Well technically this is not correct - from what I understand Product Display ads are paid inclusion so SEO ranking factors still play a part of appearing or not appearing

I realize this is an old question, but thought I'd note for the record that as of May 2012, Google has announced that they are doing away with Product Search and essentially implementing PPC ads in its place. So if you continue to use what used to be Google Shopping, you will need to place bids in order to get your products to show up at the top of the results, much like AdWords works.

There is not a whole lot of information on available on the web for Google Shopping optimization but from what I have researched and few that I tried over time, here is the factors I think that do weigh in:

Reviews: Its the 'links' in Google Shopping. In Google, websites refer to other websites. In Google Shopping, customers refer to other websites

Attributes: more data you feed Google, the better they feel about ranking you higher

Price: Not 100% sure about this but definitely worth considering. Seems logical that Google wants to provide users with best deals

Hi Eric,
This should give you the basics:
- Add Keywords to Product Titles and Descriptions
- Add UPC Codes (required)
- Add Shipping cost info (required)
- Add Seller Reviews
- Add Rich Snippets
- Optimize your Product_Type column
- Only use Google's product taxonomy for google_product_category
Remember not to confuse product_type and google_product_category. Both should be used, but the latter must use the correct taxonomy. Taxonomy is downloadable from the Google Merchant Center.
Do some careful reading on that page and throughout the Merchant Center. This is one area where crossing t's and dotting i's is VERY important!
Even though google_product-category is not required for all countries and products, recommendation is to use it for ALL products. Taxonomy is available for download as both .txt and excel spreadsheet.
Make sure your feeds are clean and push them every day.

We publish a URL that GPS can crawl daily to get the most real-time update on product data. The more info you pass over to GPS the more impressions you receive and the more likely that your products will show up to a more qualified user. Do you track your conversion rate form GPS traffic?
Other general tips like free delivery, including reviews rich snippets etc will help your CTR. I would also look at your competitors product that are appearing and how they have named the product, There is usually improvements to be made on keyword placement.
One other aspect we are working on is having specific products for a GPS feed that have special offers for GPS users like xyz% off for GPS traffic, this way the price is reduced and increases the listing position. - In theory...

When looking into this the problems I have considered is you could sacrifice your base listings against your natural listings. I think it would make sense to plan the keywords your pushing for base and naturals seperate if your struggling.
I do find if you do the usual SEO optimization Google base generally lists you well as a result.
Cool idea as its shopping might be to target phrases with "Buy"

We do a lot of Google Product Search for our Ecommerce clients. Basically the feeds last for 30 days on GPS. So if you submit them once a month you will continue to show, but Google favors those who push out a new feed more frequently. One of the big things right now is to make sure you have Unique Product Identifiers like UPC or Manufacturer Part Numbers for all your products. The better quality your images of your products are (clear thumbnails, easy to understand what the product is the better for click through by users). If you name your product's with Keywords that trigger the GPS listings in organic search you will do better as well. For example if you were selling a Spider Mite Pesticide, you could just put the internal name of the product like "No Spider Mites 16oz Bottle" You would be better off calling the product "Spider Mite Killer 16oz Bottle" since that search actually brings up the GPS results in universal search. If you have a product that many sellers have, then you can get grouped in with the rest of them by using the same UPC/GTIN number as they do, or the same brand and MPN. It takes some getting used to for sure, maybe try the service called GoDataFeed as it makes it a lot easier. Lastly, categories are huge for getting your products in the right group. It is better to be in the Software -> Adobe-> Windows Adobe Design Premium category with your products than just the Software -> category. Hope that helps you out.

My company has a comprehensive set of historical images and text - hosted separately on a free museum site - it's currently displayed on our main site as an iframe. I realize the iframe brings no SEO juice to the site - but we are updating our site - and thinking of bringing the images and text to our site. I'm wondering if this could help or hurt us - the historical information is about "boat widgets" and we sell "car widgets" - could a lot of information about "boat widgets" dilute our "car widgets" seo ?

