How to un-answer a question?
-
Being new here I'm pressing all sorts of buttons and breaking things...
I posted a question, liked someone's answer so click "good answer" thinking it was like a "thumbs up" but it actually set my question to "answered".
How does one set their own question to un-answered?
-
Yes. You are correct. They are called MozPoints. To get more info click on your profile and then click on the "MozPoints" hyperlink. A popup will open and tell you everything about MozPoints.
-
Ah so people get points?! I'll have to research what they do but don't worry Dana, the points you shall keep!
But yes, a good feature would be to be able to set a question to unanswered.
-
Hey guys! Thanks for jumping in here. You definitely bring up a good question and the answer is unfortunately that right now you can't change that. We do have a number of issues in the queue to be fixed, and I'll check to see if that's in there as well.
Sorry I don't have a better answer right now!

Good suggestion Nakul!

The question remains open for answers anyways...but you may want to post it as an ongoing discussion instead of a question. I don't think there's anything that can be done except to post it again.
-
LOL - Okay, I'm the answerer so it's against my own self-interest to jump in and try to help here, lol, but hey, that's the kind of community SEOMoz is.
I actually went into some of my own old Q&A questions and tried to uncheck some answers to see if I could figure out how to do it. No matter what I did I could get the answer to flag from "asnwered" to "unanswered." You can easily change a thumbs up by clicking thumbs down instead and then you can change it back to thumbs up again by clicking thumbs up again.
I think you bring up a great usability point. I totally agree that we should be able to change a question from "answered" to "unanswered," because sometimes we think we have a workable answer but then it doesn't work or requires follow up.
No worries. I don't mind losing the points. I don't want points if I didn't really answer a question.
Dana

Question for Moz developers - Highcharts?
So, I see that Moz is using Highcharts as it's charting display engine. What made you decide to use them instead of some of the other solutions out there, like FusionCharts or Google Charts, even creating your own home-made creation?
Moz Pro | | MrSchadow
Our company is starting over from scratch with reports/charts and are looking at other solutions than what we currently are using (fusioncharts/fusion widgets). And I wanted to get feedback on why you chose this route over any other. Thanks!!0 -
Page authority questions?
I've been analyzing some IT communities ...in order to check how relevant is the page authority vs PageRank. I found one main site which is organized by "communities'..and every community is a sub-domain. The root domain has an authority of 90/100 which it should be great......so the sub-domains "inherit" part of this authority.... Until here everything seems to be perfect. However, I went deeper and I picked one of these communities. Analyzing the "Linking Root Domain" I discovered it only has only 5 root domains pointing to its home page. Those 5 Root Domains have generated more than 134k links. That doesn't seem to be "natural". Checking those 5 Root Domains I discovered that they have been registered by the same Root Domain site. Ex: Main domain: Domain.com Community1.domain.com Community2.domain.com.... Linking Root Domains: DomainXY.com DomainABC.com DomainRST.com DomainFGH.com DomainOPQ.com It seems to me that it is easy to cheat the authority domain score. Just creating others sites developing the same topic and generating back links to your main domain

Some questions on Canonical tag AND 301 redirect
Hi everyone, I'm new here - always loved SEOMoz and glad to be part of the Pro community now. I have 2 questions regarding the Canonical URL tag. Some background info: We used to run an OsCommerce store, and recently migrated to Magento. In doing so, we right away created 301 redirects of the old category pages (OsCommerce) to the new category pages (Magento) via the Magento admin. Example: www.example.com/old-widget-category.html
Moz Pro | | yacpro13
301 redicrected to
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html In Magento admin, we have enabled the Canonical tag for all product and category pages. Here's how Magento sets up the Canonical tag: The URL of interest which we want to rank is:
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html However Magento sets up the canonical tag on this page to point to:
www.example.com/old-widget-category.html When using the SEOMoz On Page Report Card, it pick this up as an error because the Canonical tag is pointing to a different URL. However, if we dig a little deeper, we see that the URL being pointed to
www.example.com/old-widget-category.html
has a 301 redirect to
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html
which is the URL we wan to rank. So because we set up a 301 redirect of the old-page to the new-page, on the new-page the canonical tag points to the old-page. Question 1)
What are you opinions on this? Do you think this method of setting up the Canonical tag is acceptable? Second question... We use pagination for category pages, so if we have 50 products in one category, we would have 5 pages of 10 products. The URL's would be: www.example.com/new-widget-category.html (which is the SAME as ?p=1)
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=1
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=2
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=3
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=4
www.example.com/new-widget-category.html?p=5 Now ALL the URLs above have the canonical tag set as:
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.example.com/new-widget-category" /> However, the content of each page (page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) is different because different products are displayed. So far most what I read regarding the Canonical tag is that it is used for pages that have the same content but different URLs. I would hope that Google would combine the content of all 5 pages and view the result as a single URL www.example.com/new-widget-category Question 2) Is using the canonical tag appropriate in the case described above? Thanks !0 -
Where can I view all of the Questions that I have Subscribed to?
I recently asked a question about viewing the questions I have answered already: http://www.seomoz.org/q/where-can-i-view-all-of-the-questions-that-i-have-answered It turns out the link was right under my nose (but it appears a lot of people were having this issue). I'm now having the problem of not being able to see where I can view all the Q&As that I have subscribed to. Again, I may just be missing a link that's right in front of me but it certainly isn't obvious. Any help much appreciated!
