I have an 404 error but what does that mean? I go to the site and click on the link to exampleX.com there is no problem. What can it be?

The error message

A 404 error means the page is not found/it doesn't exist. My guess is that you accidentally linked to exampleX.com somewhere on your page with this URL http://www.example.com/www.example.com/exampleX.html. Simply change that to http://www.example.com/exampleX.html. Otherwise, it's hard to tell specifically without seeing the actual link/page so please provide the actual links here or you can PM me if you don't want them to be made public.

Errors In Search Console

Hi All, I am hoping someone might be able to help with this. Last week one of my sites dropped from mid first day to bottom of page 1. We had not been link building as such and it only seems to of affected a single search term and the ranking page (which happens to be the home page). When I was going through everything I went to search console and in crawl errors there are 2 errors that showed up as detected 3 days before the drop. These are: wp-admin/admin-ajax.php showing as response code 400 and also xmlrpc.php showing as response code 405 robots.txt is as follows: user-agent: * disallow: /wp-admin/ allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php Any help with what is wrong here and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. No link data in many of my clients GSC profiles !!

Yoast SEO. After set up 404 error pages

Hello all, Something strange happened with my blog site. I recently signed to MOZ tools. Initially everything was fine, but during my last crawl I got loads of 404
pages. Few days ago I was tweaking some settings in SEO plugin according to this post https://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success What I noticed was that 404 pages were coming from my blog posts, but for
some reason category was missing in those posts. For example this link is 404
https://a-fotografy.co.uk/inchcolm-island-wedding-photography-bailie The one with category is https://a-fotografy.co.uk/wedding-pictures/inchcolm-island-wedding-photography-bailie/ So basically for some reason category was missing. Please let me know how can I fix this instead of doing hundreds of
redirects now. Thank you,

"HTTP error: 404 not found" submitting YOAST SITEMAP

When I upload the YOAST site map to google webmaster i get "HTTP error: 404 not found" just for the portfolio tag and categories..For other things iI dont get any i kinf of errors Is it because i dont have any tags and categories of portfolio element? I have to say in my template I have the portfolio post option but im not using it. Tx

What to do with 404 errors when you don't have a similar new page to 301 to ??

Hi If you have 404 errors for pages that you dont have similar content pages to 301 them to, should you just leave them (the 404's are optimised/qood quality with related links & branding etc) and they will eventually be de-indexed since no longer exist or should you 'remove url' in GWT ? 404 and Duplicate Content.

I just submitted my first campaign. And it's coming up with a LOT of errors. Many of them I feel are out of my control as we use a CMS for RV dealerships. But I have a couple of questions. I got a 404 error and SEO Moz tells me the link, but won't tell me where that link originated from, so I don't know where to go to fix it. I also got a lot of duplicate content, and it seems a lot of them are coming from "tags" on my blog. Is that something I should be concerned about? Google Webmaster tools error?

So I am trying to set the URL preference in google webmaster tools for my site. However when I try to save it it tells me to verify that I own the site. I have already done this so where can I go to verify I own the site exactly? Maybe I am wrong and I have not done this already but even on the homepage of webmaster tools I don't see an option to "verify".
