Tracking an onpage 'event'
-
Hi all
Wondering if anyone could help out with this one please. My client is a government backed free internet safety website and in the next few days they will be launching an update on all of their pages which will let people know if their browser is out of date. For example, when you go to their site you will get a message advising you to upgrade your browser for security reasons.
They have employed the following code to check the browser
The client are keen to know how many times in a period this message is shown to users. Any idea how one would go about tracking this please. Would it involve some custom GA work, would I be able to track the hits on https://wxxxx.org/javascript/update.js in GA? I'm a little stumped. Obviously I can tell how many people loaded the page but not sure how to work out what % of them see the javascript
Many thanks for your help
Carl

This should be pretty simple. Add a line to your onLoad that looks like an event:
window.onload=function(){
try {if ($buoop.ol) $buoop.ol();}catch (e) {}
var e = document.createElement("script");
e.setAttribute("type", "text/javascript");
e.setAttribute("src", "https://wxxxx.org/javascript/upda..."); (have replaced the domain name for this example)
document.body.appendChild(e);_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','browser-warning','{browser name}']);
Whenever the message is shown, an event is fired.

You can do event tracking now within Google Analytics.
https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/eventTrackerGuide
You should be able to set up an event, and then call the event tracking within your script inside the try{} loop.

Sorry, had a thought which is probably foolish but will share anyway
Could I set up a custom Google Analytics and generate a unique GA tracking code and place it inside of the above script or would it still be picked up by the whole page?

Tool to check page size for multiple url's at once
In Google Analytics under Site Speed > Page Timings, you can see all pages and their loading time compared to the average. This is very handy to check which pages maybe need some optimization. I would also like to check the size for these pages in a similar way. There are multiple tools out there like GTmetix and Pingdom that give specific information and performance insights. The problem is that they are limited to check one url at a time. Does someone know about a tool to check the page size of multiple url’s at once (and if possible to easily export to Excel)? That way I can check which pages are big in size and research/optimize them. Thanks in advance

Analytics Tracking in China
I am setting up a Chinese domain and I was wondering if anyone has experience with using Google Analytics for tracking in the country and if it really works or if Baidu is the better solution for the website. The website will be hosted in the US so I don't know if that makes any difference with getting around "The Great Firewall". I would prefer to us GA if possible because I am extremely familiar with the platform but I am more concerned with getting accurate tracking data for the site. Thank you in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated. Brooke

How to detect where Google gets indexed URL's
Google index some kind of way some links that create duplicate content. We doesn't understand how these are created so we would like detect where Google robots find these links. We tried: Moz Crawl Diagnostics but it shows 0 as Internal Link Count for these kind of links. Find some information from Google Analytics, that maybe there is trace (site content - all content) from visitors side. There wan't. We tried to find some information in Webmaster Tools under Internal link and HTML Improvements but didn't find any trace. Tried some search commands. Is there maybe some good one to search. TO search URL's form code with https://search.nerdydata.com.

Are RSS fees tracked by Google Analytics?
In both the new GA and former version, how are RSS feeds handled by Google Analytics. If not, is there an easy means by which to account for this traffic, in order to have a better picture of traffic. Thanks. Alan

What's the final word on Image Search tracking in Google Analytics?
Sorry if this has been answered but I can't seem to get a straight answer to my questions by searching around. How is traffic referred by Google Images counted in Google Analytics? I know it used to be referral traffic from google.com/imgres. A lot of things I have read say that it should all be under google/organic now, but my site still gets referral traffic from google.com/imgres, so that can't be. However I also get traffic as google/organic that I am pretty sure is from image search, because we don't rank for the keyword normally, but we do for image search. What's the deal? How is traffic from an embedded image in a regular result page counted? How can I segment my image search traffic better? It would be great to see image search traffic as it's own medium. I found a script here -- http://jrom.net/google-images-in-google-analytics -- that looks promising, has anyone used it or can recommend another way? I haven't used the GA API very much so I want to make sure the script is kosher and won't screw up my numbers.

Ecommerce tracking problem with multiple domains on 1 web property
We recently launched 13 product marketing sites based on a Wordpress Multisite setup. To track all 13 sites we decided to use one web property, so we can use the same tracking code for all domains. To track the sites seperately, we set up a profile for each product site with a hostname filter. This works well for most stats, but eCommerce tracking is where the problem starts. Per profile we obviously want to track the products purchases on that website only. What happens now is that all purchases from all product sites are tracked on all profiles. How can we change this? Should I alter the eCommerce tracking code or can I fix this with an additional filter per profile? Thanks for your help Mozzers! Regards, Pieter van Diggele

Has Google changed its algorithm? My traffic has almost doubled and I don't know why.
My traffic has nearly doubled over the past few days, and my conversion rate has doubled as well. It looks like our rankings haven't changed... We haven't done anything to the site recently, although we did submit a couple of press releases through the wire not too long ago (within the last few weeks). I do not think that this is a cyclical/seasonal jump in traffic because last year this did not occur. Any ideas?
