How long for a 301 redirect to pass PR?
-
Hi,
How long does it take for a 301 redirect to pass PR/Juice to the new domain it's redirecting to?
From what I understand you tell Google in Webmaster tools this domain is now going to this domain and then setup a file on the old domains hosting to redirect to the new.
And that's it!
If that is correct how long does it take? 2 days, 2 weeks, months, maybe never???
Cheers

Check List:
- Move old content to the new domain
- 301 as many pages to the same content on the new domain as possible
- Submit a change of address through Google Webmaster Tools
- Contact site owners that give you high quality incoming links, request they change the links from the old site to the new site (personal preference)
- Keep building new high quality links to your site's content level pages.
Note:
If it's a brand new domain, Google is going to put your site through about a three month trial period before it accurately ranks you. From my understanding it's done to help prevent spam.

Hi there,
This is quite a tricky question and, unfortunately doesn't have a definite answer.
As long as you have set up the 301 redirect in your .htaccess file correctly and have informed Google, then this is all you can do. From here, it will depend on when Google next crawls your website (this differs per website). It could be today, tomorrow, next week, next month...
There are ways that you can get Google to crawl your site more often though. Add regular content to your website, submit a sitemap and keep it updated, etc.
At this point though, it is a waiting game.
Hope this has cleared things up,
Matt.

For URLs that require login, should our redirect be 301 or 302?
We have a login required section of our website that is being crawled and reporting as potential issues in Webmaster Tools. I'm not sure what the best solution to this is - is it to make URLs requiring a login noindex/nocrawl? Right now, we have them 302 redirecting to the login page, since it's a temporary redirect, it seems like it isn't the right solution. Is a 301 better?

Does link equity to a page that is 301'd to a new domain pass juice on?
If we build some quality inbound links to certain pages, that are a later date 301'd to another domain, does any equity or juice get transferred across? Or is the inbound link's value wasted? Thanks

Moving to subdirectory from subdomain, where subdomain PR is equal to root domain PR
Hi all, I'm currently in the process of revitalizing my company's blog. Currently, the blog sits on a subdomain (blog.rootdomain.com). SEO best practice dictates that I should move this (and 301 redirect the old URLs) to rootdomain.com/blog to concentrate link equity and avoid the risk of having search engines treat the subdomain as separate from the root domain. However, the PageRank Status extension for Chrome is reporting that the PR for the blog on the subdomain and the root domain are the same. Is there any benefit to migrating the subdomain to a subdirectory? Is that data accurate enough to base decisions off of?

Language Detection redirect: 301 or 302?
We have a site offering a voip app in 4 languages. Users are currently 302 redirected from the root page to /language subpages, depending on their browser language. Discussions about the sense of this aside: Is it correct to use a 302 redirect here or should users be 301 redirected to their respective languages? I don't find any guideline on this whatsoever...

How To 301 Redirect .html pages
I need to redirect a page/URL that is purely .html to a new location. I don't know how to do this. All the redirects I can find are for server side code pages .php/.aspx etc. From my understanding I can't put a server side redirect in a .html file. I am hosting on a microsoft server, however the new page I am redirecting to is .php. I am running some WordPress (.php) files on the server. I need to make it redirect before the old page loads so visitors don't start reading something that is about to get redirected Can someone please help me?
