to see how long it takes.
-
I have to say OSE is very conservative with the links it lists. I'm not completely sure why, but sometimes major links will not be listed. You can see this if you compare the results of site explorer in yahoo and also the links:domain.com google backlink research method. It's probably not time, OSE, just doesn't like these links.
For example, right now Yahoo site exporer is showing Seomoz.org has 964,000 links to it and OSE shows 24,000. So I recommend trying the yahoo and google approach for assistance.
-
The real question here you should ask first is how long does it take for a directory to display your link? You may have added 100 link to directories and such, but do you even know if they are live? If they're not yet published, then obviously no tool will report them to you.
If they are published, you have to think about how often OSE updates its index. Linkscape updates happen about once each month. So if you don't see any new links, wait until the next update and see then. It will take them a while to appear and be found, so just be patient.

How long do changes in title tags take to affect SEO?
This is kind of a loaded question. I'm completely new to SEO. I think my boss signed up for Moz Pro sometime in February and started adding data to our Ecommerce site to help with rankings. Sometime before this, I changed some of the title tags on the site (trying to help with organic search and CTR). I did not do a site wide change.... just changed maybe 10-20 (just a guess). I did it with keywords in mind but did not make note of when I did it. I didn't really know better at the time, and I did not have access to Google Analytics or Moz Pro. I was looking through the ranking data/graph for February and March. It won't let me look before February 29th (so that's why I think my boss started the Mos Pro subscription around at that time). On that day it said we ranked 12 keywords in the 1-3 spot, and then the following week (march 7) it went down to 6. I don't think or know if any major site changes were implemented, so I'm not sure why that happened and if it has anything to do with my title tag changes I did maybe a week or two before (again I am not sure when I did this unfortunately). Since then the keyword ranking numbers stayed about the same with organic traffic slowly going down (it could be because we are getting out of season for our industry though). The second week of March the site was upgraded and since then the menu has been completely changed around. Last week I did a site wide title tag change. So the minor changes I made in February are no longer in effect anyway. I added more keywords to Moz earlier this week and the number for 1-3 spot keywords went up from 6 to 20. It also says my ranking moved up 4 keywords and down 13 keywords. Anyway, I am wondering how seriously I should take these changes and if I'm damaging the site. I am new to Moz Pro also so all the data you can access is kind of confusing/overwhelming.

How to set up Rel=canonical in Joomla based sites
I've built a few sites using joomla (please don't tell me I should be using wordpress!!) and wondered how I can add the rel-canonical to these pages. I'm assuming it would come as a plugin or module but can't seem to find anything that works right for me. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance, Gordon

Fresh Web Explorer explorer doesnt seem to work properly
How do I get Fresh Web Explorer explorer to work properly. The feedback I’m getting shows that my brand, Health 2000 had over 4000 mentions on Monday the 13th of January. However when I check out the links that supposedly mention our brand, they bring up general terms related to Health and make no reference to our brand. How can I refine this?

Long URLs
My website is hosted by Hubspot. When I create a blog, the URL, as an example, would be: http://www.boxtheorygold.com/blog/bid/27061/Manage-By-the-Numbers/ Instead I am getting the URL below. Google Webmaster tools and moz see this as an error and google says it can't crawl because it is a non-existent page. Users cannot see this page, and Hubspot can't figure it out, but google and moz see it. This problem is occurring on about 25 blogs out of 150. Any ideas? And thanks. Inbound Link Discrepancy: Campaign vs Open Site Explorer
Hello, I am getting starkly different inbound link amounts from Open Site Explorer and my Campaigns tab. Domain 1
Moz Pro | | truckguy77
Campaigns: Total links = 10,895,942 Open Site Explorer - Links = 224,000 Domain 2
Campaigns: Total links = 25,670,287
Open Site Explorer - Links = 157,000 Why would these be so different? For reference, the "Historical Domain Analysis" shows these sites getting exponentially more links starting in February. This is of concern to me. I didn't do anything different in February to get so many more links (especially not in the millions). If anything, I am hoping the "Campaigns" section is simply wrong about this.0 -
Why is a low ranking site outperforming a higher one?
Hi, I've got a question here that is more about learning than about rectifying this specific situation, as it is a low traffic (low dollar) situation. I would appreciate your help. Thanks, Ken The targeted long-tail is: carrollton ga internet marketing The targeted site is: http://www.kennethlewis.com/ Yet, when I run the keyword search I get this other site of mine, which is older, but has much worse metrics. http://www.breemawellness.com/ On this site, all I did was put a in-text link on it and added the keywords to my title tags. Open Site Explorer shows these metrics: KennethLewis.com 34, 23, 18, 98 vs. BreemaWellness 27, 15, 7, 10. Both are on the same server. Note: -Until two months ago the KennethLewis.com was only partially about Internet Marketing- mildly so, actually- and it was a 2-3 page iWeb not-optimized site. But BreemaWellness has never been about Internet Marketing, and those words were just added two months ago for the first time. -KennethLewis.com gets regular content changes, to the blog. BreemaWellness.com almost never gets touched. Thoughts?
