A plea to 64-bit users
-
Hi all,
Sorry for the un-SEO-related question.
I have had a few complaints that one of my websites is not fully compatible with 64-bit OS / browsers. I don't have access to a 64-bit machine, so this is a plea for someone to have a quick peek for me.
The website (homepage works fine) - http://france-classified-ads-frenchentree.com
Search results page (also works fine) - http://france-classified-ads-frenchentree.com/search/action/browse/search_category/0/new_category/34
Ad details page (broken!) - http://france-classified-ads-frenchentree.com/ad/17887-Left-Hand-drive-Peugeot-207cc
The above ad details page is apparently appearing as just a blank page - correct? Can anyone suggest a fix? (The software is off-the-shelf, and my suspicion is that the software is not compatible).
Thanks very much in advance of any responses!
Matt

Thanks for the response. Users had tested in IE, Chrome and Firefox and it caused an issue on each one. I have tested the site in every version of IE on a 32 bit OS with no problems.
I'm getting rather stumped. My latest user stated that he's running the professional version of XP, but "on an old laptop with a home version of XP 64-bit, it works fine". So I guess the 64-bit isn't the issue. I really can't imagine that there's any difference between the home OS and professional OS.
Oh well... I'll keep looking! Thanks for the responses.

Major question:
Obviously they're running a 64 bit OS but what about the browser? For instance, Mat said he tested in Chrome, Firefox and IE. Of those, only IE has an official 64 bit version (and Windows defaults to the 32 bit version by default).
Using Waterfox (unofficial 64 bit build of Firefox) and IE9 64 bit the ads page loads fine. However, there was a 64 bit build of IE 8. Is it possible that could be the issue? My bet is that it's an IE issue and not a 64 bit one.

How weird... I've had at least half a dozen folk complain about this error and all on 64-bit OS. Perhaps there is something else at fault then... Cheers Mat!
-
Yup - all works for me.

Hi Mat,
The ad details (the third link) are apparently not appearing - it's just loading a blank page. Assume you can see the advert, the template, etc?
Cheers
Matt

What is supposed to be broken? Can't see anything obvious in Chrome, Firefox or IE on Win7 64bit

Is the User Sitemap dead?
There's a discussion going on in our office about sitemaps. I thought it'd be a good idea to get the thoughts of the Moz community in on it, too. What are your thoughts? is the User Sitemap still an effective tool to utilize?

Toggle Tabs on pages - How to present information to users
Hi all, I can use some help with SEO/UX related question I have got. I have a client who has some toggel tabs on its website. Is there a way to display the relevant information from these toggle tabs when a user lands on the page instead of having the same toggle tab show for whenever a user reaches the page? What I am trying to understand is that if a user searched for "vitamin C benefit" (lets say) in Google and then clicks on the link, the user is presented with the "benefits" tab on the page instead of "side effects" tab. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Can forwarding users from one domain to a different domain damage rank and authority of first domain?
Preliminary Explanation: We launched a new website a couple months back but haven't had much luck in Google taking notice. One of the main attractions to our site is an old flash app that was made nearly a decade ago. As the original developer has long ago moved on and we are unable to figure out how to integrate it with our new site, we've been stuck hosting the flash app on a different domain. As such, users who come to our site and want to use the app must immediately navigate away from our site to this other domain. This has caused our primary domain's bounce rate and average site time to plummet while raising it for the other domain. My question: is this damaging our search rank and page authority with Google for this primary domain/site and counter-acting any other positive SEO changes we can make? How much weight does Google give towards bounce rate/average site time spent by users in its overall calculations for search rank and page authority? Our average site time for this primary domain is resting currently at 50-60 seconds, while for the secondary domain that hosts the old flash app it is 4-5 minutes.

Fetch data for users with ajax but show it without ajax for Google
Hi, We have a thematic footer which shows similar pages links relevant to the search criteria made on a page. We want to fetch those footer similar links through ajax when users search on site but the links will be shown without using ajax when Google fetches those pages. We want to do this to improve our page load time. The links content & count will be exactly same in both cases whether Google fetches the search pages or user fetches those pages. Will this be treated as negative by Google, Can this have any negative affect on our rankings or traffic. Regards,

Our old site has some interlinking through footer & content whereas the new site does not has it. We wanted to do this since our new site does not supports some browsers. Will there be an issue with Google on showing the site like this. The mobile site & desktop site will have same url across devices & browsers. Regards

Google Translate with "no-follow" just for users' use, no ranking
Hello, I tried to search but here is a little unique situation. I would like to translate my website in 2-3 different languages not for ranking purpose, but only for some minority users within Italy to understand the content in their native language. Using "no-follow" with a Google Translate link would damage SEO? if not I would like to use it. Here are few points: Give users the ability to switch the content to their language with a link Tell Google not to follow the translated pages, because I don't want them to be used for ranking or searches I would start simply with Google Translate to see if people actually are interested, then later translate by human but still don't want google to follow I could also start with human translation instead of Google Translate if really needed, I know it is a no no. What I'm very interested is to make sure that those pages under "no-follow" won't affect my SEO in good or bad right now, because we would like to keep as it is. Thanks a lot
