First eCommerce site, any tips on how to increase rankings would be appreciated.

As I mentioned I'm working on a new eCommerce site and just want some hints and tip on how I can potentially get the most out of ranking it.
I've meta titled / tag most of the products with relevant keywords, we have a good social standing so far with growth on Twitter + facebook but conversions are currently low or only coming through the website's eBay store (that has no connection on the site)

Yes, we fixed though problems. It was due to how our CMS handles finding pages in the Web Config. It was setup to reply basically that it looked for the page and nothing came back, rather than 404'ing. That's fixed now

Hi All,
Thank s for the great responses. At the moment I have been trying to push the social aspect of the site more and I have some articles ready to go up on the blog, especially with it being London Fashion Week i'm targetting content around that area.
With regards to the keyword theme, at the moment I have some head terms on the Homepage, but getting them onto the category pages is difficult, or I find it difficult, I am looking at adding text pods into the category pages for this reason.
At the moment Head Terms we are targetting are looking around Cheap Ladies Fashion + Cheap Fashionable Clothes.

Simon, good looking site.
My immediate thoughts would be:
- Add a Pinterest page and Pin It button - you're in the perfect market
- Start a G+ page and link to it from your site
- Create a YouTube channel and add some videos
- There's very little in the way of textual content on category and sub category pages.
- Build links - start with low hanging fruit. There's some really easy links to grab out there from domains of high authority*. Start with those and then work your way in to grabbing some links from fashion blogs. A simple strategy here would be to donate an item to fashion blogs and have them review or give it away. You'll get valuable links and traffic back to your site.
*I recently wrote a blog post regarding easy to get links from domains of high authority. Apologise if this is against SEOmoz rules - but I think it applies here. http://www.bradkrussell.com.au/followed-links-authoritative-domains/
Thanks, and good luck!

Upon running the URL through http://www.ragepank.com/redirect-check/ - the site has some wacky stuff going on.
Like Davinia said, I'd redirect non-www to www version. You can do this in a variety of ways, but if you have access to the htaccess file, there's code given on that link I sent through.
-
Your site is assessable via a www and non-www URL version. Goodness from building links to your site will be split. Easy fix - place a 301 permanent redirect from the non-www version to www version (or visa-versa), do this for all pages within your website (not just your homepage).
Product pages definitely need keyword targeted copy if you want them to rank and yes I agree with Mat, there doesn't appear to be a clear keyword theme throughout the website.

finish blog posts.
-
get links.
-
if your items are unique to you, funky and in-demand, I suggest looking at sharing (social) at the product-listing level.
-
get up some pinterest boards. Apparel is HOT right now.
-
listen to the rest of the responses specific to on-site. Long-tail is a good strategy, especially now when you have no domain authority. Get tracking, spend wisely and watch & learn on your campaigns successes and failures.
Work on links now, get some fresh links coming in & then focus on the rest. Nobody will link to you just because you have a PRweb release, have competitive pricing, decent product & a beautiful site. It does happen occasionally, but the reality is (for the majority) it is all about gaining momentum, building your digital footprint and networking.

Hi Simon - nice looking site
I suppose that the first question should be "ranking for what?". A quick skip through the site doesn't suggest any particular target area for the site, so what is it that you want to rank for?
At the moment it looks like you best hope is long tail phrases the product level: ie targeting "purple jegging" "dalmation print onsie"* etc.
If that is the aim I'd focus on adding product descriptions (which if well written will help with conversion as well) and generally building authority to the site through link building. I'd imagine that the huge number of fashion bloggers out there who enjoy a freebie would be very useful i that sort of link building.
Higher up the foodchain of keywords I think you need to look at your category pages quite a bit more if you want them to attract traffic. Likewise there doesn't seem to be much in place that looks at head terms yet.
Ignore rankings for a moment, I'd also be looking at the more important metrics of traffic and ultimately sales. I'd imagine those products would play very well socially. I'd be looking at how best to get them shared/pinned/whatevered as well.
*Not a phrase I ever thought I would type.