Is my site penalized by Google?
Let's say my website is aaaaa.com and company name is aaaaa Systems. When I search Google aaaaa my site do not come up at all. When I search for "aaaaa Systems" it comes up. But in WMT I see quite a few clicks from aaaaa as keyword. Most of the traffic is brand keywords only. I never received any manual penalty in WMT ever. Is the site penalized or regular algorithm issues?

Penalty from Google due to spam that was not our doing
Hi, My company has enjoyed pretty good rankings for our main keywords in Google for the past 13+ years we have been in business. We have always been very white-hat about our SEO -- always erring on the side of not doing anything rather than risking a penalty. Well, last Thursday, we received the dreaded Google penalty due to a pattern of unnatural links. The hit is devastating - we are not even in the top 50 for our own company name anymore. Through research, we believe we have found the culprit -- and it has nothing to do with any of our own actions. We operate a discussion forum, and there was a link to one of the threads that was being used as the target for a lot of link spam -- Chinese blog comments, etc. We had nothing to do with this, but obviously someone had an agenda and was working on spamming to this page. Who knows - it may have even been the company that was being discussed negatively in the thread, attempting to have us blocked. We discovered it the same day we received the penalty notice, and issued a reconsideration request, detailing what we believe we found. So far, we haven't disavowed any of the links, but I am thinking we should. We have asked Google if they're able to just turn off any link juice for that one page, especially since we don't know who is doing this spamming, and whether they will continue. Has anyone experienced something similar? How does one prevent themselves from receiving a penalty that they had nothing to do with? What is there to keep any competitor from launching a spammy link-building campaign to get their competitor removed from Google? Is there anything we can do to resolve this? Are links that are disavowed with Google Webmaster Tools removed from the Google Webmaster Profile for the domain?
Hi, Two part question - First, are links that you disavow using google webmaster tools ever removed from the webmaster tools account profile ? Second, when you upload a file to disavow links they ask if you'd like to replace the previously uploaded file. Does that mean if you don't replace the file with a new file that contains the previously uploaded urls those urls are no longer considered disavowed? So, should we download the previous disavow file first then append the new disavow urls to the file before uploading or should we just upload a new file that contains only the new disavow urls? Thanks

How to be a good SEO optimizer while competing with a good ranked Bad SEO optimizer?
My keywords are very competitive. My on page optimization report gives A grade for all the keywords I want to target to my Root domain. But my root domain does not show up on search engines for those same keywords. So thanks to SEOmoz i have managed to understand the place I lack is good link building. My competitors have done lot of link building through spamming, commenting on blogs, directories etc. Now according to good seo, this is not right. What do i do? I get digging more in it, i realized that i am getting traffic mostly for less globally searched keywords. But my competitors get high traffic from well searched keywords. How do i cope with such competition? Thanks

Hello, people. I have a quick question regarding search in Google. I use search operator [site:url] to see indexing stauts of my site. Today, I was checking indexing status and I found that Google shows different numbers of indexed pages depends on search setting. 1. At default setting (set as 10 search result shows) > I get about 150 pages indexed by Google. 2. I set 100 results shows per page and tried again. > I get about 52 pages indexed by Google. Of course I used same page URL. I really want to know which data is accurate. Please help people!!

Google Places - How do we rank
So, google places showing up on search results is great feature . . . But how can we get our results to the top? I mean I can see some terrible websites appearing at the top of the google places with their places page having no activity whatsoever. Is there a trick to this at all? What can we do to increase our ranking on Google Places because our old GOOD rankings are now appearing BELOW the map results Cheers

Check Google ban on domainname
Hello all, If I wanted to know if a domainname has a google ban on it would the following be a good idea to test it. Place an article on the domain page with unique content and then link to the page so its gets indexed and then link to the article from a well indexed page. If it doesn't get indexed there might be a ban on the page, if it does get indexed there is no ban on the page... Or are there other points I should keep in mind while doing this.
