Canonical tag usage.

I have added canonical tags to all my pages, yet I just don't know if I have used them correctly - do you have any ideas on this. My url is http://www.waspkilluk.co.uk

ha ha .. Yes people at Google do make mistake.. Check here at -

And the interesting thing is that here in this post I informed them to make the changes and they made it .. lolz

Per and Deb - thank you so much for taking the time to give me some advice and reassurance on this question. With regards to the "missing gap", I took the code for the tag direct from Matt Cutts page on this, and did think at the time, "why is he missing a space?".
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/canonical-link-tag/
In this article his canonical code is written:
Any ideas why he didn't use the gap, a typo maybe?
-
Good spotted on the syntax, I actually never looked at that (blush)
But as he has the www version within his cannonical on the none www version, there is no need to redirect the none www pages as you state, as the cannonical is just that.
-
Just one small problem. Home page canonical is set as this - http://www.waspkilluk.co.uk/index.html . There is nothing wrong in this, but from user’s perspective it should be this - http://www.waspkilluk.co.uk/ .
And there is a gap missing here –
_ The correct code should be this –_
_Just minor changes, otherwise it is perfectly fine.
Another friendly advice. Please redirect all non www version of pages to its www counter parts. For say, this URL - http://waspkilluk.co.uk/ should be directed to http://www.waspkilluk.co.uk/ . _
-
It looks to me like you have done it perfectly
I did a test without www.* and cannonical pointed to the www version, just as it should.
Haven't checked all your pages, but the 20 random I checked was all OK

Hi all, Our website has more than 30 pages which are duplicates. So canonicals have been deployed to show up only 10 of these pages. Do more of these pages impact rankings? Thanks

Changing Canonical Tags on Indexed Pages that are Ranking Well
Hi Guys, I recently rolled out a domain wide canonical tag change. Previously the website had canonical tags without the www, however the website was setup to redirect to www on page load. I noticed that the site competitors were all using www and as far as I understand www versus non www, it's based on preference. In order to keep things consistent, I changed the canonical tag to include the www. Will the site drop in rankings? Especially if the pages are starting to rank quite well. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Canonical tags for duplicate listings
Hi there, We are restructuring a website. The website originally lists jobs that will have duplicate content. We have tried to ask the client not to use duplicates but apparently their industry is not something they can control. The recommendations I had is to have categories (which will have the idea description for a group of jobs), and the job listing pages. The job listing pages will then have canonical tags pointing to the category page as the primary URL to be indexed. Another opinion came from a third party that this can be seen as if we are tricking Google and would get penalised, **Is that even true? **Why would Google penalise for this if thats their recommendations in the first place? This third party suggested using nofollow on the links to these listings, or even not not index them all together. What are your thoughts? Thanks Issa

Rel=prev/next and canonical tags on paginated pages?
Hi there, I'm using rel="prev" and rel="next" on paginated category pages. On 1st page I'm also setting a canonical tag, since that page happens to get hits to an URL with parameters. The site also uses mobile version of pages on a subdomain. Here's what markup the 1st desktop page has: Here's what markup the 2nd desktop page has: Here's what markup the 1st MOBILE page has: Here's what markup the 2nd MOBILE page has: Questions: 1. On desktop pages starting from page 2 to page X, if these pages get traffic to their versions with parameters, will I'll have duplicate issues or the canonical tag on 1st page makes me safe? 2. Should I use canonical tags on mobile pages starting from page 2 to page X? Are there any better solutions of avoiding duplicate content issues?

Canonical tag question
Suppose a site has two pages ( Page A ) and Page B. Both of them have pagerank, but duplicate content. The page A is ranked for keyword "seo india" and page B is ranked for keyword "seo services". If i implement canonical tag on page B, does 1. The pagerank of page B will be transfered to Page A ? 2. Does the site A now ranks for keyword "seo servicies " ( for which Page B was ranking earlier )

Canonical Problems
Hi Guys, There is so much info out there about canonical issues and 301 redirects I'm not sure what to do about my problem. Google webmaster says I have over 2000 duplicate page titles. Google is showing most of my pages in duplicate or triplicate url format. Example: /store/LOVE_OIL_CARIBBEAN_ROSE//store/LOVE_OIL_CARIBBEAN_ROSE/store/love_oil_caribbean_rose/Im using x-cart pro as my cart. When I look at the source code I see each one having a rel=canonical tag with the exact urls you see above. Can someone give me an example of a redirect that I can put in my .htaccess file that would work site wide?I obviously cant go through and 301 this on a page by page basis. It would take a year.Thank You Tim
