SEOMOZ Crawling Our Site
-
Hi there,
We get a report from SEOMOZ every week which shows our performance within search. I noticed for our website www.unifor.com.au that it looks through over 10,000 pages, however our website sells less than 500 products so not sure why or how so many pages are trawled? If someone could let me know that would be great. It uses up a lot of bandwidth doing each of these searches so if the amount of pages being trawled reduced it would definitely assist.
Thanks,
Geoff

That's a question best answered by a programmer and/or someone who is familiar with the code of your site. Sorry I can't help more!

Hi Adam,
Thanks - how do you change the navigation so each page is linked with a single URL?
Thanks
-
If SEOmoz is crawling all those duplicate/unnecessary URLs, the search engines probably are, too.
Best solution: Change the navigation on your site so that each page is linked to using a single URL.

Thanks Adam.
Have had a look and it looks like the crawlers are cycling through numerous unnecessarily crawled pages for each product based on the top and bottom nav bar on our website (i.e. it adds FAQ and Shipping Info for each product + all the categories we have created on the website). Attached is an image link of some lines from the CSV file.
I imagine this is what is making it chew up bandwidth. Any insight on how to avoid / change this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Geoff

In addition to what Adam said, you can just search your site on Google and I come up with over 14,000 results:
Both ways should give you a good insight into what's being found.

Hi Geoff,
There are multiple reasons your site could have "extra" pages: tag pages, category pages, print this pages, duplicate pages, etc.
To see what pages SEOmoz is crawling:
- Go to http://pro.seomoz.org/campaigns
- Click View This Campaign for your site
- Click Crawl Diagnostics
- At the top right, Export as CSV
- You'll get a spreadsheet listing all the URLs that SEOmoz crawled
Hope that helps!
~Adam

Moz Crawl Test: WordPress sites with and without /feed and /trackback entires?
I have multiple WP websites and on some of the websites, on my Moz Crawl test, I see an entry for every blog post but also entries for /feed and /trackback for that single blog post. For example, www...com/someArticle www....com/someArticle/feed www...com/someArticle/trackback 1. Can anyone explain why the Crawl test is picking up the /feed and /trackback items? Is it simply because they are 301 redirects to the original post (www...com/someArticle)? 2. What setting(s) in WordPress are making this information appear? Or is it just that the site(s) that have the /feed and /trackback are displaying "normal" behavior for a WP site with a lot of trackbacks and feed entires? 3. Should /fee and /trackback, as well as /author be blocked in robots.txt? Thanks in advance for your advice and input!

Open Site Explorer detects links from a site that redirects to it? How is this possible?
I was checking external links to a site: scte-brasilien.de/ and was wondering why there are so many links pointing from another domain (reisen-nach-brasilien.com/) although it redirects to scte-brasilien.de/? So when checking the redirecting domain OSE knows its redirecting... The URL you've entered redirects to another URL. We're showing results for scte-brasilien.de/ since it is likely to have more accurate link metrics. See data forreisen-nach-brasilien.com/ instead? How is this possible? best regards

Crawl diagnostics taking too long
I started a crawl 2 days ago and it was still going after almost 48 hours so I deleted the entire campaign and resubmitted it. It's been 13 hours and still going. What happened to getting initial results in 2 hours? I've never had this problem and have run several campaign crawls here. Just wondering if there is a known issue I just can't seem to find? Thank you

Open Site Explorer
Hi - open site explorer always showed backlinks to my site's blog for Wordpress, a couple of edu sites and others that ranked somewhat high. These are no longer being shown. However, they do show up on some other backlink check tools. Does anyone know why and if this should be a concern? Thanks. Don www.uniquegiftsanddecor.com

Can I combine SEOmoz Campaigns.
Basically I am in internal SEO. We subscribe to SEOmoz and we have 5 campaign spots. each with their own allocation of keywords. Ideally I only want to track our site and not 4 other's. I've currently setup the campaign a couple of times with different keywords, but it would be much better if I could choose what allocates to what. I.e. 2 campaign tokens to one site and 3 to another or just 5 to one site. Is this possible, and if not why not?

Why is the SEOmoz crawler crawling the old version of our website?
Hello, I'm a new SEOmoz member. On Dec. 2nd, after completely redesigning our website, we migrated to a new hosting company by switching our DNS to the new server. The vast majority of the URLs have changed and we configured redirects of the old URLs to the new ones. Although, this task is not completed yet. After the migration, I created an account on SEOmoz to be able to track our progress and find the issues to fix to optimize our SEO. For some reason, in the SEOmoz reports it is the old URLs that show up. Unless the crawler does not actually crawl the pages and only uses the indexed pages to generate its report, I don't understand how could this possible. Anyone has a clue? When will the new URLs be indexed by SEOmoz and the major search engines? Thanks for your help!
