Google Places rankings go away, but organic rankings stay the same / get better?
-
Hello,
I hope you all can help me out here with the information I could provide. Anyways, the past number of months I have had 1 of our clients rank extremely high organically and on Google places. For example: My client is a law firm so if you search “CLIENTS-TOWN Attorney” they would come up organically on the first page and if you were in that town and search “CLIENTS-TOWN Attorney” or even just “Attorney” they would also come up in the Google Places list. Now for some reason starting a week ago I noticed they have completely disappeared from Google Places. No changes have been done to their site and everything is the same as it was. Their organic searches are the same if not better than before. Do you guys have any clue as to why this happened and how I could possibly turn this around?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi Ben,
It's still in Beta, but I know Michael and I think it looks pretty good, from my brief glance. Michael Borgelt is a really smart fellow. You're very welcome!

Thanks for sharing the tool Miriam! How'd you come across it?

Hi WhiteHat12,
I did actually hear rumors that there was some sort of shakeup last Thursday or Friday, but do not have documentation of this to share with you.
When you state Google Places, do you mean +? Have you recently merged your client's Place Page with a + profile? Here is a list of recent issues after merging:
You might also like to try out this new analysis tool, just launched by Michael Borgelt. I've not had a chance to check it out yet, but it looks like it could be helpful in trying to assess problems:

Without actually seeing the listing and investigating the account, it isn't possible to tell if there is a bug or penalty involved, or if the client has been surpassed by the actions of his competitors or if something else is going on. You may need to engage a Local SEO to consult with the client, because these issues typically take some hours to assess, due the large number of factors that can contribute to ranking changes. Hopefully, the 2 resources above will at least get you started in diagnosis.
Good luck!

The traffic has not really changed in any way. The main
reason this is important for us is because this client in particular is
obsessed with Google Places, and wants to see a strong ranking. They ranked for
every single lawyer term before, now they rank for none of them. Any idea of
the cause of this? -
The past couple of days there as been some flux industry wide. http://mozcast.com/
- How much traffic are you loosing not having Google the places listing rank?
- Are your increased organic rankings going to get you the same, or more traffic?
If you can have something better with this new change with little work, spend your time on that.
-
something could have went wrong with your places listing make sure everything is right than search your term and click on the map for certain keyword and check and see what page you are on u might have just got bumped out of the top 7 if you find yourself in the first 2 pages just build citations to get yourself back up in top 7

Google De-Indexed Our SIte for Branded Terms?
Hello all, As of 10am Pacific on September 12th, 2013, my team has noticed that our site, www.wirelessemporium.com, does not show up on the first 5 or 6 pages of SERPs for branded terms like "wireless emporium." We have not received any messages from Google via Webmaster Tools regarding this. Major activity that we've been doing to our site is updating content, meta tags, and h1 tags, along with removing/301 redirecting certain pages that did not meet Google quality guidelines. We've also been purging our backlink portfolio of toxic links and URLs, both manually and through the disavow tool. No blackhat has been done to this site for a very long time (more than 8 months now). One thing to note is that we did have a manual spam penalty placed on us back in July of 2012, it expired in early August of 2013 after a reconsideration request was submitted, and a 2nd manual spam penalty was placed on us again later that month. We are submitting a 2nd reconsideration request this Monday. Could this or the recent Panda update have anything to with this? We are very much in need of opinions as to why this is happening to our site. 5adbd14a31de3a78b998df94f0b6d2be

Google indexing PDF's
Hello, We work heavily on E-commerce SEO and recently Google has started to index PDF pages (Datasheets) added to the product pages instead of the actual product pages. Has anyone else noticed this at all? Seems to have got worse over the last month or so. Thanks

Local vs Global Search Results Yield Very Different Rankings Lately
When I monitor my website's rankings, I always do it from Canada (direct connection) and from the USA (using a VPN in Arizona). I've been monitoring rankings this way for the last 3 years. Most of the time, I got similar results (-5 / +5) from both location. My website is a ".com" and targets an international audience. Lately (is it since Panda 22?), I've seen dramatic differences in rankings from both locations. Some keywords will rank in the top 10 on Google.com (from the USA) while they will appear on page 3, 4, 5 and even lower on Google.ca (from Canada). The thing is, the top 10 results on Google.ca are not even from canadian websites. Fact of the matter, there are even some results from India websites (.in) in the top 10! I understand that Google.ca will give advantage to websites from Canada (or targeting the canadian market / .ca domain name) over international / US websites but there's never been such a huge difference in rankings until lately. Has anybody else experienced this? What are your thoughts?

Google Rel="Next" & Rel="Prev"
Hello, I have a catalogue website and I am implementing the rel="next" and rel="prev" to the website. My question is that we do have a view all page also, which apparently Google likes over a 'page1'.. Should I add the canonical to this page? I already have it set to WEBSITEURL/sonos (which is going well) I don’t want to have to change this to [URL]sonos/view-all (which is my view all link) as the first page is getting ranked well I am then telling Google no, the view all page is the parent. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks Rick

Google Places, NAP, multiple address with one phone number
How sensitive do you think the Google Places NAP algorithm is? If I have different Google Places pages for one client with multiple locations, but the same phone number for all locations with different addresses, will this hurt my Google Places ranking or organic webpage result?
