Traffic dropped 75% - Panda 2 Penalized?

Hello everyone,
My e-commerce website traffic dropped by 75% overnight, on April 12th. The website has been around since 2003 and growing every year. Over the years gained some great placement for some competitive keywords and stayed on page 1 for some time. After the Panda update, some of our major keywords dropped from page 1 to page 10. The first Panda update had a slightly negative effect on us, by bumping up all the brand's websites (brands we carry) placing the brands in the first couple positions (giving them 2-3 first spots) pushing us down. However, the Panda 2 killed us.
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my situation.
Did anyone ever have luck or would recommend contacting Google, and asking them for advise or reasons why the site was dropped.

Actually my recommendation is to not noindex category or pagination pages. They each need a unique title, meta description & h1 tag, and categories need quality descriptive content on the 1st (default) page in the pagination sequence.
I would not have that content repeat on subsequent pages in category pagination sequence - allowing each of those to stand alone as supporting pages - the unique products on each should be enough to communicate uniqueness of content if you've got thumbnails and captions for each.
I would use noindex/follow on all other filter types though, or block those filters from search bots altogether (it's easier to do noindex/follow).

content scraping is a challenge, to say the least. going after scrapers is monumental. I bet they scraped by sucking up the feed that bizrate uses. The best defense against such action is to provide a different description to bizrate than that which you use on the site. Yes, it's more work, however it can help a lot.
Whether Google recognizes bizrate for what it is or not, I honestly don't know. I do know that the overriding scrape issue and the potential that bizrate's pages are battling yours dictates the two different description solution.

Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my site. I didn't think of searching exact match on descriptions. But now that I did, I see the same site (with different domain) scraped my site and using my product descriptions.
hoodieswebsitedesigner.com, <cite>coolauthentichoodies.com, etc.</cite>
In addition, I found another online store that are steeling our descriptions, <cite>summerfashionshop.com</cite>
And finally, as you have pointed out, Bizrate also shows up, however these are our listings on Bizrate.
Having all this data, what can I do about Google seeing my site as the content owner. And also, does Google realize that Bizrate uses our descriptions, since they are linking back to our product pages?

Great Insight Alan. Awesome observation! Ecommerce websites are faced with faceted navigation, duplicate content and canonical URL issues. Thats why ecommerce websites are more prone to relegation on Google updates.
Something has to change drastically on the way ecommerce websites exist. Otherwise, Google may end up delisting or relegating a huge number of such websites.

I've had the opportunity (misfortune?) to perform audits on a few ecommerce sites that saw a major hit due to Panda. I can tell you that Google set up a mechanism for submitting your site to let them know. You won't however, get individual site reconsideration, you'll simply be giving them an opportunity to include your site in their ongoing evaluation process. And be able to commiserate with others.
Taking a quick look at your site here's a few factors:
**1. Duplicate product descriptions. **
I pulled up a random product on your site and did an exact match search for the first line in the product description. I got your site among some bizrate.com listings, and a couple rogue sites.
Having a truly unique description for every product page is critical. It should be at least a few paragraphs long. Yes, that's a massive time-suck. However it's one of the most significant factors in the long list of factors.
2. Topical Confusion
With so many sorting options included in primary navigation (New Arrivals, full catalog, Sale, Final Sale links up top as well as the entire left sidebar navigation that's site-wide), you're not doing anything to help Google comprehend content relationships that are unique on the site. Many of these pages are purely pagination with no unique content other than product images, a one word product name, and price. There's no way any of that content can stand out as truly strong content pages uniquely identified to a particular set of important phrases.
There's also no navigation breadcrumbs, which would reinforce topical relationship focus and separation.
3. Inbound Link Profile
A quick check in OpenSiteExplorer.org shows the majority of links contain "swimsuit" anchor text. Overall, there are hardly any phrases built around variations such as "bikinis" or "women's bathing suits" or any of countless other variations - without that breadth, your site is too heavy on too few variations.
That's just an overview that should get you going in the right direction, however it's just what stood out in a quick review.

