Duplicate Title
-
Hi,
I am getting a "duplicate title" error for all the sites I make and I am not sure why - it's only for my homepage.
www.carolynnescottages.com.au is one for example.
It picks up the url www.carolynnescottages.com.au and also www.carolynnescottages.com.au/index The index page is the homepage.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also is there some tutorials where I can learn how to use each of the tools in seomoz properly? videos?
Thanks again.
Tammy

Hi Adam,
I really appreciate your patience with me. I have done as you have suggested and added the canonical tag to my pages and fixed the links, and told Google which is my preferred url. I think I have setup the 301 redirect - how will I know if it has worked? How long will it take?
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers,
Tammy

Hi Tammy,
You have not solved the problem and this was not the root of the problem in the first place.
You will now need to setup a 301 redirect from the non-www version (http://carolynnescottages.com.au) to the www version (http://www.carolynnescottages.com.au) as well as implement my previous recommendations. On further inspection, after doing a site: search of your site, there are both non-www and www pages indexed. You may also need to set your preferred domain in Google webmaster tools as well.
'Deleting' the carolynnescottages.com.au, as you put it (although you actually haven't deleted this as such), will not resolve the duplicate content issues you had previously.

Thank you Adam and Contributor for your prompt replies. I think I worked out the problem. I hadsetup 2 domains www.carolynnescottages.com.au and also carolynnescottages.com.au. So I deleted the second one.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
Tammy

In addition to Crimsons answer, you can also put a canonical tag on the preferred version of your homepage so that users will see both pages without being redirected but Google will understand that only one should be indexed.

Hi Tammy,
What you are experiencing is a fairly common issue. You have effectively 2 versions of your homepage; one with and one without the /index extension. Thereby creating a duplicate content issue.
You can solve this issue by implementing a 301 redirect from the /index version to the non-/index version. After implementing this redirect you will then need to update the internal linking to change any links still pointing to the old /index version. For example, if you look at your homepage at http://www.carolynnescottages.com.au/, you will notice that the links to 'Home' in the top navigation and the footer, all point to http://www.carolynnescottages.com.au/index. You will need to change these links.
Hope that helps,
Adam.

Moz analytics telling me I have duplicate content issues - how to fix this?
Hey guys, Okay I ran into moz analytics - I have I have 199 Issues, priority issues are showing 38 Duplicate page content. I began looking into the URL's and from what I have noticed from all the urls are showing me a common theme. The urls are pointing to my blog pages - my blog is using wordpress. What iv noticed is the urls all have "Tag" in it Here are 3 examples that I have found. All url's take me to a blank page: Does anyone know what the solution is to fixing this? I read the article for duplicate content covering 301 redirects and Rel=Canonical tags - I'm wondering if this would need to be considered in this case? However I find it confusing that these pages for to a blank page. https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/tag/dysfunctional-relationships/ https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/tag/change/ https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/tag/intuitive/ Appreciate some assistance.

In Crawl Diagnostics, length of title element is incorrect
Hey all, It appears the Moz crawler is misreading the number of characters in my website's page titles. It shows 72 characters for the following page's title element: http://giavan.com/products/orange-crystal-chain-necklace-with-drop The page title for this web page is: Orange Crystal Chain Necklace with Drop | Giavan which is 48 characters. As it stands, this page title is displayed at 48 characters in Google SERPs. I am getting "This Element is Too Long" issue on 925 pages, which is just about the entire site. These issues appeared after I added additional Shopify (Liquid) code to the page title. If you inspect the code, you will see title element looks a bit odd with extra spacing and line breaks. What I'd like to know is whether or not it's necessary to rewrite the Shopify code, for SEM purposes. My feeling is that it's okay because the page titles look fine in SERPs but those 925 Moz crawl errors are kind of scary. Thanks for your help!

Videos on duplicate content editing
Hi, I am looking for good videos with visual examples on how to edit duplicate content issues. I am editing a law firms website, and for the most part the duplicate issues seem to show up in tag URL's on the blog. I feel like I have maybe half of the picture figured out, but I am not sure how or where to make changes. I have gone through the crawl diagnostic issues and a few articles, but I know I am a visual learner. Therefore a video might be helpful. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get started? Thanks.

Moz says I am missing titles and meta tags and have duplicate content
I just redesigned my website and suddenly traffic has dropped. Moz says I am missing titles, meta tag descriptions and have a lot of duplicate content. My site is http://skigenie.com and is full of unique and hand written content,. Are there any wordpress plugins that will add titles etc to my pages (some of the added ones are custom)? Any help would be much appreciated!

Crawl diagnostics incorrectly reporting duplicate page titles
Hi guys, I have a question in regards to the duplicate page titles being reported in my crawl diagnostics. It appears that the URL parameter "?ctm" is causing the crawler to think that duplicate pages exist. In GWT, we've specified to use the representative URL when that parameter is used. It appears to be working, since when I search site:http://www.causes.com/about?ctm=home, I am served a single search result for www.causes.com/about. That begs the question, why is the SEOMoz crawler saying there is duplicate page titles when Google isn't (doesn't appear under the HTML improvements for duplicate page titles)? A canonical URL is not used for this page so I'm assuming that may be one reason why. The only other thing I can think of is that Google's crawler is simply "smarter" than the Moz crawler (no offense, you guys put out an awesome product!). Any help is greatly appreciated and I'm looking forward to being an active participant in the Q&A community! Cheers, Brad

I'm seeing duplicate links listed in open site explorer. Can anyone explain why this might be happening?
For each link listed in Open Site Explorer, I am seeing two identical entries. You can see why this might be a problem for both workflow and data accuracy. Any ideas why this might be happening? Is there a setting or filter that I'm missing?
