Should I use a subdomain our primary domain for this content?
-
Hi,
We have an eCommerce site www.refreshcartridges.co.uk and currently publish videos, unique articles, troubleshooting advice etc. on a subdomain igloo.refreshcartridges.co.uk. The hope is that the content on igloo will prove sufficiently useful for someone to either link to or bookmark for future reference. Eventually this will hopefully result in sales through the main site.
We were assured several years ago that we should host this content on a subdomain but the more I think about it, the more I think that this content should be hosted as part of the main site (for example www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/).
My logic is that this would extend a couple of advantages, not least that any links built to this unique content would be attributed to the primary domain rather than the subdomain. Although I appreciate the subdomain does link back to the primary domain I can't help but feel this dilutes the potential strength of any link. Post Penguin I think it would be nice to get genuine, natural links appreciating content on our primary domain rather than a separate subdomain.
It should probably be pointed out that we only publish articles related to our key business activity (printing, cartridges, technology) on igloo. There is no unrelated content designed simply as link bait.
If we were to make the move we would of course 301 all the old pages..
I would really appreciate your opinion on whether you agree or whether you would be tempted to keep the content on a subdomain.
Thanks for your help!
Chris

NP! Best of luck to you

Hi Rebekah,
Many thanks for your response - It's always nice to get a second opinion before spending your day doing something that could potentially be detrimental!
We're about to write a few dozen 'how to' guides and suddenly it struck me that the primary domain would be getting very little benefit from any people that potentially link in to the content.
Thanks again for your help. I’ll get cracking on the move now.

Tricky situation, and individual opinions may differ...but here is mine.
Ultimately, yes it would be more beneficial to have the subdomain part of the main domain. Right now your subdomain is generating a good amount of links, and the authority from those links aren't transferred to the main domain at all because a subdomain is considered a completely separate website.
I am also assuming that the subdomain and the main domain are on the same C-Class, and in that case any links you have coming from the subdomain to your main domain are probably not getting all the authority it can from those links.
301 redirecting the pages on the subdomain to their respective pages on the main domain would be the best option, but remember that there is some degradation of page rank so this won't be as strong of a signal as it was previously. After transferring content and adding in 301s, I would continue concentrating on providing valuable content that would earn links to make up for the loss of PR when transferring it over.

Using Linkedin Groups for Content Marketing
In my sector there are approximately 100 relevant groups that I could post content to. There are between 5 and 10 that would be relevant to any particular blog post. How many groups should I post to? If I post to all relevant ones I can end up spamming due to overlapping group membership, If I don't I can miss out on access to a potentially large audience What's best practice here?

Which is better for Wordpress multisite SEO? Subdomains or subdirectories
Hi, I've always used subdomains when setting up a WordPress Multisite + Buddypress website. But which is better for SEO? Now I'm thinking this may not be a "one size fits all" websites decision: Case 1: The subsite blog owners need/want/pay/ to advertise their own business using their subsite. Subdomains are perfect because they can SEO their own site seperate from other client sites, yet reap benefits from the home buddpress site SEO. Case 2: The subsite blogs are for hobbyists so they are not promoting their own site with SEO, at least they don't need to. However, using subsites subdirectories will enhance the content and SEO for the main Buddypress site by treating them all as content of the main site. I would appreciate hearing from those with more expertise. Regards, Larry .

Would great contents alone, be enough for ranking high?
Hi and thank you everyone for reading this post. Recently I had purchased a business including the domain. The website has been around for over 10 years with some links pointing back to it including couple of links from dmoz. I am in the process of up dating the website but most of the pages are not relevant anymore and thus will not be in the new website. I have couple of questions: 1. Since some of those old pages are getting some backlinks, would it be prudent to keep the url and 301 it to say homepage or another page? I want to work out the best way of utilising the current backlinks. Is this the best way? 2. The website is in a highly competitive industry and I want to add a lot of informative contents. The contents will be well written (professionally) and not for the sake of SEO but for providing valuable information for users. Whilst I'm adding the contents, what would be best way of drawing attention of the potential users to it? If I release the same content as a way of notes in its FB page, would that be considered as duplicate content in the eyes of Google? Or should I just share the link on FB? What are the other mediums available that considered to be effective for sharing contents. I'm also thinking about guest blogging for selected blogs. Would this be an effective way of increasing the authority of my website? I should say that at the moment the site has a PA of 44 for the homepage and DA of 35. Are these numbers OK? Thanks again.

For better SEO I understand I should be using Google+, but under what identity?
It appears one way to rank more highly is by using Google+. But should I start to build a community myself or as my company? I have a good Twitter following under my own name, which links to my company page and a facebook page (for my business). I much prefer to be a face on social media than hide behing a logo, but am faced with a dilemma and not sure where to begin: Will Google recognise the relationship between me and my business if I set up an account under my own name? Primarily it's my business I want to promote, so from an seo perspective it seems should I use Google+ as my business, but I really dislike 'corporate' social media?

These are the points I have thought of so far are: Subject / Topic Content Objective Desired User Outcome / Call to action Sources, References Tone of voice Related product information Target SEO keywords Can you think of anything else to add? Do you know good resources (articles, blog post) tackling the subject of a content creation brief? Thanks in advance.

Do facebook shares of deep links help the whole domain rank better?
What i mean by this is if we were to obtain 10-20 facebook shares for 10 different deep links like these: http://domain.com/deep-page/page-one
Social Media | | adriandg
http://domain.com/deep-page/page-two
http://domain.com/deep-page/page-three
http://domain.com/deep-page/page-four
... Would that help any of these rank better:
http://domain.com
http://domain.com/product1
http://domain.com/product2
etc... Extrapolating, does the same count for Twitter, Google+, etc?0 -
Linking to a twitter account? Best to use the /#!/ or not? or no difference?
So if I am linking to someone's twitter account should I use the ajax code #! or not? http://twitter.com**/#!/**thos003 vs http://twitter.com/thos003 Bonus Question: I have also seen in the past that google splits a domain that has as a secure protocol. https://twitter.com vs http://twitter.com Does does that split link juice?