Is it possible to reverse a G algo update (Penguin/Panda)?
...if yes, how? Can you share resources / blogs / etc... I want to reverse my site's rankings. Here's the gist of it: I recently purchased a website that has 600+ pieces of aged content on it. Domain was ranking great about 10 years ago (1M uniques a year) It apparently got hit by a G algo update in 2012/2013 (Penguin and Panda?), because the rankings have tanked (10 hits a day) In the past two years, the previosu owner published about 100+ off-topic blog posts and it appears been using the site as a PBN. The UX sucks and there's a ton of 404s. (NOTE: I am in the process of removing that content and have cleaned up the 404s). Domain stats: 20+ years old (1998) and DA 32, linking domains 850+, inbound links of 16k+ What I've done: disavow (550 domains), fix all the 404s What I'm doing / about to do: remove spammy content write new/fresh on-topic content update the site UX start a backlink building campaign My questions: is it common to bounce back from a G algo update? is it hard / am I over my head / am I a sucker trying to get the site back alive? are there articles about bouncing back that you can share so I can learn more about this process? Or agencies / consultants, etc that you recommend? what other recommendations / suggestions do you have that would help reverse this 8-year-old penalty?

Sudden drop in traffic since website redesign – can't spot double firing sessions pre-update
Hi all, We launched an updated website around mid-April and have seen a long-term drop in unique page views and sessions since then. Between 25-35%. Page views returned to normal within a month, however. In terms of acquisition, we've not lost referrals or direct traffic, just organic sessions. I haven't seen any significant Google updates except for 'Fred' but that was in March (pre-website update). We did have to do some 301s and fix up an HTML and XML sitemap, etc, post launch – but that's been in place for a while now so shouldn't still have such an effect? We are also struggling with load speed at the moment, working on this at the moment. Didn't think this had a such a significant impact on ranking however. We've lost mostly non-UK traffic, especially USA. We're actually climbing rankings for a lot of new keywords I'm targeting, so I can't see how our SEO has been hampered. Frustratingly, I wasn't using Search Console or Moz Pro before this update, so can't compare much in the way of keyword traffic (I know I feel very silly now). I don't know if it's a reporting issue (I wish it was). I mean we had both GTM and GA tags on the website (I didn't know this until I looked into it) but these were present post website-launch. And I haven't found enough double firing sessions or page views to suggest we used to be getting double figures anyway. Before this, we were ranking brilliantly and getting more organic traffic than ever. All the best,

How can I distinguish new visitors from existing (customers) in Google Analytics to attain an avg # of new visitor traffic per day/week?
i do marketing for a business software site where we have hundreds of clients and each account has on avg 100 users. I am having a very challenging time to attempting to figure out the real number of unique traffic that our site receives. **(what's creating the issue is that we have thousands of user accounts where our users log-in via our site to access our app/platform). We have a client that wants to apply UTM URL tagging to track local organic traffic in Google Analytics. Is there any benefit in doing this?
One of our clients requested that we apply UTM URL tagging to better track organic traffic in Google Analytics. We found this to be an odd request because we are most familiar with UTM tracking for special campaigns (referral tracking, PPC, email tracking, etc). Is there any benefit of applying UTM tags to urls to analyze local organic traffic in Google Analytics? Are there any resources out there about this? Thanks!

Senuke and traffic generator program is a good idea?? I think i got some problems now.
First of all thanks for reading, especially if you are the one whose bright ideas will help me out:) I started using senuke xcr about 3 months ago, obviously at the beginning i didnt make much success(not like I do now). Later i bought that inferno thingy and it actually works. First 2 weeks didnt make much difference(although i could see some little but stable uprising) but after 4th week ended, the average impression and queries doubled up, 6th went up again, its like every week or two it jumps up and keeps it there. Also the actual traffic from keywords went up! When about the second week finished, i started using a traffic generator program, first it leveled out the impressions and seemed to help a bit. Lately i think it messed it all up, plus about 2 weeks ago there was 2-3 dayswhen i sent a bit more traffic than usual and around that time the average rising of impressions didnt happened, it might even went down. Now i stopped using traffic g. and everything stayed the same no improvement!! Anyone could help me? I need to get it moving up again! Also im still nowhere near the top as the keywords are competitive well at least for me. What do i do wrong and what should i do? Also what about traffic generator? ps is it safe or/and or allowed to write that? Thanks

Moved Up in SERPS & Traffic, Need Help Converting
Hello, After listening to the advice of many of you on this forum, I have managed to move my site up in the SERPS, close enough to where I want/need to be. My traffic has increased heavily, yet I am still not seeing a large increase in orders being placed. Abnormal Spike in Traffic- Ddos or what?
We've noticed a 100% increase in our traffic over the last three days. However, the page views have not increased proportionately. The traffic sources seemed to be dispersed naturally. Could this be a Ddos in the making or some other type of attack as it seems unlikely that we suddenly started receiving thousands of extra visitors. Its a leading news website with a consistent heavy traffic daily which just doubled over the last three days. What should we be looking at?
