Local Rankings Drop?
-
G'morning!
I got a disturbing report this morning that showed seven of our big keywords drop from high on the first page to not in the top 50. After further research I have found that we are now in Google's local cluster, but no longer on the traditional organic results.
My question is this, has Google changed something that doesn't allow results in the local cluster AND in the traditional organic listings? I'm assuming that this is the case because we're doing smart SEO and have built these rankings up nicely over time, but then just fell off the face of the earth.
I have attached a snapshot of Moz's Ranking History for a few of the keywords, as I assume this will help explain the story. (We're in green).
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello JPretz,
What you are experiencing is a common phenomenon in which your former organic rankings get subsumed into your new blended/local rankings. These blended/local rankings are made up of many factors, including organic ones.It used to be common for strong businesses to dominate page 1 of the SERPs. They might have several organic rankings, a local ranking, citations from 3rd parties, video sources and etc., all on one page. Around the time of the Venice update in March (see: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/understand-and-rock-the-google-venice-update), I and many other Local SEOs noticed this had changed. For the most part, if a company had a local listing, they no longer had an organic one and vice versa. There has been some fluctuation in this display, but I still find this to be the way of things for most businesses, even in tiny niche verticals in rural locations.
That being said, a couple of the Local SEOs I know have managed in the past to secure a double ranking since Venice. Linda Buquet of CatalysteMarketing is one who comes instantly to mind, as she published a post about getting a double ranking for a dentist:
And here's a similar piece from Adam Steele:
http://www.nightlitemedia.com/2012/05/organic-and-google-places-ranking-on-page-1/Basically, the concept of double rankings revolves around the optimization of a secondary page. I've never engaged in this, and I believe Linda actually recently saw the double-ranked dentist results changes. She and I work together in her Local Search Forum, and I believe she mentioned this to me, so this may all have changed again. I know she was offering training on this in her Advanced Places Training course, but am not sure of the status of this tactic/training at this point. You might like to get in touch with her.
At any rate, what you are experiencing is common and there is even discussion going on in the local sphere as to whether local inclusion causes traffic drops (making it preferable to remain organic). The thing is, this stuff changes almost daily, so the best we can typically due is keep up with the news and changes.
Hope the articles I've linked to will be helpful.

I'VE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT BUT STILL GET LOW GOOGLE RANKING
Moz Pro Dashboard compared my site to three competitors' site. My site is better in every aspect. My DA is higher, I have four times more external links, I have more relevant content than my competition, my site also is the fastest, I have solved all redirect issues, there is no broken link internally or externally. We are custom home builders. So all our sites have numerous full screen images. I have optimized all of them. When I ran WebPageTest on my competition, they all fail. My site got A's in all categories. The three competitors' sites rank first, second and third. My site ranks bottom on the 2nd page. Since my site was online last January, I have spent thousands of dollars on SEO work. Its url is www.pokudesign.com I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. I am attaching a screen shot of my Moz Pro Dashboard. frEpZ

Competitor Ranks Highly Despite LOTS of Duplication
One of my Moz campaigns tracks my main competitor. I can't get over the fact that this competitor continues to rank well despite having thousands of duplication issues while I currently have less than 10. Our websites are similar both structurally and product-wise. The two images attached include OSE comparisons for the keyword "kraft envelopes". My competitor ranks #2 for the term, while I rank #9. I don't get why! And again, looking from a top-level perspective, MOZ shows that my competitor's website is full of duplication issues and other problems while my site is healthy as a horse. All responses are greatly appreciated. QmSlfET.jpg 9CDny60.jpg

Has anyone else experience their Domain Authority Drop in the last 2 weeks to their sites
Has anyone else experienced their Domain Authority Score Drop in the last 2 weeks. I have 6 sites and all of their DA dropped between 2-4 points. At the beginning I thought it was just my Wordpress sites, but it happened to all my sites. If anyone has any answers, please enlighten me. Is it Google? Last time this happened was in March 2013 and raised all the scores back up and now as of lately, they all have dropped. Kin Regards, David

Is there a way to manually update the keyword rankings tool in SEOmoz?
It appears that our keyword rankings update weekly on Thursdays. Is this the same across the board or is there a way to manually run an update?

Ranking history lost
Hi there, It seems I have lost all the ranking history on all my keywords. I have only checked two campaigns - kodega.de and weddingrings-direct.com and none of the keyword show any historical movement any more, something I found very useful. Please let me know if this is just a glitch or if something has really stopped working as my account has been up and running for quite some time now. Many thanks, Julian
