Wordpress Blogs and SEO

So far we have been creating separate blogs on wordpress.com for our sites, and writing there. Today I was told that there was better SEO hosting the blog on the actual domain.
i.e. www.widgets.com/blog instead of widget.wordpress.com
Is this true? Oddly I have had my WP beat my own URL on one account. So I am not sure if this is valid.
Can someone tell me pros and cons of both?

Hello,
The answers you have so far are all good. wp.com is a great resource but it is not great for building your brand. I use it mainly for industry leadership purposes i.e. big picture stuff so that visitor are interested in finding out more by visiting the main website.. However, no links in content.. leave that to your profile.

I would lean towards having a blog as part of your site. That way you ware always building up one sites content and links. If you have a blog on a separate domain you are effectively splitting the benefits you could be receiving and increasing the amount of work/effort required to improve/rank two sites instead of one.

There can be pro's and con's for both instances. The biggest pro you can get with a blog hosted on your domain rather than a WordPress.com blog is a cohesive brand image. I would never want my blog readers to leave my main website to read a blog on another domain, most likely they wont come back to your main website.
As far as your WP.com hosted blog beating your main URL in the SERP's, WordPress.com has a very high domain authority that can pass through to your blog and help it out a bit. You can think of that as a pro, but I see it as a con if your blog is outranking your main website.

Hi Everyone, I am currently using Moz's page optimization format to improve our website's SEO. https://mathandmovement.com/ This is the format, these are all of the areas that we need to improve for each of our website's pages, according to Moz. include 3 keywords max: <url>www.mysite.com/my-keyword-phrase</url> <page title="">2 keywords max <title>Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword - Brand</title></page> 2 keywords max: keywords in my headers 2 keywords max: keywords in my headers  <focus keyword="">1 with YOAST</focus> We are currently using the free version of YOAST for our SEO. My question to you is this, will our pages still have good SEO if we use appropriate keywords (high monthly volume, below 40 difficulty ranking, High Organic CTR,) and put them in the format above? Or since the free version of YOAST only let's us optimize 1 keyword, will we still rank for the other two/three that we put in our meta and page titles/h1s, h2s, urls, and overall paragraph text? AJAX requests and implication for SEO
Hi, I got a question in regard to webpages being served via AJAX request as I couldn't find a definitive answer in regard to an issue we currently face: When visitors on our site select a facet on a Listing Page, the site doesn't fully reload. As a consequence only certain tags of the content (H1, description,..) are updated, while other tags like canonical URLs, meta noindex,nofollow tag, or the title tag are not updating as long as you don't refresh the page. We have no information about how this will be crawled and indexed yet but I was wondering if anyone of you knows, how this will impact SEO?

SEO question
Hi there! I'm the SEO manager for 5 Star Loans. I have 2 city pages running. We are running our business in 2 locations: Berkeley, CA & San Jose, CA. For those offices we've created 2 google listings with separate gmail accounts. Berkeley (http://5starloans.com/berkeley/) ranks well in Berkeley in Gmaps and it shows on first page in organic results. However the second city page San Jose (http://5starloans.com/san-jose/) doesn't show in the Gmaps local pack results and also doesn't rank well in organic results. Both of them have authentic backlinks and reviews. It has been a year already and it's high time we knew the problem 🙂 any comment would be helpful. thanks a lot

Is hidden content bad for SEO?

Yoast Seo Plugin
When I view html code of our website, I see this from yoast plugin this. I guess there is really something wrong, especially the page 2? Why so many meta? Technical SEO issue
Hi Everyone, I have encountered a major issue in one of my clients website(kitchen appliance website). This client has 2 main websites (A & B) linked with each other representing 2 different categories of appliances. We are trying to create some brand pages that this store carries. One brand page has been created and when searching for it on SERP, the results found should be under URL A but it is under URL B. I don't know what is going on? Can someone explain me what happened?