How can a site rank high without any visible SEO tactics?
Hi SEO specialists, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but there is something bugging me for awhile now, so I thought let's give it a try. I work for several clients and one of them works in the Psychic business. Since a few months we see that site from Psychicvop.com is taking over all kinds of top rankings in Google. The strange thing is that I can't detect anything that I always learned which is basic material for SEO. There isn't much content and there link profile isn't really spectacular either. Does any of you have an idea what it is about this sites that makes them outrank every other site in the business?

New site failing to rank - could this be why?
I have a new client site that is not appearing anywhere in the top 100 for its main keywords. ASSUMING that this is not an issue with optimization or link quality, I am wondering whether it might be the following... The client's company has a parent company whose website has decent authority. This website links to the new (client) website. In addition, the 2 press releases we have done include links to both companies, since one was an outgrowth of the other. This is all 100% natural, so my inclination is that this is not causing the issue. But does anyone have any experience to suggest otherwise? That having website A linking to website B, and 50+ press release websites linking to both, could be causing the algorithm to throttle website Bs ability to rank? Thanks in advance!

How to optimize count of interlinking by increasing Interlinking count of chosen landing pages and decreasing for less important pages within the site?
We have taken out our interlinking counts (Only Internal Links and not Outbound Links) through Google WebMaster tool and discovered that the count of interlinking of our most significant pages are less as compared to of less significant pages. Our objective is to reverse the existing behavior by increasing Interlinking count of important pages and reduce the count for less important pages so that maximum link juice could be transferred to right pages thereby increasing SEO traffic.

Site Not Ranking- No Reason Why
I have a client with a HUGE website who should be ranking for it's competitive keywords. No penalties, or bad links. Old domain. Not ranking for anything. Client has a huge AdWords spend and my theory is that it's not ranking organically because of the AdWords spend. I can't think of anything other reason. Anyone? Thanks. The keywords I'm trying to rank this client for aren't even competitive.

Why Is This Page Not Ranking?
Hi Mozzers, I can't rank (the page is nowhere on the Google grid that I can find) and I've not been able to move the needle at all on it. The page is http://www.lumber2.com/Western-Saddle-Pads-s/98.htm for keyword "western saddle pads." I'm inclined to think I'm cannabalizing the category with the products so I removed the word saddle from the majority of the product names on page. However, saddle pad or saddle pads is in the meta title for most if not all of the products. Do you think I'm cannabalizing with the product titles or is there something else going on? Thanks for any help.

My site still out of rank
Hello, I am working on a site for past 3 months, here are the problems with this site, 1. It had a forum full of spam becuase initially captcha was not included, 10000 spam backlinks 2. Affiliate page was also hit by spam about 4000 spam backlinks which were either not existing or porn etc.... 3. Too many internal links which were indexed, these additional links were generated due to tags, ids, filters etc. Existing SEO team decided to remove the forum and after 30 days they blocked it in robots. But within 30 days the site moved from 3rd page to no where. Now after few days lator internal links are also cleaned by putting following in the robots, Dissallow: / *? Dissallow: / *id Dissallow: / *tag Links are now cleaning up, all the spam and bad links are now put into disavow file and sent to google via disavow tool. On daily bases good quality links are been produced such as through content, article submission, profile linking, Bookmarks etc. The site is still not any where on top 50 results. The impressions are decreasing, traffic also do not rise as much. How do you see all this situation. What do you suggest and how long do you think it will take to return to top 10 when good linking is being done and all preventive measures are being taken. I would appreciate any feedback on it. Thank you. Site URL: http://www.creativethemes.net keywords: magento themes, magento templates

Best-of-the-web content in steep competition, ecommerce site
Hello, I'm helping my client write a long, comprehensive, best-of-the-web piece of content. It's a boring ecommerce niche, but on the informational side the top 10 competitors for the most linked to topic are all big players with huge domain authority. There's not a lot of links in the industry, should I try to top all the big industries through better content (somehow), pictures, illustrations, slideshows with audio, and by being more thorough than these very good competitors? Or should I go for something that's less linked to (maybe 1/5 as much people linking to it) but easier? or both? We're on a short timeline of 3 and 1/2 months until we need traffic and our budget is not huge
