New TLD's released Jan 1st 2013\. Who's in ?
-
Hey Mozzers,
Auctions for new top level domains (examples of top level domains are: .com, .net, .info, .org etc) concluded in the summer and will become available from january 1st.
Did anybody bid/buy a new tld or know someone who did?
And who has plans to register new exact match domains?
My hobby is poker and i have a big passion for it so im already thinking about .poker domains. play.poker, texasholdem.poker etc.
Here is an overview with TLD's that will come available:|
http://www.newgtldsite.com/new-gtld-list/I also like .amsterdam (my home town) as TLD.
What are your thoughts on this? I haven't heard or read much about this in the SEO community so im interested in getting a discussion started.
-
I was of the same opinion untill i started to think of the what the possibilities could be for EMD's etc. Might be a great oppurtunity that won't come by often.
-
Man i can't wait to start testing with these :).
I'm very curious to see how Google is going to handle this.
Looks like right now all we can do is sepculate on this.
Still fun though

Well, this was my question really... Does Google consider the TLD as part of a query match? i.e. Would pizza.vegas rank for the search term "pizza vegas" or just "pizza"? Does the .vegas hold any bearing/weight when Google looks to match the query? I would argue that pizza.vegas is not an EMD of the search term pizza vegas

Yes i believe so.
It should come down to your link profile (and language of content). If you have a site with French content and a lot of French links (links from sites hosted physically in France and are written in French and have a .fr extension) to a .org domain it will likely rank well in google.fr amongt .fr domains
-
But what about an exact match tld. Inter.com isnt 100% exact match hehe.
like pizza.vegas (*query pizza vegas)
real-estate.miami (*query real estate miami)
EDIT:
i put an extra N after 'a exact match' whilst the post was still uploading, causing this double post. -

Wow... I'm sure there will be little benefit if any for SEO with these. I personally can't stand these new domains!
-
I too wonder whether one of these new TLDs will make any difference to SEO at all. I've never really thought it could make much difference whether you are .com, .org, .net, etc so I doubt any of these new ones will make any difference either. There are factors with significantly higher importance.
The only benefit I can see from an SEO point of view is if you buy one of these to EMD, and the dotcom is already taken.
If you registered best.university, would that have any benefit on the search phrase "best university"? Unlikely... In the same way that if you sold 'the best intercoms' and registered bestinter.com, I doubt very much you'd rank for the search phrase "best intercom". The com isn't going to be associated with the root domain name.
I do however think that one of the new TLDs could be great for branding, marketing and being memorable to users... Just to come at it from a non-SEO point of view for a second.
I'd love to hear from someone on SEOmoz that has bought one of these new TLDs and can share their experience.
Cheers
Matt

I'm sure the domain brokers are hoping they dont!
Looks interesting and I totally agree with why they are doing it, so many TLD's have been eaten up by domain brokers, time to free up something new.
I personally think Google will be all over these.

I noticed this on the news and a few blogs/forums a while back but did not realize they were actually going ahead with it. Do you think these will rank well compared to .org/net/com?

Just want to know if others have seen simliar results with Squidoo's organic visits
I have some old squidoo pages and yes they haven't been tended to as well as my other content that is outperforming it, and yes that could be why. So rather than asking why it is underperforming, I just want to know if anyone else has heard that Squidoo was in line for a spanking, or if anyone else has seen similar organic reductions. That way I know if it's me getting the spanking, or if it's squidoo. Thanks a mil. Tyler

Not schema, but a new kind of search result?
I came across this search result in Google and I've been racking my brain out in trying to figure out how they did it. Do a search for Novus CD4 and you'll see a search result where they list additional products from the landing page. I used Google's Rich Snippet tool to analyse the page and find no microdata at play. Any ideas how this was achieved? Have you guys come across anything like this? I was thinking of integrating this with schema to display rating stars and prices on an ecommerce site S4aL5.png

Help settle an argument pls - are local results 'organic'?
Hi y'all. Hoping you can help give some definition here to organic results as I've inadvertantly started an argument in a forum when I was suggesting to some soul in need of advice that he needed to concentrate on the two types of SEO, those being Organic AND Local search results. So the argument started that Local search IS Organic, and results are classed as either Organic or Paid. Though to me, the term 'organic results' represents the search results derived from googles main website indexing algorithm, Not Paid, and not any of the Verticals (Local/News/Images/Video etc.) So would love to hear what others views are... if I'm totally wrong I'll go back and graciously accept my education 🙂

New business acquisition for digital agencies from SEO and CRO
I have a nice simple question to ask all you mozzers out there, specifically if you work for a web design/digital agency. Does your agency get any new business clients through your SEO and CRO efforts? I'm asking this to try and build up a qualitative data set. I am responsible for all SEO and CRO at our agency for all clients along with our own website. Having increased traffic by over 200% in the last 12 months, and obtaining page one of Google for all our targeted keywords, we are still without any new business or ROI. We are fortunate enough to get a lot of great clients via word of mouth, a great sales team and client retention, I'd really like to know what the bigger picture is here? If I get enough data back, I'll make it into my first Youmoz post and share all the data with everyone :¬) I've now added a survey so you answer anonymously: There are only 5 questions in all, your time is greatly appreciated. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/New_business_acquisitions_for_digital_agencies Any feedback gladly welcomed. Regards Sean
