How to get around Google Removal tool not removing redirected and 404 pages? Or if you don't know the anchor text?
-
Hello! I can’t get squat for an answer in GWT forums. Should have brought this problem here first…
The Google Removal Tool doesn't work when the original page you're trying to get recached redirects to another site. Google still reads the site as being okay, so there is no way for me to get the cache reset since I don't what text was previously on the page.
For example:
This:
|
http://0creditbalancetransfer.com/article375451_influencial_search_results_for_.htm
|
Redirects to this:
http://abacusmortgageloans.com/GuaranteedPersonaLoanCKBK.htm?hop=duc01996
I don't even know what was on the first page. And when it redirects, I have no way of telling Google to recache the page. It's almost as if the site got deindexed, and they put in a redirect.
Then there is crap like this:
No links to my site are on there, yet Google's indexed links say that the page is linking to me. It isn't, but because I don't know HOW the page changed text-wise, I can't get the page recached.
The tool also doesn't work when a page 404s. Google still reads the page as being active, but it isn't.
What are my options? I literally have hundreds of such URLs.
Thanks!

K thanks for clarifying. I think I have a better understanding now of what's going on.
I'm assuming you are finding the links that are pointing to your site through Webmaster Tools. It can take weeks after google has recrawled the page for your updated link profile to be reflected in GWT.
But if you are going to theses websites with 404 pages and your link is no longer there then you should have nothing to worry about. I would suggest thoroughly reviewing the links on all the pages that are said to be linking to you and and view the source code for no display tags with links to your site.
Unless you own or have permission from the website with the 404 pages, the Removal Tool won't allow you to remove the page from their index.
Have you checked on any link explorers to see if they are displaying the same links? Maybe it will provide you with a more refreshed link profile.

Sorry, Derek, I'll clarify more.
I'm cleaning up my backlink profile, and I've been able to get a lot of backlinks removed. But there are three issues that I'm having.
1, Some of the pages that Google says are linking to me actually redirect to another page that doesn't have my link on it (the 0creditbalancetransfer.com example you listed being an example). The redirected page doesn't any links to my site on there, but Google says it does.
2, Google shows hundreds of pages linking to me, but none of those pages are actually linking to me. And they haven't for months. I tried using the Google Removal tool, but because I don't know the anchor text of the link I had on the page previously, I can't tell Google what has changed on the page. And because of that, they won't recache the page.
4, There are hundreds of pages that Google shows linking to me, but when I go to those pages, they are custom 404s. Again, the Google Removal Tool won't allow me to recache the page or remove it.
Hope that helps.
Thanks!

Im having trouble trying to understand the question.
You want google to index and see the content on http://0creditbalancetransfer.com but currently have a 301 redirect to http://abacusmortgageloans.com/GuaranteedPersonaLoanCKBK.htm?hop=duc01996
Is this correct?

Redirecting Pages During Site Migration
Hi everyone, We are changing a website's domain name. The site architecture will stay the same, but we are renaming some pages. How do we treat redirects? I read this on Search Engine Land: The ideal way to set up your redirects is with a regex expression in the .htaccess file of your old site. The regex expression should simply swap out your domain name, or swap out HTTP for HTTPS if you are doing an SSL migration. For any pages where this isn’t possible, you will need to set up an individual redirect. Make sure this doesn’t create any conflicts with your regex and that it doesn’t produce any redirect chains. Does the above mean we are able to set up a domain redirect on the regex for pages that we are not renaming and then have individual 1:1 redirects for renamed pages in the same .htaccess file? So have both? This will not conflict with the regex rule?

I've screwed up. Domain pointers I forgot about. Think I am getting dinged by google.
Hey all. I setup some domain pointers for a client 8 years ago and now think they are hurting them. I am afraid google thinks it duplicate content. They are pointers so you can get to the same page using other domain names. Is my best approach to do a 301 redirect on them? The client is on a shared host so I have to use the web.config file. The site is pretty small so doing it for the 10+ pages is not that big of a deal. My question is this? When should I drop those pointers from the website altogether?

NGinx rule for redirecting trailing '/'
We have successfully implemented run-of-the-mill 301s from old URLs to new (there were about 3,000 products). As normal. Like we do on every other site etc. However, recently search console has started to report a number of 404s with the page names with a trailing forward slash at the end of the .html suffix. So, /old-url.html is redirecting (301) to /new-url.html However, now for some reason /old-url.html/ has 'popped up' in the Search Console crawl report as a 404. Is there a 'blobal' rule you can write in nGinx to say redirect *.html/ to */html (without the forward slash) rather than manually doing them all?

Google indexing only 1 page out of 2 similar pages made for different cities
We have created two category pages, in which we are showing products which could be delivered in separate cities. Both pages are related to cake delivery in that city. But out of these two category pages only 1 got indexed in google and other has not. Its been around 1 month but still only Bangalore category page got indexed. We have submitted sitemap and google is not giving any crawl error. We have also submitted for indexing from "Fetch as google" option in webmasters. www.winni.in/c/4/cakes (Indexed - Bangalore page - http://www.winni.in/sitemap/sitemap_blr_cakes.xml) 2. http://www.winni.in/hyderabad/cakes/c/4 (Not indexed - Hyderabad page - http://www.winni.in/sitemap/sitemap_hyd_cakes.xml) I tried searching for "hyderabad site:www.winni.in" in google but there also http://www.winni.in/hyderabad/cakes/c/4 this link is not coming, instead of this only www.winni.in/c/4/cakes is coming. Can anyone please let me know what could be the possible issue with this?

Pagination and View All Pages Question. We currently don't have a canonical tag pointing to View all as I don't believe it's a good user experience so how best we deal with this.
Hello All, I have an eCommerce site and have implemented the use rel="prev" and rel="next" for Page Pagination. However, we also have a View All which shows all the products but we currently don't have a canonical tag pointing to this as I don't believe showing the user a page with shed loads of products on it is actually a good user experience so we havent done anything with this page. I have a sample url from one of our categories which may help - http://goo.gl/9LPDOZ This is obviously causing me duplication issues as well . Also , the main category pages has historically been the pages which ranks better as opposed to Page 2, Page 3 etc etc. I am wondering what I should do about the View All Page and has anyone else had this same issue and how did they deal with it. Do we just get rid of the View All even though Google says it prefers you to have it ? I also want to concentrate my link juice on the main category pages as opposed being diluted between all my paginated pages ? - Does anyone have any tips on how to best do this and have you seen any ranking improvement from this ? Any ideas greatly appreciated. thanks Peter

Soft 404's from pages blocked by robots.txt -- cause for concern?
We're seeing soft 404 errors appear in our google webmaster tools section on pages that are blocked by robots.txt (our search result pages). Should we be concerned? Is there anything we can do about this?

Removing pages from index
Hello, I run an e-commerce website. I just realized that Google has "pagination" pages in the index which should not be there. In fact, I have no idea how they got there. For example, www.mydomain.com/category-name.asp?page=3434532

There are hundreds of these pages in the index. There are no links to these pages on the website, so I am assuming someone is trying to ruin my rankings by linking to the pages that do not exist. The page content displays category information with no products. I realize that its a flaw in design, and I am working on fixing it (301 none existent pages). Meanwhile, I am not sure if I should request removal of these pages. If so, what is the best way to request bulk removal. Also, should I 301, 404 or 410 these pages? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Alex0
