Making one landing page rank higher than another
-
I have a website which uses an individual landing pages to greet traffic for each suburb in our service area. For a long time we had one landing page which covered a region of suburbs but we've since added individual pages for those suburbs as well. However, Google will always display results for the old regional page, even though the new pages are optimized for searches in that area.
Is there anything I can do to get Google to display the pages I want?

Brad has hit the nail on the head. Very clear, concise advice on what to do!

Not going to rehash what has already been mentioned. Just want to say think Brad covers what you need to do. Take a look at that and get back to us.

Hi Mark,
You should do a combination of:
- Make sure the individual landing pages are highly optimised for relevant local-type searches
- Good internal linking strategy to the individual landing pages with optimised anchor text
- Link building externally to these new individual landing pages
- 'De-optimising' the existing larger landing page so that it's not optimised for smaller, local-type searches but rather just large/generic searches. I.e not optimised for suburbs, but perhaps for a region
Thanks,
Brad

SERP Ranking Page Filp Flop Confusion
Hello all, I've been having some weird stuff going on between one of my landing pages and the Homepage. What's happening is, the page showing up in the SERP keeps flip-flopping, but not only that, when it flips to the landing page it will drop 70 positions. Then when it flips back to the homepage it goes back to around position 19. So confused about what is happening. I think the two pages are fighting for the same keyword as they both have the keyword in the meta title. Homepage >( <title>PresenterMedia - PowerPoint Templates, 3D Animations, and Clipart</title> ) Landing Page >( <title>PowerPoint Templates at PresenterMedia.com</title> ) I've seen other answers about the flip-flopping thing, but not sure about dropping 70 positions thing that is going on. Does this huge drop tell me the better page to rank is the homepage instead of the landing page this targeting this keyword? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Wrong Page Ranking?!?
I did some research today, one of our keywords is "mobile column lifts." I recently redid a page on our website to target this keyword. When I Google search this keyword I see that a page on our site titled "Reconditioned Mobile Lifts" is ranking for this keyword. I took a look with Moz, our mobile column lifts page ranks 90 for the keyword, and the reconditioned lifts page ranks 73 the keyword. Why is this happening? How can I fix this? https://www.slec.com/mobile-column-lifts/ https://www.slec.com/reconditioned-mobile-lifts/

Why has google stopped showing one domain and switching to showing another that points to the same website?
My client has a website here: http://www.savannahchiropractic.com/ The site ranked really well for searches for the term "savannah chiroprtactor". Sometime last week (April 21 mobilegeddon?) the site slipped in rankings, but reappeared under the domain name: "www.whitemarshchiropractic.com" Both URLs go to the exact same site. and I don't even think that the whitemarshchripractic.com site is a redirect. I'm not sure how it's setup, but it's definitely not a duplicate site. The ranking is still lower than the savannahchiropractic.com site, but now appears. Anyone have any insights on this?

How come only 2 pages of my 16 page infographic are being crawled by Moz?
Our Infographic titled "What Is Coaching" was officially launched 5 weeks ago. http://whatiscoaching.erickson.edu/ We set up campaigns in Moz & Google Analytics to track its performance. Moz is reporting No organic traffic and is only crawling 2 of the 16 pages we created. (see first and third attachments) Google Analytics is seeing hundreds of some very strange random pages (see second attachment) Both campaigns are tracking the url above. We have no idea where we've gone wrong. Please help!! 16_pages_seen_in_wordpress.png how_google_analytics_sees_pages.png what_moz_sees.png

Are multiple sites needed to rank one website?
My SEO guy for a mortgage website says that we should have 30 websites, with about 250 pages each on each site plus 50 blogs in order to even think of ranking for mortgage keywords. Is that correct?

Will a drop in indexed pages significantly affect Google rankings?
I am doing some research into why we were bumped from Google's first page into the 3rd, fourth and fifth pages in June of 2010. I always suspected Caffeine, but I just came across some data that indicates a drop in indexed pages from 510 in January of that year to 133 by June. I'm not sure what happened but I believe our blog pages were de-indexed somehow. What I want to know is could that significant drop in indexed pages have had an effect on our rankings at that time? We are back up to over 500 indexed pages, but have not fully recovered our first page positions.
