Few questions regarding onsite content?
-
1. How important is having the keywords you are targeting on the page? Lets say you rank position 10 for 'Plumbing Services London' but you don't actually use the word 'London' at all in the page copy, what kind of effect could you expect if you added the word in the content?
Bit of a silly question really, I know it would have some effect but how important is it really?
2. What kind of effect would adding a blog with lets say 500 words of great content twice a week have on rankings? If you anchor text linked out of the copy would this alone help with ranking or is the reason for adding a blog to just use it as link bait to pull in more links, thus rankings are only effected when the blog starts to gain links?

If you are focused on generating local results, it is very important to have the geographic location in your keyword content. In London, you should also look at the impact of neighborhood or "borough" or section of the city....listed with plumbing services.
The Blog provides two opportunities: The first is keyword content. Google looks to your site to establish keyword relevancy. The blog provides you an opportunity to do that on a consistent basis.
The second is related to linkbuilding. Because relevant content has become so important, the blog can provide frsh content consistently to people that participate in discussions on the web...in the process you can earn links and listings from other blogs. In addition, good content can create some natural linking and viral sharing...this is the "linkbait" that you mention.
Regardless, all of your strategies are sound.
Here is a great article from SEOMOZ on a 6 month plan that is advanced but will give you solid detail on the subject: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-6-month-link-building-plan-for-an-established-website
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the nice reply.
Well if your homepage targeted your main location so lets say London, you then decided to target other areas say Manchester and Bristol using landing pages optimised against those terms so the content on these pages do have the location included in the content.
Now lets say visitors to those landing pages decided to venture outside of the page and visit the homepage, if you included London in the content it would look like, actually this company works in London and not Manchester.
I was thinking for every posts which would be around 500 words, I would add one anchor text link in the byline to the most relevant money page to the blog post.
Building social lists which contain active members I find can actually be quite difficult. Got any tips here?

I would say it would be pretty important to include that word London on the page content. It will help regionalise your page with Google, more SEO'ers might be able to say if this is true.
But I would defo have your targeted jeyword phrase within the page info, why wouldn't you want to?
2. Are you talking about your own blog or using different peoples blogs?
If you mean your own blog, link value will get worse the more links you put on it, but I use my own blog to give my customers something interesting to read, something they will share with others and the links on page are used to navigate to my website, rather than gain some juice from them.
If you mean other peoples blogs, then all depends on the content and their domain value. Sure 2 blogs a week is great but you'd be better getting 1 blog a month on a high ranking, content relative blog than getting 2 blogs a week on low ranking, totally irrelevant content blog.
So my advice would be to do 3 things.
- Put London in your page content.
- Create your own blog
- Use other, relevant, high ranking blogs to gain backlinks from, using unique content on every blog, with maybe no more than 1-2 links within a blog piece.
There is more to SEO than blog articles in my eyes. Social media is taking over the world, Twitter and Facebook provide huge audience potential for very little effort. Maximise that social gateway first is my view. What do others think?

Hi Iv been asked iv to host a basic SEO training session for some employees who have never had any experience in SEO before. Obviously SEO covers so many things and it would be imposisble to run through everything in a single training session. I was curious as to what you guys think would be the best use of the time for the training session? Thanks in advance

When writing content, is it good to reference wikipedia for some definitions?
Example...we write a unique article about the materials used in our products, giving a more in depth insight into the types of metals and minerals used in the products. Such articles are aimed at a small number of customers that ask more detailed questions about some of our material. In explaining some of these materials, we reference, and credit for, classifications used from the definitions given in wikipedia. The rest of article is ours and unique. Is getting these links from an authority such as wikipedia a good idea? Thank you.

Content Now
This is a general question, I was wondering if anybody had used content now before, either for content writing or link building. I've had them mentioned to me by a manager but would like to hear the opinions of others too. Has anybody used anything similar for creating content at all? Thanks

A few questions I need help with and would appreciate any help.
I am currently building links to our website via estalished blogs ect (2+ years old), As far as I understand even if they are unrelated to what we do (print) as long as the post is about print the link should offer some value is this correct? Other questions I have which I would greatly appreciate advice in are as follows........ (1) Do charity websites or company websites with link pages ( about5-10 other links) or links / logo's on the front page offer value even on unrelated sites? (2) What happens if 80% of the link building I am doing comes from blogs? (3) If I have links that are clearly spam that have been built to our site can they be damaging our potential to rank and how can I remove them as I have tried to contact the relevant parties but fear pressing the button on the google tool may harm our site should I? (4) If I have a page that genuinely has a lot of mentions of a keyword (not so much the money keyword but part such as wanting to rank for pool table but end up with the different versions of keywords having table mentioned 5 - 10% of the time). Thank you for your time.

Question about Competitive Link Comparison
Hi, I am trying to see where backlinks are coming from into my site using the competitive link comparison tool but it only seems to be finding those from my own site, even when I click on 'only external'. I know there should be links from Twitter, forums and our blog so I don't understand why these aren't being picked up. Any ideas? Cheers

How to Check if The Content is Spinned
Hi guys, We run 5 ecomm sites in the fashion industry. We set up blogs for each one of them. Our regular writer cannot handle the job of posting 1-2 unique articles per day on 5 blogs plus the extra copy writing jobs he has. We want to involve freelancers in writing our articles. We do not want to spin content (due to low prices of real articles). The issue we have is that we want to be able to check if the articles our contractors deliver us are spinned content or not. We would not accept spinned articles if we pay for unique content 🙂 Do you know any good spinned content checker that we can use? If possible, please post 2-3 software, free or paid, so we can use them simultaneously to check the articles. Thanks in advance

What to do with outdated (but ranking) content?
I'm SEOing for a theatre. We've got show pages that rank when searching for the business, but are outdated as the shows are from past years. The pages aren't accessible at all from the site now, but still exist in domain and are linked to by google. If you search the business, the results are: 1. [biz name] 2. [biz name] - tickets 3-6. outdated shows Should these pages be left up, or taken down and redirected home? Would there be any seo boost to the homepage from 301ing them home, or do you think it'd be more beneficial to have more results available as entry points into the site?

Duplicate content when uploading articles on other websites
Hi, We regularly write articles on our website and then submit them to different websites with link backs or sometimes without link backs. If google crawls these websites and our website, will it penalise us for duplicate content? Does it make a difference if we put link back to our site or not? If Google sees it as duplicate content, what should we do as a solution? Thanks
