Expressionengine SEO

One of my clients is using expressionengine CMS, and even the simplest things like creating unique page titles seem to be a nightmare. When I try to change page title via cms it also changes navigation menu. Any help will be appreciated.

Just browsing the forum and noticed this thread... Looks like you've changed to WordPress, but I just wanted to post an answer should anyone else need it.
Based on your description, the page title and navigation items are currently being generated from the same field (likely, the default "title" field) in the entry. Moreover, it's certainly not unusual to want them to be different (navigation title generally much shorter).
You'll want to add a new custom field specifically for the navigation title, adjust the template that generates the navigation to use this new field, and continue using the main Title field the way you wanted.
Assuming you're on ExpressionEngine 2.x (released july 2010), you'll add the new field through Admin > Channel Administration > Custom Fields.
To adjust the template that generates the navigation, you'll want to go to Design > Templates > Edit. If you're familiar with HTML, you can open the Index template and drill down to wherever the navigation is likely located at. You'll probably find an "embed" statement that references another template specifically for navigation. Just use whatever name is in the embed statement to find the navigation template, and go back to Design > Templates > Edit to open that template up. From there, you'll want to change the {title} tags to the name of the new navigation title field you created - {my_new_field} .
If you're on 1.x, the process is very similar, but the templates and custom fields are in a slightly different location - let me know if you need additional help.
I don't work for ExpressionEngine, but I do want to mention, for whatever it's worth, that I've used most major CMSs (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc.), and stopped when I got to EE. If you're comfortable with HTML, you'll find it's an extremely powerful CMS, especially for SEO.

Is your client open to changing to a new CMS? I haven't used expressionengine but it sounds like some of the features you would expect to be simple are not.

How does changing sitemaps affect SEO
Hi all, I have a question regarding changing the size of my sitemaps. Currently I generate sitemaps in batches of 50k. A situation has come up where I need to change that size to 15k in order to be crawled by one of our licensed services. I haven't been able to find any documentation on whether or not changing the size of my sitemaps(but not the pages included in them) will affect my rankings negatively or my SEO efforts in general. If anyone has any insights or has experienced this with their site please let me know!

Will removing the trailing slash impact my SEO?
Hi there, We have a company website based on Wordpress. I just noticed that under Settings > Permalinks I can configure the look of the URLs and even remove the trailing slash. We have about 2-300 pages online. If I remove the trailing slash now, will that negatively impact our SEO in anyway for existing pages? Thanks!

a) The Job Listing Page
b) The Service Provider Page The Listing pages have very valuable H1 Titles, but everything else is duplicate content. To capture those keywords currently in H1, we have created a different landing page for each category page, and we`ll optimize around that, so these H1s are not that big of a deal any more. These landing pages are the key to our SEO strategy and we are building new content every day to help them rank I want to make the Listing Pages No Index Follow. This way they pass Juice to Jobs, and Profiles which have unique contents, but are not indexed themselves. Is this a bad idea? I have been thinking about doing this for over a year but it never felt important enough to be worth the risk of accidentally screwing up We `ll soon do a new on page flow optimization and that's why I am considering this again. Domain redirect seo
Hello, my domain www.pacomarca.com and when i start the new campaing i get this pronblem: We have detected that the domain www.pacomarca.com and the domain pacomarca.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here. my domain is in networksolutions.com. how can i resolve it? many thanks Gonzalo

SEO advice when making a mobile site
Hi there, I'm current working on a site that is optimized for SEO and doing quite well in the rankings. We have noticed a big increase in mobile users to the site (mainly iOS and Android), so we have no started planning a mobile site as well. Do you guys have any recommendations we should keep in mind before we get started? One thing I'm still not sure of is whether we should aim to preserve all urls and cloak the pages (show mobile version to iOS and Android, and desktop version to everyone else) OR make a separate site for the mobile version (mobile.domain.com)? Huge and sudden fall in SEO traffic
Hi, I’m writing you because we have noticed in Google Analytics account, a huge fall in the SEO traffic of mywebsite, starting suddenly in one precise day. The difference between this day and the previous one is: -46,36% . Traffic has fallen in all parts of the site in the same way. Some details: - we did not make any relevant change to the website - we haven’t been banned by Google (or we don’t have any message about it in GWT) - the number of the landing pages remains approximately the same - the number of indexed keywords falls from 9.000 to 4.000. - around 2 weeks ago we found out around 120 pages with 404 error, but the error now is solved and the pages are currently working we open the content to Google about 4 months but still we have not published our Site Map. I know that the 404 error could could affect the indexation, but do you have any other idea, apart of this, of what could have happened? Thanks!
