Duplicate content for www & non-www results
-
why would my campaign show duplicate content entries for www & non-www versions of my url?
Here's an example
I have a page called 'mydomain.com/resources/', and the campaign analysis shows it as being duplicate content, with the duplicate being 'www.mydomain.com/resources'.
I don't know where I can adjust this or if it is perhaps related to some other setting, like Google Analytics or something else.

Are you on a Microsoft or Apache server? The instructions are a little different for each, but you'll want to redirect your non-www to your www (or vice versa). You don't want two different URLs for the same content, which is what is happening right now.

Hi Andy,
I do use a CMS on this site (my own site) however, it doesn't create duplicate pages.
I don't force or restrict the www prefix at all.

Thanks Maurizio,
I suspect it's a setting within Google Analytics account that is the route cause in this case.
While pages themselves load with or without www specified, the sitemap.xml and all internally linking do not use the www prefix at all.
I'm aware of forcing it using .htaccess, but looking to see if there's some underlying configuration that I can adjust.

Hi Gregory,
Is this the only kind of instance of duplicated content? I only ask as some platforms (Wordpress, Joomla) can create duplicate pages which require a bit of work to sort out. These don't tend to be www / non-www issues though.

i think that you can use webmaster tools of google, and decide to use you domain with www or without www
you can also redirect with .htacces (linux) - IIS (Windows) to www.domain.com ----> domain.com
or
domain.com------>www.domain.com
after some days the crawler understand that you have only one domain and so you can avoid duplicate content.
Ciao

Outranked for own content
One of my clients has a travel site and is syndicating apartment listings to the likes of tripadvisor and flipkey. I've just done an SEO audit for them and noticed that when searching for snippets of text from within an apartment listing, these aggregator sites outrank my client by miles (which is the original creator of the content). How would you suggest tackling this issue? We can't give up the aggregator sites as they're bringing in sales. The first solution that comes to mind is send different descriptions to aggregator sites than the content on our site, however this would mean rewriting a ton of content. Any other suggestions on how to treat aggregator/comparison shopping sites?

Could duplicate content be helpful to the original source?
Greetings Mozzers, I'm wondering if duplicate content could potentially function as a "link" in Google's eyes. Since they know I have content first and then someone else just uses it, Google could maybe think of that as a recommendation that the content is good? Reason I ask is, when I first starting going after a keyword for a company I wanted to go after two (2) separate regions, let's say "San Antonio" and "Dallas". My non-region based keyword started to rank for "San Antonio Keyword" because the content on the San Antonio page was too closely related. So i'm wondering if maybe having that content so close/duplicate may have boosted the original page because it was kind of like a recommendation? Thoughts, Information, Clarification, any and all are welcome and appreciated!

How come the results in Google vary with domains
Hello, How is everyone doing? My question is about the google search engine results page. How come some results have the www. in front of them and some don't. Also what are the SEO implications of having www. in front of your search results vs. not. Is this something to do with canonical? I have included a screen shot so you will see what I mean. One result is www.gearyi.com and the result without the www is ingenexdigital.com. R6GLL.png

Different SERP results in browsers / different result pages for keyword in browser
Hi, I am making the SEO reports for a travel agency and I have the following problem. SEOmoz shows me the website is on page 1, for a keyword. Yesterday, a google search with firefox showed me the same position, while, searching from a different computer on google using firefox gave me another position. The URL shown was also different. I asked some friends to do the search - the results were the same - first page. Today, firefox shows me the second URL on the 4'th page, and the result from the first page of google does not appear, while Chrome still shows me the first URL on the first page. I have no idea why the URL that was ranking well does not appear on the first page with Firefox, and why it appears on the first page with Chrome, or why the URL that was ranking bad -meaning page 4, appears on Firefox but does not appear on Chrome. Can someone give me some advice?
