From #2 TO Not Found in top 100 Results, WTF?
-
So my website was #2 for a targeted keyword on google.
(6 months ago: # (3 months ago: #6) (1 week ago: #2).
As you can see, it was moving up nicely, now it's not found on the top 100 search results.
Only appears #2/(B) in the local search section.
Could that be the reason? Websites that appear on the local search no longer appears in the SERP?

I agree with this. Seems like a penalty.

Hi Jorge, In answer to your question - yes - if your site has not achieved a high blended/local rank (you say you are in the B position) for its core term, it is very common for it to lose its organic rankings. Since around the time of the Venice update, it has become quite rare for a business to have multiple spots on page 1.
Prior to this, it was common for dominant businesses to have a local pack-style ranking as well as 1 or 2 organic spots, all on page one. Now, examples of this are few an far between, though they do exist. There has been some interesting chat about this going around the local sphere. On the one hand, heatmap studies have shown that those blended local results draw eyes to them.
See this great article by our Dr. Pete, here at SEOmoz: www.seomoz.org/blog/eyetracking-google-serps
On the other hand, since Google's removal of the 5 star rating and replacement of it with the Zagat rating, PPC on the side of many SERPs has those gold stars, so heatmaps might look a bit different today than they did in 2011. I have heard tell of several reports of loss impressions/actions for business owners in your position who went from a high organic rank to their organic ranking being subsumed into the local pack. And the whole stars vs. Zagat issue is becoming increasingly noted. Here is an excellent video and article from Matthew Hunt of Small Business Online Coach on this issue that I recommend you check out:

Now, the truth is that it is still really important to achieve a high blended/local ranking. Most businesses are dying to get into the local pack, so you can feel good about what you've achieved with this. However, the ideal achievement would be to attain one of those rather rare accomplishments of getting both a high local ranking and a high organic one. This is not a well-documented process. Here's a piece from Adam Steele giving some tips about it, but it can be difficult to achieve:
http://www.nightlitemedia.com/2012/05/organic-and-google-places-ranking-on-page-1/
I know one Local SEO who actually offers training on this if you sign up for her complete program and that is Linda Buquet of CatalysteMarketing, so if you discover that getting a double rank on page one is vital to your phones ringing, you might want to consider hiring Linda for training.
Hope this response is helpful!

That can't be the reason. Sounds like a site or keyword over-optimization penalty.

Hard to say without knowing the domain or the keyword.

Has anyone found a best practice for ranking a client who has one central office location, but a large, regional service area that they want to rank for?
All the most recent local search ranking is based upon physical addresses, but what happens when someone provides services and has staff 100 miles from that central office location, but no physical address to work with?

2 websites for 2 dealer locations or one website for both locations - Thoughts?
I'm trying to decide what would be the best option for my client. They are a car dealership group who own 2 dealerships about a half hour away from each other. The dealerships have the same name but are just located in different locations. One dealership is in a small city in competition with several other dealerships within the city. "Dealership name city name" The other dealership they own (Same dealership name) is located in a small town close to an even larger city. "Same dealership name small town name" My options are: 1. Creating 1 authoritative website optimized for all 3 locations. The 2 cities both dealerships are located in as well as the large city close to the small town. This option would be less time consuming, we would only have to earn links, citations & blog for one website. However we'd still need to have citations using both dealership addresses. So that's still double the work. This site would probably be more authoritative and we could have a page promoting each dealership & have shared vehicle inventory. We'd attach 2 Google+ pages using the different addresses & have both location addresses prominently in the footer of the site. 2. Create 2 separate websites for each dealership & target the surrounding towns/cities in their respective areas (even though both dealerships are only a half hour apart). This option is more time consuming as we'd have to earn double the amount of links. Work on citation building, blog for 2 websites etc. But we wouldn't be diluting our SEO by trying to rank for all 3 locations. We'd have a better chance if we focused on each locations separately on 2 sites. BUT the 2 sites would have less authority. What is everyone's thoughts? What would you recommend to be the best option. Money isn't an issue. Thanks so much for any help.

Google Instant Search? REALLY?! Why is this the result???
First, this is one I thought I would never ask, but: Could this be true? I had noticed my MacBook Pro was eating some power and wanted to see if I could optimize my settings so to take advantage what battery life was available. (I swear that is the truth). So, I am at a Starbucks on someone and typed into Google search bar the following query - Best way to conserve - and, received the following instant search results before I could type - power on a macbook pro I am not putting it here as I want you to ask yourself what came up. I have attached a screenshot. My colleague arrived and without prompting she retried and got the same. So I am curious: Do you get the same result and why do you think that result is so predominant? This is funny. efuts.png

Why would my Bounce Rate drop from 40% to 2% over 3 days without making any major changes to my site www.hiltonhead.com?
Our Wordpress site has had an historical bounce rate of 40% for the last 3 years but last Thursday it dropped to 17%, Friday to 7% and now is running at 2%. The pageviews per visit have also increased from 3 to almost 6. Thanks

Website coming up in omitted results for search term?
Hi, My website is coming up in omitted results for search term. Now I have heard before if this is the case then its mainly due to a duplicate content penalty. But the content I used is unique and produced by a copywriter so its good. Its a new site and was in the results for about 2 weeks, I changed the non www to www in webmaster tools 1 day ago and now its sitting in omitted results. In webmaster tools I had to add the domain twice one non www and one www. Both accounts I hooked up a sitemap. Is it just because the site is new and its just working out where to rank me? Just so you know the non www was indexed for the 2 weeks changed it in webmaster tools so I wanted the www one indexed and now gone into omitted results. Cheers
